Bobby Darin never got the serious attention he deserved...died too young...so many don't know how talented he really was. He was a performer who did bridge the gap between Big Band/Night Club (something else lost to the ages) and Rock 'n Roll. Bob D.
Bobby all the way here. Talent finessed like this always leaves me absolutely stunned and awestruck. Bobby belonged/belongs to a very special select few capable of achieving transcendental artistry.
This was the song that flew him off the charts, after "Splish Splash." A very talented guy who played several instruments, piano, drums, guitar, plus acted in some great movies, esp. "Come September" where me met Sandra Dee whom he later married. What a talent! Died way too young at age 37 in the recovery room after his last heart surgery. Sad to lose such a talent so young.
Bobby Darin greatest entertainer ever in my option and am so glad that Michael Bubble' stated that Bobby Darin was his favourite singer..... Michael does a good job of Bobby's song better than any others who have tried but still Bobby out shines them all by miles, even today long after his far too soon passing on December 20th, 1973. Bobby Darin the one of a kind multi-talented genius who always did things in his own style all the way with total brilliance.... May Bobby Darin rest in peace knowing we love, miss and remember him always. RIP
I totally agree with you! MIssing great shows of Bobb Darin, specially singing this song, until today! Michael Bubble at his turn, is so great as Frank Sinatra, in my opinion.
I have to say that Australia’s David Campbell does a fantastic version of both Mack The Knife, and Up A Lazy River. Take a listen and you’ll have to admit that it’s obvious he’s studied Bobby Darin’s to the hilt. David Campbell also starred in Dreamlover The Musical (which unfortunately I didn’t get to see as it didn’t get to Queensland.) I’m also a fan of Buble’s, and, Bobby Darin has been my favourite artist for decades.
Bobby was terminally ill, on the verge of his strengths and physically almost unable to perform - other people with his condition would be even able to sing, not to mention the dancing and entertaining the live audience - and he still outsings and outperforms any modern artist at any time. True class, true legend.
Here I go. Not even a comparison, Buble is a good vocalist but Bobby was an extraordinary, even an unique, performer. Look closely when Bobby starts out, he's looking for the response from the audience. He is great at the beginning but becomes even greater when the audience responds with the clapping. He feeds on the enjoyment of the audience, true sign of an in touch great. Great loss, wondrous performer. Buble's performance rests on his musicians, Darin's performance is all his...
This is nonsense. Buble is communicating with his audience too, from the very start. Pay attention to what is there and don't let your prejudice cloud your perception.
Very astute observation. I am a performer ( not my day job) and Mack the knife is my absolute best of my repertoire. It’s all about style and entertaining your audience. The song itself has a pretty basic vocal range. But it’s all about delivery… attitude… nuance… it’s a story that’s lyrically told.
Bobby Darin was the best, most charismatic relating to the audience. You could feel he was Mack The Knife in his performance . However , hats off to Michael Buble who I had never seen or heard for a beautiful intro and very respectful and talented rendition . He is no slouch , but Bobby Darin is the guy . Thank you to Michael Buble who was really just a name I had heard until now .
As a Long-standing Bobby Darin fan/Mack the Knife----I have to say that I LOVE and definitely appreciate Michael Bublé's VERY (respectable) tribute to Bobby---Mr. Cool and Mr., Kool!
To see Bobby Darin do this song in 1970 and still just nail it, WOW! No monitors, no props, no BS, just talent and style. Notice that he doesn't try to reproduce it exactly like the great recording, he took some chances and improvised. Bobby never quite got the acclaim he deserved, a true talent.
I watch Bobby D “Mack the Knife” you tube video (ED Sullivan) at least once a week for inspiration and just to remember what a real talent was Bobby you are always in our soul❤
In this video, Michael said that Bobby Darin was his favorite artist of all time, hands down. He is simply trying to do a tribute to Darin and his Grammy winning song. This is a stupid question. It's like asking: who does Jail House Rock better than Elvis Presley. Obviously nobody would be the correct answer. Who sings New York NY better than Frank Sinatra...nobody. Michael is a wonderful singer and performer. He isn't trying to out do his favorite artist. Sammy Davis Jr. told me that Bobby Darin was his favorite performer. That says it all.
A great tribute to a wonderful performer who owns the song. Different times, better technology, more professional. Bobby was one of a kind and didn't cover others...
Considering that Darin died 2 years before Buble was even born, and that Buble enjoys a genre of music from way before his time, and saying that " This is a tribute to one of my idols" at the begining of his rendition, i'd say he didn't do half bad. Obviously not as good as the one and only Bobby Darin...but Buble already knows that as well, no need to be rude.
While of course, we all LOVE Bobby Darin, however, I also love that Michael Buble brings back a lot of the old artists and puts a bit of a spin on the song but doesn't spare any of the orchestration of the songs. I've seen him in person, and his orchestra is phenomenal. There's no one that can be Bobby Darin....this was Buble paying homage to him. He's keeping the music alive.
Michael Buble pays a very beautiful and talented tribute to Bobby DARIN with an interpretation very inspired by that of Bobby DARIN who was an extraordinary, unique and exceptional singer, crooner and swinger.
I like Buble a lot, esp in today's world, where no other singer has nearly such a smooth & powerful voice. HOWEVER, this particular song has NEVER been performed nearly as good as when Bobby did it.....He owned it & it showed - he had so much FUN when he sang it! And we all enjoyed watching Bobby have so much fun, while knocking out some very cool music! Sal Valentinetti (from America's Got Talent fame) sang this song (among other songs) & made it HIS own - and did a pretty dang good job of it. If you google Sal Valentinetti, you'll see that he's performed many covers - a few of BD's, but also several Sinatra songs. NOBODY will ever sound like Bobby (or Frank) - we fans remember them so clearly until it's sometimes hard to listen to others sing "their" songs without cringing. But we only have what we have today - and there are a few guys around that sound pretty good, considering they are attempting to perform such monumental songs (& tapping onto our memories & our loyalties to our favorite, deeply missed performers).
There's no freakin' comparison. This song will always belong to Bobby Darin.
P
Bobby is Mack absolutely Bobby Darin is eternal
Absolutely.
I prefer Frank Sinatra’s version
HMMMMMMMMMMM NO WAY!@@jairourdaneta1
Hands down, Bobby Darin owned this song. No one will ever do it as good as him.
Michael for me❤
Absolutely there is only one Bobby Darin
No one sings it like Bobby Darin, it's HIS song.
There’s only one Mack, and that was Mr. Bobby Darin, beyond a doubt.
Nobody & I mean NOBODY sings Mack The Knife like Bobby Darin... Michael Buble???? Please...
Absolutely. No contest!
Nobody owed the stage and the room like Bobby- mesmerizing and magnificent entertainer !
Bobby Darin never got the serious attention he deserved...died too young...so many don't know how talented he really was. He was a performer who did bridge the gap between Big Band/Night Club (something else lost to the ages) and Rock 'n Roll.
Bob D.
He got serious attention...many left the show (millions), like my Mom (1969)
I like Michael Buble and I think his version of Mack the Knife is quite good; but, I still think Bobby's version is better.
I love how Darin interacts with his audience I don't think that we'll ever have such an artist like him
Lovely tribute. Buble obviously loves Bobby Darin as much as the rest of us!!
Bobby Darin without a doubt!!!!
Not even comparable. Bobby is always best.
Buble sounds good but Darin owns this song.
Bobby all the way!!! ❤️💕
Bobby left us way too soon! He was the quintessential entertainer! His music is timeless!
No contest, Bobby all the way!! Never be anybody like him again.
Of course Bobby Darin !!
Bobby Darin all the way!
Bobby Darin, the best!!!!!
Bobby all the way here. Talent finessed like this always leaves me absolutely stunned and awestruck. Bobby belonged/belongs to a very special select few capable of achieving transcendental artistry.
Bobby all the way!

Bobby Darin was one of a kind & had one of the greatest voices of all-time in my opinion... another great talent who was taken from us way to soon...

EDITH SYMMANS While Bobby perhaps perfected the song, I don't think I would say it was his.
EDITH SYMMANS Amen to that, however M. Buble is great in his own way.
I couldn't have said it better.
I totally agree with you! MIssing great shows of Bobb Darin, specially singing this song, until today! Michael Bubble at his turn, is so great as Frank Sinatra, in my opinion.

Still Bobby for me
Bobby was the best his music has easily stood the test of time
Bobby all day long!!!!!!!
I'm just stopping watching and hearing the video after Bobby the Master has finished. Love this great man's works.
Bobby Darin is the Best. Say no more.
Booby D nailed this song, his alone.
BOBBY. BY. FAR. he's the best there will only be one BOBBY
Bobby is the best; cannot be beaten; from NZ fan!
Bobby all the way! the voice, the story telling, his charisma. Bubblé is good, I like him, but still no match.
Bobby hands down.
Bobby Darin owns this song.
Bobby was terminally ill, on the verge of his strengths and physically almost unable to perform - other people with his condition would be even able to sing, not to mention the dancing and entertaining the live audience - and he still outsings and outperforms any modern artist at any time. Pawel-You hit it right on the head!:)
Today 50yrs gone great loss
No One replaces Bobby Darin
trisha cole No one is trying to replace him.
Nobody can beat Bobby's standards he's to good.

One of the best live performers ever!

@@robertanselmo8906 :::: Many Thanks always loved Bobby Darin--maybe that does cloud my opinion.....
Don’t let yours cloud you too. He does have a point@@tzenophile
Bev.... Bobby Darin.... What an handsome dude with a class A voice
Bobby's grooves are slicker no doubt!! This is Bobby's song!!👍😊
Bobby Darin, no question.
Bobby D without a doubt...but you gotta give Michael props for having good taste in choosing Bobby as his favorite artist!
Bobby D! NO Question
Bobby you are one of a kind. Luv u Bobby ❤

😮pity that the arrangement spoiled MichaelB delivery and would have been better comparison of this song
Actually---it (was) the arrangement that I loved as much as the singing--both of which were sensational!@@charleslavers4563
The one ‘ only. Bobby Darrin It’s his song👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Bobby Darin. Period.
I agree!! Only Mr. Bobby Darin can own this song!! You see, Mr. Bobby Darin was the song!!
Sammy Davis Jr. & Bobby Darin were & still are the greatest entertainers on any given night‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ FORGETABOUTIT !!
Bobby Darin is mesmerising and his talents are in abundance and second to none , Michael Buble does a brilliant rendition of Mack the Knife.
No one else could do this tune like Bobby. Everyone else is just an imposter...
It was a great tribute to a great singer!
Bobby had so much style. he was iconic ftom the start, ,I remember him well. because he is unforgettable!
This is even a question? There is no comparison. No one can do it like Bobby.
Patrick McNeal who said Buble could? or was even trying to .
Michelle Regis The person who posted the video invited it.
Patrick McNeal TOTALLY AGREE!!!
I ve been watchin Buble and R Williams version.. even Armstrong or Sinatra and nah. Bobby Darin owns it. Kevin spacey version is fine as fuck too
No contest - Bobby Darin!
Bobby …..simply the best!
Bobby was one of the best. RIP Bobby

SDJ told you that himself...pls say more about that.
Mr. Bobby Darin's performance (RIP) was great!! but yeah, this is the second best version of Mack The Knife. Thank you for uploading this video.
MICHAEL Is fabricated can’t be on the same Stage as Bobby the man can sing the phone book to me he was the greatest Phil caggiano
Buble does a good job, but doesn't have the same acid edge that BD had. Very gracious in his tribute.
Bobby is the master of kool RIP Bobby ehhh
A great tribute to a wonderful performer who owns the song. Different times, better technology, more professional. Bobby was one of a kind and didn't cover others...
No comparison. PERIOD
Bobby 😍😍😍😍

Bobby hands down
Bobby. All the way
Michael is keeping these great classics alive.....
Bobby Darin
BD all the way.
Bobby Darin is the original he is the best . No one else👍🎶🎶🎶
We have to thank Buble for keeping these great swing songs alive ❤
It's a tribute and nothing else, thank you !
Two great popular vocalists. Each brings something special

This song belongs to Bobby Darin. End of Story.
Bobby Darin was thr best. Sorry he died young....
Nice smooth, cool jazz cover ... .
Why? I don't understand why you would even compare the two. Bobby Darin owned this song.
Ditto. Bobby darin!
Bobby owns it. Burton Cummings does a good solo tribute as well
Michael has some good ones, but Bobby is a level above.
I wish I had a thimble of his talent.
A great tribute by Buble, but he is not close to Bobby.
