- Counter Strike 2 is finally here, proving that Valve actually makes video games. However, Counter Strike 2 had quite the messy launch, with missing content, bugs, and the viral Michael Jackson lean. Counter Strike even has some dancing.
Is Counter Strike 2 a worthy sequel? Should CSGO have gotten replaced? Let's find out if Counter Strike 2 is good.

Counter-Strike 2 is a 2023 multiplayer tactical first-person shooter game developed and published by Valve. It is the fifth main installment of the Counter-Strike series. - Hry
My biggest issue is the removing of the other default character models.
(Which isn't that big but y'know its a downgrade from CS:GO)
yes i forgot to mention that! definitely a gripe of mine
Although its not my biggest issues but Not having map dedicated models in each map is really a downgrade. One of reason CSGO was superior than 1.6 and CSS was because of that feature. Now in CS2 we are back too randomized model root of 1.6.
@@m.n.s.s2825 it is not randomized tho, is just phoenix and sas at the moment, all of them use just one variant, in cs:go each faction used to have A LOT of variants in between the models, now they just use one variant, not counting the paid operators, of course
@@Noire_. its randomized when you use agents, before agents in csgo it was realistic and meaningful.
Valve I want to play as the IDF again :)
Biggest real issue is the netplay/hitboxes when moving. Peekers advantage is so powerful that if you watch recent pro play that's all they do, nobody holds angles. Shooting behind or ahead of someone as they move will get you hits often. They really need this fixed. Outside of that, I just have minor gripes with content parity with CSGO, which it will get there eventually. Overall though I'm loving everything about it.
Yep whole friendgroup including me quit cs cause of this thanks for replacing csgo with cs2 :) Welp valorant it is.
yes! i mentioned it briefly, but should’ve emphasized it more
the peekers advantage is insane. holding a corner puts you at such a disadvantage it’s nuts
That can't even be fixed so long as subtick exists.
@@l.m.a.9861 Its not sub-tick. It happens on LAN. The root cause is not identified yet. Many think its a huge interpolation value. WE cant see though because valve disabled the commands to do so.
@@thepunisherxxx6804 I mean, whatever it is, it needs to be fixed fast, as the game is just terrible right now.
I really hope cs2 has more custom maps like css and cs1.6 I loved that joining random maps with full servers and only like 20% of the players knew the map layout
That was the best way to play. I miss all the crazy maps on CS:S 😅. I made a few back in the day myself they weren't great but they were fun.
The view model flip is probably because of how shooting through smokes works. The smoke doesn't get cleared where your bullets go (from your eyes), but in front of the barrel, so flipping viewmodels would also need to flip this, meaning there is potential jank in spamming a bind to flip the viewmodels to during a spray to clear more smoke.
oh that’s actually really interesting, i didn’t know that! i appreciate the explanation brotha 🤝
Bro wtf are you yapping. What thefack has yhe barrel of a moving gun has to do with smoke? Do you imply that moving the gun also moves the smoke holes?
@@Maximilian-SchmidtDoesn’t TF2 already do this?
@@dadude001 TF2 limits viewmodel flipping when you're not currently alive in any sort of way (i.e. spectator) because of something like that.
Just to clarify, when I say I think Counter Strike 2 deserves to be called a sequel, I meant "mechanically," since the core formula has been refined and had some changes made. Content wise? They absolutely dropped the ball. Really hoping they get the rest of the content in ASAP. I'm watching you, Gabe.
***EDIT***
I actually didn’t know pinging was added to CSGO, and I think in my sub-tick example, there might’ve been a small head behind the box lol. Sub-tick still sucks though
I didn’t mention cheaters because I felt the video was already too long, but yeah they are a problem for sure
Thank you guys for pointing out any errors! Helps me be a better creator :)
Hope you all enjoy the video!
I would have loved for it to just be called "Counter Strike" as a uniforming title/banner for all future content and updates to be under, but I guess that touches into CS 1.6 a little much and Valve REALLY loves having sequels...
hey kelski you should check out fortune's run
Well, CS:GO could have been CS 2 after CS 1.6. The original creator of CS, Minh Le, started working on a CS sequel that included features like vehicle gameplay, and other shit that modern games have (in 2007 btw). However, Valve canceled this project in 2009 (later the elements were copied by some third party company to make the game "Tactical Intervention"). Instead, they released CS: Source, which led to a division in the CS community. Additionally, Valve hired a studio to create a CS: Source port for consoles, CSGO.
However, halfway through CS:GO's development, Valve recognized the opportunity to unify both the 1.6 and Source player bases and decided to develop CS:GO themselves. If Valve had initiated the CS:GO project in-house from the beginning without involving the external studio, it's likely they would have named it CS 2. Now with CSGO moving to Source 2 they prolly thot this was the perfect oppurtunity. to rename Cs back to Cs2.
TL;DR: CSGO was Cs2 all along
Not really, mechanically it plays practically the same, changing a few things like the length of matches and adding loadouts doesn't redefine the core mechanics, the gunplay, movement, team play and core functionality of gamemodes are exactly the same as CSGO. Mechanically it's just CSGO with some tweaks. And most of the content missing which for some reason isn't the first thing people bring up about cs2.
I don't like that you can't see how much dmg you did in the console anymore after you died and not only at the end of the round like face it.
I still miss some commands like netgraph 1.
Grieving bann is out of hand for a solo player.
imagine TF2 on source 2 lol
someones doing it in S&Box
Mmmmhhhhhhh
Ive seen you some where?
Error texture left and right ...
god i would LOVE a source 2 TF2
7:45 I actually rather liked the buy wheel. If you configured the settings to close the menu after each purchase, you could buy an entire loadout in 1-2 seconds purely via muscle memory of small mouse movements and clicks.
You can still do that
@@scrim4665 The point is the buy wheel works fine. I've not looked if it is, but using old UI should be an option. CS is the type of game where you build hundreds if not thousands of hours of muscle memory. It would be nice if they granted us to use the UI we want.
anybody not using number keys to buy is just doing it wrong. Its been the fastest standard since at least 1.6
@@MrZiarD yeah but i DON'T SEE THE FUCKING NUMBERS HENCE I DON'T

I think CS2 is less demanding on hardware for 2023 standards than CS GO was in 2012. The new engine also scales better, though they need to address some stutter issues.
However when CS GO came out it did not replace CS 1.6 or CS Source. Hence the complaints.
But Cs2 aint new game its just an update to new engine
Lol, here's hopes that it will be able to utilize more than 30% of my CPU and GPU without giving me frame drops all the way from 200 to 70. I've sent an email to the troubleshooting team.
@@self-proclaimedanimator That's what every new cs game is...
@@self-proclaimedanimator 7:04 I think it was explained here that CS2 was mostly rebuilt rather than CSGO being ported to source 2. Backend-wise, it's definitely a new game, but the gameplay was made to feel familiar to its predecessor.
Hi bro, in regards to the graphics I'd like to give my unit as an example - Nvidia GT 730 (2GB VRAM), 16GB RAM and an i3-7100.. Yes this isn't cutting edge but going from being able to play CSGO on high to not being able to get past 13fps at the lowest setting with severely reduced resolution in CS2 is simply bs.
Valve has excluded tens of thousands of people with these requirements and we're mostly better off playing Valorant impeccably at the highest settings than bearing with this shit for the sake of hyperrealistic water and glass physics.

@@lxdixd no clue what ur talking about
A little detail: pings already existed in CS:GO before the release of Counter-Strike 2:) But anyways, great video as usual, thanks Kelski!
Personally, I'm really troubled by the state that Counter-Strike 2 launched in. Valve is supposed to be one of the few AAA developers that you can rely on to launch a game feature complete and with barely any bugs or technical issues to speak of. I really hope they learn from this and do better next time.
i think them setting hard date of Summer 2023 screwed them. the fact that it came out at the last possible moment in Summer shows that it was rushed
@@kel_ski Probably. I was having a chat with a friend about this and he said that developers should just overestimate release days so they have a lot more time and flexibility.
The fact that they are constantly patching it also shows how rushed it was.
Bruh what. It was perfect when it launched to me.
I aint a massive CS player but I didnt really see much problems from it.
Every time I played csgo it always felt way off and goofy as hell. Cs2 feels much better. So maybe they made particular changes to bring vets and new players closer to the same level so they can build there skills together.
when you're moving with the awp its inaccurate, represented by a blurred scope. 3:01
Nice
When he did the little "me from the future" bit and said I was bald I DEADASS ONG thought it was gonna be a Keeps sponsor 😭
LMAOOO
yeah no sponsor for this one haha
My biggest gripe with CS2 is that I feel like I am CONSTANTLY getting running head shoted. Not that I am running, they are. Maybe they are counter strafing and there is some lag so I don't see it, or maybe the game is different and moving while shooting somehow makes your targets head a bullet magnet. I'm not sure, but it feels horrible.
9:20 that was already a thing you just needed to check the console, which was great cuz you could see the dmg you did the second you died and could tell your team, now it doesnt show in the console for me so i have to guess. and the one that show in CS2 only shows when the round is over.
maybe im missing a setting that fixes these though
Just want to add what i think is importent, where the hell is cache and train? We need to be able to turn of wepond bobbing / sway.
Righthand left hand and clear decals. Workshop maps? Server browser, surf,kz aimmaps?
Cant save vods? Need 100 wins to get a comp rank on every map?
what a fun and cohesive video. i completely agree on how crazy the smoke grenades changes are and why that is monumental for a shooting game. I also am scared to play comp with this frame sub tick problem. Hopefully valve fixes this soon because this game is so sick.
Subbed bc of this vid. I really appreciate how you look at these issues from different perspectives and have a very level headed take on these problems.

My issue is that there is no new content, like no operation, even old gamemodes and maps are gone
i might be wrong, but isn't there a guy standing behind the box at 17:35 ? he was most likely holding the angle
you know, i think you may be right haha. it was hard to tell during editing
subtick servers still suck though
Yes, he clearly died to the guy behind box. he's even shown on the minimap. idk how he missed this.
Yeah, i paused it at 17:37 and i used the frame by frame shortcut 1080p and you can barely see a dudes head behind the box.
@@kel_skiskill issue
@@kel_ski Also at 3:01 you have to stand still to actually connect the shot.
the blurred scope is the indication
anyhow Subtick still suck
Yeah, I don't think the subtick system is the issue.
I am guessing that they've redone the latency compensation - this is where the server tries to predict where the characters were on your screen at the time the attack command was sent. This is HARD to do, and CS:GO (afaik) just said hell with it and let the clients say what was visible (the client bundles the attack command with each other characters' timecode the client was seeing, since you see others' movements as they WERE), which made it really easy to make backtrack cheats.
I don’t see why not make it all client side, what would be the downside other than getting one tapped as you peek bc ur ping is high
@@williamstone8782 A cheater would modify their client to "select" which frame of your movement history is most favorable for having a headshot.
This esentially makes your head hitbox a huge trailing cascade of boxes to the cheater, where clicking on any of them results in a headshot. They'd pick the frame where your head is over their crosshair and thus not need to time the shot.
@@williamstone8782client side is untrustworthy
This could explain why people with lower than 10 ping or extremely high ping have a clear advantage in aggressive peaking. Whereas players with generally average ping are in the realm of inconsistency.
I agree, and I think they should let owners of custom servers adjust the latency compensation as a server setting. Too high latency compensation will ruin the competitive nature of the game. But this is just thoughts, I do not know if this actually is the case. If it is tho, then the game will play perfectly on LAN.
I JUST uploaded my review on CS2 and now I get this in my recommended lmao, nice vid man!
Your point on accessibility is very true for me. I use an almost decade old Mac and I can play CSGO just fine. I know it probably won’t survive CS2 but it’s a shame I can’t even attempt to play it.
The hood is having a feast with this one, thanks kelski

Great video and really appreciate the cute doggo pic at rhe end.
When you brought up the Joel clip…you earned my sub😂
About replacing the game, it is also about maintenance cost. Where I think Valve has gone right is that the development costs seems more sustainable for the player base than e.g. what Blizzard has tried to do. Competitive games are _very_ different from big selling exciting games, so keeping people working on the game is integral to its future for all the players.
As a software engineer i must speak to the defence of CS:GO ON the source engine. The only reason people got low GPU utilization is because it was so well optimized that your CPU became the bottleneck because it could keep up with the 500+ fps modern GPU's could render at 1440p.
Amazing editing absolutely love it
Great content. Subbed!
the movement and shooting mechanics haven't changed. The subtick system and netcode has and it's killing the game, making it feel more sluggish and increasing the amount of peekers advantage.
peekers advantage is such a massive issue man… hope they fix it asap
@@kel_ski It's been a problem for god knows how long, they don't care, they just want to make their rigged casino look prettier
now im not 100% sure but movement has changed slighty (could be due to subtick/netcode like you mentioned) but airstrafes feel heavier like it doesn't strafe as much as it did before
It made the game feel so unresponsive, especially when it comes to spraying. My headshot percentage went up by like 20% after cs2 dropped, because spraying literally doesn't hit anything anymore.
That follow reticle thing helped me immensely, you're spot on there. I could never understand why I couldn't hit crap in counter-strike until now, when I have no problem in other games (including ones with recoil).
Go play a game against bots. it really highlights how bad it is, you'll hit all your shots
Yeah man i was actually able to shoot ppl with that thing enabled
man in CSGO i will tap spray the Ak in the general direction of an enemy in hopes even one bullet connects but it instead head shots some random dude 50 meters away
worst thing CSGO didnt had bullet tracers so good luck figuring out where your boolets goin
Cs2 fix all of this and now Noob can me can actually play the game
i’m glad it the feature is actually helping to bring in new people! CS gunplay can be incredibly rewarding and satisfying once you learn the mechanics
good luck with your future matches dude
@@kel_skibefore this feature I hated CS shooting. CS is almost as old as Quake but while in Quake you see your crosshair, you know where will be the rail or shaft. In CS you had to shoot into some weird invisible crosshair which only sometimes align with actual one and I hated it. You can have very jumpy and fierce recoil but I want to see where my bullet will go, one of the reasons why I like Rainbow Six Siege shooting. Now with this feature in CS2 (which apparently was a thing in GO but as console command and only with sv_cheats) I can now kill people without spending hours of playtime shooting blank wall in lobby with every gun just to have vague understanding of pattern of them. Negev laser beam is goat with this feature btw. Some people can call it "casualizing" but it's just a norm to understand where you gun will shoot

the 2 in CS2 just means it's on source 2. CS2 is not a sequel, it is literally CSGO on Source 2. Hence why they replaced CSGO.

The sub-tick system causes significant issues for me as it causes enemies to rubberband behind walls and gives me headshots through walls just because my ping is 40-60ms.
on the beta I was locked at 40 ping the entire time and experienced some issues...after they let me limit it to 5-10 it's so much better
Well, I have a Ping around 10-20 and I srsly can't play against 50-100 Ping players. They see me before I see them, if I see them at all while they peek and I always die behind cover, because on their screen I'm still in the open.
That and other issues I have rn with CS2 ended in me giving up the game for now. Maybe in 2 years I will try it again. Or of they remove the sub-tick.
Which music video are the shots at 9:26 from? Looks dope.
in that 17:35 Clip, you literally died from the guy sitting default on site holding library, not the guy throwing a smoke. Also, 64 tick servers are objectively worse than the new sub tick system & you'd know exactly why that is after spending years in 128tick servers like ESEA or Faceit, or even offline workshop maps/community servers. 64 tick (worst) - sub tick - 128tick, however sub tick on LAN is hands down the best tick rate implementation there really has ever been. Other than that, great vid
Im sorry but i couldnt disagree more with your view on subtick. It’s just not correct even. Subtick is not the issue, the netcode isnt either. It’s the fact that the gun animations are not ALSO subtick, and that now the game favors people with lower ping increasing peakers advantage. Awps are significantly more powerful, you have to actually be able to counterstrafe, and recoil is a bit harder because of this. Whatever it may be atleast it’s not the completely unplayable crap csgo was running with while i wait 3000 years for my shot to be registered when a tick happened.
This. Like even in the first clip he shows it's clear that the awp crosshair is blurry so it missed due to inaccuracy
I really appreciate videos like this that a content creator put a ton of extra work into instead of just showing random gameplay and ramble over it 😄

Yo, I was not expecting to hear that Ralph Castelli beat at 10:13. That song fucks
I haven't had a lot of hitbox or network issues, however, the removed content is by far the worst thing about CS2 currently. The various alternate gamemodes not being available currently sucks, but I hope that they make a return, especially my favourite, Flying Scoutsman.
Biggest problem - lack of content. Not only they released "sequel" with less content then prequel, they also removed that prequel from your library.
@@jedanPirke yup, it was necessary tho to not divide the playerbase. Still feels like a kick in between the legs, just straight up removing a game weve known for 10 years.
yeah playing at 5 ping I don't really have any issues, in fact I find I can hit headshots easier while holding angs and flicking...but yeah they should of had csgo still here for awhile until cs2 gets polished
Finally i found the first person actually enjoying flying scoutsman
As a player who almost exclusively uses the Nova I've been fucked over by the network and hitbox issues a lot since the CS2 launch. I almost exclusively go for headshots because everything else just isnt viable and at the moment even that isnt because I can never be sure that the game actually registers the hits I line up on my end of the game.
7:58 you could always ping, this is not new.
9:24 you could also always do this, you just had to open the console
still cant get over map based factions being gone, they were all so cool and unique with their voice lines

It's good and refreshing to see you've done your research when it comes to CSGO's history

Ive played csgo on and off and the gameplay just never really did it for me (mostly because im really bad and didnt put enough time or effort into learning) but im glad i watched this since it made me realize the game doesnt just suck. Ive only played cs2 with my friend who was a super high rank and we only did competitive, the amount of times i got killed without even having a chance to defend myself was so infuriating, mostly due to the tickrate nonsense and just my lack of knowledge of the game. I feel like if i played more casual i mightve had more fun and kelski made me realize maybe i should give it another shot, thanks for the vid man

i have been wondering this for a bit, what are the bumps under your pfp mask? Hair? Tumers?
Those bugs aren't because of the server framerate (aka server ticks) nor sub-updates. It's problems with prediction and backwards reconciliation. These problems may be related to the updated netcode to introduce the sub-ticks (although afaik quake2 already did that. I asumed CS-go also did) but not because of the sub-ticks themselves.

Amazing content. I made it the end to see doggo. ‘‘Twas a good day
The problem with the requirements is that they don't take into account if you want to play the game with "Competitive" FPS. I think they only tested for 60fps, which is not enough for a game like CS. I for example have an old but respectable 5 year old PC, way above the requirements, and it's hard to reach 144fps on some maps, borderline impossible if there are smokes, mollies, and multiple enemies on the screen. There also seems to be a giant dip of 10-20 FPS when you're shooting/spraying. Taking this into account, I estimate that atleast 30% of the player base in this boat.
CSGO was supposedly unable to use multithreading properly, so I was hoping source 2 would take better advantage of my CPU, even if I had to turn down the fancy visuals. Now it seems I'm CPU bottlenecked, down to 90fps at times, with 50% usage. FSR does literally nothing but destroy visual clarity for no FPS benefit. Something just isn't adding up.
i think the game has the systems in place to utilize a PC better, but i still don’t think it’s optimized well yet
also, i’ve been playing on a 60HZ monitor since 2014 💀 i should probably upgrade
if ur cpu bottlenecked turning down graphics aspects like FSR wont help your fps its ur cpu thats the issue.
60fps is more than fine for even competitive. Most pros could not even accurately guess the difference in fps above 100.
@@kel_ski I really do hope it's just an optimization issue. I'll probably upgrade down the line anyway, just kinda sucks I have no game to back to until then. Initially i thought I needed a beefier GPU, but now I have no clue what to do...I'll wait and see I guess.
144hz is a world of difference from 60. Definitely recommend it. You will literally not be able to back, no exaggeration. I genuinely feel awful gaming on 60hz nowadays.

you forgot to talk about the really the really weird premiere/mm/ranking system. After playing premiere for a while, i found myself in 5k elo (really bad ik), but i also feel that that there are a lot of ppl with different skill levels in the same rank? Like it's almost condensed with really good players and really bad players together in the same rank. I feel this because my matches are either sweaty af or easy af. Not sure if this is a problem that will go away with time when everyone settles in their respective ranks, but its been bothering me alot. Also having to win like atleast 70% of the matches to gain enough elo to rank up is bs.
Do CS go cosmetics you’d maintain in cs2? Or it’s like a fresh start and you “lost” those skins?
I’m so proud of you man, you gonna hit the 100k
thank you dude 🤝 we getting there!
At last lord kelski has returned with his wisodom content, keep it up brother : )
Something I really dont understand is that they removed the feature where someone disconnects during warmup the game ends... Nope now it just starts as 4v5.... And why didnt they add a ringer system like in esea or SOMETHING to help with disconnecting and lagging players or like in valorant where you can surrender after pistol if people disconnect and no one loses or wins mmr (remake)
song name at 10:12 ? haven't heard it in years and cant think of the name
Ralph Castelli morning sex
Great vid but you know that pinging was already a feature in CS right ?
The sub tick is a real pain I have pt blank shotgun shots not hitting the chest while my enemy hits me 1 for 103 it makes no sense
fun possible fact, I have heard that Valve has actually stated that they will not add the ability to swap viewmodel sides
17:35 Wasnt there just another guy behind the box on site that you didnt notice?
I hate i cant get rid of the headshot sound when its me getting shot
it took me 20 seconds to realize you put subway surfers on the tick rate explanation
im light headed from laughing so hard, bravo that is a sub for just how perfect that was
this was a very fair video, props to u.
the "what you see is what you get" thing comes apart when you realize someone with a better connection will have faster sub tick updates, and since their mouse movements are on a different sub tick than the rest of them, they literally have better aim just for the quality of their connection, even if just by a few ms. it only takes a second to consider the magnitude of issues that comes with that. i wouldnt be surprised if they never considered that since they all probably played on the same server as each other during development, negating that issue. valve, pls fix. they should have just added 128 tick and called it a day, and im sure it would be a very hard thing for them to drop sub tick and just do that instead, as they have already flaunted it as a better system than regular tick servers. it may work on lan, but once u factor in variables in internet connections and different systems, it begins to fall apart.
Some of these features that you mentioned we have now we did have back then too.
