    I do agree gaming chairs are a bad purcharse (most of them). However, my best investment has been a good ergonomic chair that is around the same price as a gaming chair. I had awful low back problems and sitting 10+hours on a bad chair made my life so miserable I had to spend days standing just to stop feeling pain. But you don't need an expensive one just make sure to buy one with good reviews. For example, the Ikea Markus chair is pretty cheap and it has great ergonomics so I'd recommend that one for gamers that sit for too long. And make sure to stretch every hour!

      I would say the Ikea Markus chair is utterly trash tbh and does not have good ergonomics(Youll think it does when u try it, first time, and comfy but its not in the longer run) Dont get that I've had one for over 3+ years till I really grown tierd off it and got a lower bad back from it. Wont be comfy in longer sessions, trust me. (ps: for a better ergonomic chair would be a real office chair) not from Ikea budget section.

    My favorite upgrade I've done was my chair, I didn't splurge on an "epic gaming chair" and opted for one that would be comfortable for long sessions of sitting down. What occupation has you sitting for long hours? Office jobs, so I got myself a really comfy office chair that has a mesh back and seat for breathing and keeping me cool. Most gaming chairs have bucket seats that restrict movement which can get very uncomfortable and the leather material doesn't breathe very well.
    My next investment will definitely be lighting, and I've always strived to enhance the viewers' experience over my own (I am currently still gaming on a 42" 1080i Toshiba TV circa 2007 with my 2nd 'monitor' being a cheap 32" Dynex TV). I do want to replace those soon, but mainly so I can rearrange my setup so that everything looks better for the viewers and to make it much easier for me to be able to interact.
    Rather than hiring someone to work on my graphics I want to get better at making my own, so while everything will seem a little less professional (hopefully just until I improve) it will have a unique look to me and my preferences. Maybe even get good enough to make it another avenue for income on the side.

    Honestly, even two years later, this was very helpful. Just started not too long ago, and I think that last piece of advice was really helpful. I’ve been using a wooden stool (I refer to it as a gaming stool personally) and it’s actually really comfortable considering that if I were using a standard office chair, it would be way too short and my arms would be really uncomfortable reaching for my keyboard and mouse. Don’t get me wrong, it would be a blessing for a new chair/desk. But I think at this point, it would be a much better investment to get a good editing program or even some graphic design from fiverr or something like that. Your videos are a blessing, and I’ve been binging just to gain some knowledge.

    "Having some regrets keeps you from making some of the same mistakes in the future." I started watching this channel really hoping that I had found a streamer that could give good advice on streaming and wasn't another Twitch/CZcams Chad that only knew how to be an internet personality and not how to be a decent and wise person. When I heard this sentence I knew that you were exactly what I was looking for: someone who knew how to be entertaining, knew how to make decisions while keeping the future in mind, and was just a decent person. Thanks for all the good advice man, I hope that I can put it to use and be as successful as possible. Keep up the good work.

    What settings do you use in OBS? I keep getting crappy rendered videos. I'm using a Sony A6400 with kit lens 16-55mm, I had to turn off autofocus, because it keeps autofocusing and that's very distracting, but if I move a lot, it obviously loses focus with manual focus.

      Logitech webcam + cheap lighting should do the trick
      The placement of the lighting is what throws a lot of people off I think, because they're just lighting their entire room without strategically directing the light. I don't know how comfortable I'd feel diffusing the cheap clamp light he showed, those things can get pretty hot... Maybe with the right bulbs though.

      Spent a full year working on content and the community. No web cam. I think there is a large gap that Harris misses here for new streamers and was highly disappointed with one of the first couple items about thumbnails. I’d go Audio and Community involvement as priorities and then as you grow in your community you add things that as Harris says improves your viewers experience. But unless you start on CZcams I would ditch the thumbnail thing for a long time.

    • @R3DST1CK

      FluffyWolf2 I am trying to start over from scratch. I started a CZcams channel in 2012 and started streaming in 2013 and I never really gained any traction. I recently decided to start over. Take at look at myself in the mirror and try to see where I went wrong. I honestly have no idea how to use social media to put myself out there so that’s really the first thing I have to figure out.

    • @FluffyWolf2
      @FluffyWolf2 Před 5 lety

      @@R3DST1CK Social media is simply a platform the engage in your captive audience. What you determine if what "Niche" you fill. Harris has mentioned that but failed to in this video. I think making a 'mantra' if you will to your stream that fulfills you as a person, and fulfills the niche you wish to capture will in time guide you to the social media spectrum you need to tackle. Wishing to do Fitness? Instagram with visuals, small tidbits, and progression photos. Game? Perhaps there is an online community you can aid in contributing to whether it is fan art, analysis, teaching/becoming better etc. Art? DeviantArt is an old one so find the new one, or revisit the old, etc etc. The niche defines the social platform for which you tackle, and from there you see if it benefits you or not :)

    I have to disagree with not buying the gaming chair. Out of everything I've purchased it was the most important thing, someone in my chat even named themselves TheLemonsGamingChair.
    I stream for long hours at a time as I play competitively, stuff like ranked and high kill games so I would often feel immense pain in my back using the 80$ chair from "IKEA" (in South Africa we have Makro and Game). After getting the gaming chair my back pain has been significantly reduced by around 90% of what it used to be.
    I was in so much pain before and I would show it on stream but now I feel so much better.

    I have a cooking stream, and my main audio gripe is my 2 fridges kick on while I'm speaking, and they're loud. Since I have to move around the kitchen while I cook, is my best option a lav mic? Also, is there anything I can do for noise dampening in a kitchen environment? I was thinking of putting sound-absorbing foam in some open frames so I can move them around, but I don't know if that will make enough difference considering it's a large kitchen in an open floor plan with tile floors. Storage is also a problem when my hypothetical foam frames wouldn't be in use. Any ideas?
