  • At the end of January 2024, I embarked on a journey to Cambodia, opting for the overland route through the Ban Klong Luk - Poipet border crossing. While this route may have been more challenging than flying, it offered far more experiences and ultimately proved to be very affordable.
My journey began with a train ride from Bangkok, boarding train number 275 at 5:55 in the morning. The ticket price to the border was 49 THB, making the train a very cost-effective option. Arrival at the border was around 11:00 in the morning. Food and drinks were available for purchase on the train, so there was no need to carry too many supplies.
Subsequently, I had to pass through immigration, which was a very straightforward process. I had my e-visa ready, and everything went smoothly. However, I advise caution when buying visas from unknown individuals on the street, although I have no personal experience with this. On the Cambodian side, visas can be obtained on arrival for 30 USD, which is a cheaper alternative to the 36 USD e-visa, but additional fees may be requested, such as for expedited processing. For peace of mind, I arranged my e-visa a month in advance.
In Cambodia, you will immediately be approached by people offering various services. SIM card prices are higher here; I recommend waiting to purchase one until you reach a city, where prices are usually lower. I managed to get a data package for 30 days for 7.25 USD, which I couldn't find at the border. They kept offering me a package for only 7 days for 5 USD. Likewise, I negotiated a price for a ride to Battambang with a local driver for 40 THB.
I arrived in Battambang before 3:00 PM and concluded this leg of the journey. Overall, it was very easy, and there is no need to worry. If you have any further questions about my crossing from Thailand to Cambodia, feel free to leave a comment under the video.
