- The best team in the world, FC Barcelona, was playing Chelsea in the second leg of the 2012 Champions League semi-finals. One of these teams will move on to the finals, the other will go home.
One moment is about to seal the fate of this match, and even more importantly, redefine the career of one player who has suffered through the highest highs and lowest lows that football has to offer. This football match is about to become a theater for one man, as we bear witness to the redemption of Fernando Torres.

Don’t forget Torres won the corner that drogba scored from he was definitely underrated at Chelsea not to mention the next season he scored 23 goals in all comps and had a few number of assists and was the starter helping us win the Europa league
And it was the first corner earned by Chelsea
he did that for spain a lot too, he constantly drew defenders away leaving Villa free to score.
In my memory, Torres was an amazing player at Chelsea. He had great link ups, was hardworking in the defensive phase and was only unsuccessful at scoring. He did pretty much everything else tbh
I grew up idolizing this man. When I was little, I would style my hair like him and idolize the entire spanish football team as a result. I recently found the old Torres 2010 WC jersey I wore during those days, and it inspired me to buy a signed one for my room, as it reminds me why I fell in love with the beautiful game.
Torres at Liverpool made me a football fan as a kid
so real
Same. Didn’t know how but I was obsessed with him
Trust me, Chelsea NEEDED that goal!
They didn't. Without that goal they were still going through
@dendenn7383 talk sense to these strange guys bro 😤
Were you lads watching live? I remember it, they definitely needed it. As a neutral the tension was through the roof, no one believed they were safe until that goal went in. That barca team was dangerous. 😭
@@ahmaddeeni tension is irrelevant. Fact is Chelsea were going through without that goal and there’s no guarantee that barca were going to score
@@dendenn7383 thanks for the technical analysis, hindsight merchant.
honestly that one goal literally turned torres from a £50m flop to a cult hero for chelsea fans
As a 90's kid and LFC fan, Torres was probably my favourite football player in my late teens. There was nothing new in this video for me, but it made me relive it again. Well structured and great storytelling. Good job Matt. For being as young as you are, and with the disability of being American (I assume), you exhibit substantial football knowledge.
damn.. being American is a disability nowadays
Finally someone who makes videos like this that doesn't have an annoying voice, great vid.
I know this channel deserves more subs
No no no. Chelsea NEEDED that goal. Remember this Barcelona team was THE greatest team ever. And they were playing like lions against Chelsea. Chances were that it could have gone Barcelona's way (another goal instead of a tie) but Torres's goal sealed the deal.
disagree, 2009 barca and 2017 madrid were better
🧢
It was stoppage time so I doubt it
@@Nikzmat 2009 barca needed to cheat to win in semis against a certain chelsea side.......Just Saying......
@@BilKulLABarcelona got robbed in the 1st leg
If the game just ended 2-2 with Chelsea going thru with away goals, it wouldn’t have felt like as good of a revenge, Barca would’ve still held onto hope until the game ended. That goal crushed Barca’s hopes, and that’s why it was so important and memorable
🧢. Overhyped over inflated goal that serves only one purpose. Justifying such a terrible transfer
@@MBison-vm6gq not justifying the transfer, I’m just explaining why the goal was important even tho we didn’t need it
This is exactly everything that goal stood for. Whether they choose to believe it or not, this match was fueled with the memories of '09, with that in mind, it meant a lot to see the wrong of '09 be finally right to most of the footballing world.
Really enjoyed this. Very well made video with a well researched backstory and expertly edited flashbacks as his chance against Barca came up. The only significant thing you missed is the delicious irony of how Torres got into that advanced scoring position was by recklessly losing ball via a poor dribble out….
love this, but (and myb ive been msiinformed) i was surprised u didnt mention that he went and played at the world cup ignoring the advice of his doctors, making his alr bad injury worse, basically sacrificing his career for the world cup trophy. he ended up getting redemption but yea important detail
You are right! I didn't highlight it as much in the video other than a quick mention, but it seems very likely that rushing back from injury to play in the 2010 World Cup made things a lot worse and led to the run of bad form post-2010 World Cup.
That move on the Manchester keeper where Fenando missed the target, was so damn smooth though, if he did finish, it would have been one of the prettiest breakaway goals of all time.
Brilliant vid. Torres was my first favourite player when I was like 10. Good memories.
This is the match i remember has being the 1st football game to give me goosebumbs. Im french and born in 2001. I lived the 2006 world cup final where we loosed to Italia. I remember hardly the game but the outcome made me cry myself to sleep in that summer night of 2006. But this game. I remember every detail. The amount of pressure Barcelona put on Chelsea the final goal of Torres. The way he celebrated over Valdes. This feels so far away now. 2010s football will be missed for sure. I feel like i dont enjoy the game has much i used to. It might only be me.
Whatever u said, he is not flop, he is a hero for Chelsea. Nice video btw
Torres earned his redemption and you just earned a subscriber
As a barca fan this match pissed me off but fair enough gg to Chelsea
CAPTAIN TSUBASA MENTIONED YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Only 600 subs? You deserve at least a million.
Great video! Keep it up with the great editing and writing, very few channels about football come close to being this deep and touching, looking forward to another video like this.
Great video!
Hey bro,
I enjoyed the video. You got this!!!
Beautiful video!
The moment he scored that goal, my hair literally stood up of woah.
very nice video, big up man
I love your channel. This is truly poetic. New subscriber gained❤
Great Video
What a great story!!
Really thought this was one of those big channels. Great video
Good video
Your vidoes are great
The Goalgasm
For a channel with 500 subs this video is great
Great video! I know you'll make it big if you keep making good quality videos
Love this style
Great video dude keep up the good work! Crazy how you haven’t got more subs😱
You completely omitted many of his Spanish national team achievements. Like being key to Spain winning the Euro 2008, which is why he was third in the Ballon D'Or race or his horrific injury in the 2010 WC final.
how does this video have under 800 views? This is easily on par with a multi-million view video. Keep up like this and ur going places man, great video!
Well done man, earned a sub from me
Most of Us Expected Him to Miss 😂😂
As an Inter and Mourinho fan, I loved this semifinal.
nice
It's still odd to me when a player plays for two top clubs, in the same division.
lol right and it’s so common in the premier league
AINT NO WAY THIS GUYS HAS 560 Subs? That's an actual disgrace
why i love low subs channels:
I subscribed only because of the squirrel
you look like fernando torres
I have to disagree, he will of course be remembered for his prime at Liverpool.
When karma found the disgraced Barcelona. Bravo. -Milan fan
Next, Bayern Munich, UCL final!!

Loved you vid, but please don’t pronounce it as “Athletico” 🥲
Otherwise, a nice story!
I used to wonder what it would have been like if Torres had stayed with Athletico Madrid for the majority of his career. He was so crazy good
