    How are the stem cells collected and who is the donor? Umbilical cord?

    • @lamascience
      @lamascience  Před 20 dny

      The cells originally came from human embryos. In this study, researchers manipulated these cells in the lab to develop into early-stage nerve cells capable of producing dopamine.

    Thank you, only it is not clear whether stem cells is a treatment or a cure. If they are in condition to reproduce and form new neurons we could really be safe, if we need periodical transplant of stem cells it could be a better treatment but not without risks. The immunosuppressants are dangerous should one get a contagious illness...

      It is a treatment and not a cure. So far, there is no cure for Parkinson's. There have been for years different treatments and clinical trials where some people with Parkinson's would see improvements in their symptoms. However, stem cells are a huge step and one of the recent breakthroughs in Parkinson's research.
