  • Despite the herds of shopping trolleys, Warwick is a fascinating town and one I truly enjoyed visiting. And the night time explorations were something I'll never forget.

Those are wild free range trolleys. They tend to roam in small herds. Sadly, some of their kind end up trapped in watercourses where they eventually perish, much like mammoths in tarpits in days gone by. They can be stubborn and willful and frequently resist being penned up in the evenings. Whereas in many places, trolleys have been tamed and even domesticated, the wild trolleys of Warwick proudly roam free. Almost worth the trip just to see them in the wild.

I've only been to Warwick twice. Once when towing a trailer up from the NSW Central West to the Sunshine Coast, and the second time to pick up the trailer after it was repaired. A wheel fell off and rolled into a paddock of long grass, never again to be seen. Also, there's nothing wrong with a spot of train spotting :) Great video Rob.

I lived in Warwick for two years. As you drive into town from the north east you drop down a hill and you can see the town. I called it, "the hill of despair"!
A very very hard place for business with a population stuck in their ways. And a city council that does not want progress.
The majority of locals are either pensioners waiting to die or younger people with heavy drug use. The favourite past time for 12 year old girls is getting knocked up!

Hi Rob. We lived in Tenterfield many years ago and remember when Glengallon Homestead was a ruin. Money was raised to restore it but I never got to see the finished home. Nice to see how some of it has been restored to it's early beginnings. We never liked Warwick and were always glad to pass through!

The under pass was built after child from St Marys school was killed. There was another death decades before that. There use to be traffic lights for walking on the ally way. It was removed. About 30 years ago there was a huge social problem in Warwick, first up go back to beginning of centry the federal police was created at Warwick train station . In the early 90's a man was bashed to death in the town hall allyway, then another was bashed down near the pub across from lesie park, years ago on a weekend the town was packed. Now it's dead no work. Chamber of commerce stops groth. That's why they put camera up on every street and it sorted the people problem. I grew up in Warwick and it's totally changed. There was always a problem of nothing to do. I used to clean those motel rooms too. ;) should be careful walking around the ally's of Warwick by self at night. They do have a drug and bikie problem.

I'm working back through your videos and enjoying your perspective on the places you visit. Regarding your observation that country towns need diversity in their dining options and should stay open after dark, what I found years ago is that they tend to be geared for travelers, not the locals, unless they are a place with a foodie reputation like Kingaroy (!) or Stanthorpe. Then there are more interesting dining options on weekends, but everything still centers on the pub or RSL during the week. Motels would fill with white Falcons during the evenings (OK it was a while back now) and they would be gone again at the crack of dawn. It tends to be invisible to the locals, but that's how it was. A dining rule from those days, never order seafood more than 100km from the coast. It will be a disappointment at best and may have adverse effects at worst.
Keep up the flaneuring and thanks for sharing. Happy trails.

Thank you for doing a walkabout of Warwick. I grew up in Killarney, 30klm south-east of Warwick until I was nine, when my family moved to Brisbane. I had a wonderful childhood in Killarney and travelled to Warwick often for shopping, doctors and school sports. I returned to Warwick to visit my cousin who now lives in Sweden. While watching your footage, I realised that he and I are not built for that quiet lifestyle. Thank you again😊

  • @ConnorsComedyClipsOffical

First time I’ve ever seen someone on CZcams travel my home town love your work. The under pass was because a kid got run over trying to cross the road and there’s a lot of kids who walk from assumption to st Mary’s church so they made this to make it easier to get across the road. Yes people in the country do just want to go to a pub we aren’t like people from the city. And I’d be keeping those religious views to yourself if I was you

Please do an historic walk in Toowoomba. The Swamp deserves more than just Harlaxton House well then, maybe ,not.

As a denizen of 4 QLD country towns (Yarraman, Nanango, Stranthorpe, Murgon) I call tell you that the locals are more then happy with the various pubs offering meals & the RSL. Cafes etc do start up but quickly go out of business if they think they can attract customers once the sun has gone down. We like the quiet and we like to spend the nights at home.

  • @fortunateson7852

Warwick is an interesting place. People that live around there (like Stanthorpe) go to the movies there. But yeah late at night (and a cold winters night at that) there is going to be nothing going on. People are at home with the fire going.
But Warwick has a lot of old buildings that are quite grand. There must have been some money there in the early days.
Since Covid these places are even quieter than usual. Also country towns are pretty dead on the weekends. For most people, it’s their days off.

You may find that most of those trolleys were left at bus stops. The lovely Warwick people haven't learned that there are
no trolley buses in their quaint Darling Downs city. But it is a lovely, although sleepy Queensland country location.

What a weird underpass. Then again, I've encuntered an even weirder one in the town of Nowa Nowa. Absolutely tiny town of less than 200 people, yet an underpass... Minor detail, underneath the prices highway which might explain it
Also no lift, however it was a flat approach on the path. So probably a lot cheaper to install

    • @Rockstar-vs1nb
      @Rockstar-vs1nb Před 4 měsíci

it has a lift on both sides. The church he passes walking towards it was part of the Primary school and the other part of the school is across the highway. the council built it so the kids didn't have to walk across the highway to attend church.

Warwick is the perfectly sized town, if something is available it's 10 minutes, if not then there is always Toowoomba or the internet. It gets busy during the day and there are plenty of sports grounds including a popular car race track, religion is well catered for, let's put it that way. The climate is great, much better than stuffy Brisbane. It's a conservative place but in a good way.

Like your videos; thanks for posting them. There is a Baptist Church in Toowoomba that has been putting up similar signs for years which whilst obviously are intended to advance a Christian theme, are phrased as a comical play on modern events. I suspect your local Warwick Minister may have been doing something similar? Would probably have been an idea to speak to them before publishing such a derogatory opinion.
