- A glimpse of old Jewish Polesye with background music of ballad "Zwishen di Berg di Grine", from the repertoire of Mariam Nirenberg, Jewish folk singer born in Polesye.
vocal - Olga Mieleszczuk, violin - Daniel Hoffman, klarnet - Ittai Binnun, accordion - Ofer Malchin, arrangement: Olga Mieleszczuk - Hudba
I'm Romany Gypsy. My people died with yours. Thank you for your beautiful work. Truth is beauty.
We love You,Beverly..
@Beverly, When my great great grandmother was a small child in Poland, she wandered in the forest and got lost. A Romany found her and reunited her with her family in the Jewish settlement. To save a life is to save the world. Our people died together - and we lived as neighbors once. My parents always taught me to honor the Romany people.
Bless you Beverly... See film Train La Vie, fantasy about Jews and Gypsies trying to escape Nazis and there is a beautiful scene of all of them dancing together in the field. I went to a Gypsy Festival in Poland, there were 30.000 people in audience. I was there with artist friends. It was beautiful. I also have 2 friends, twin sisters who are Jewish but sang in a very popular Gypsy group from Poland Roma.
Love Gypsy hymn Jelem, Jelem
Beverly,🙏🙏
I'm not Ashkenazi, but, who couldn't appreciate this beautiful voice and so very touching film?. Thank you, whoever did this.
Same I think there is something so sad in their music
What old Jewish song ?;...I happy died just for pure simplicity of it loving the honesty it all !!! Bloody it a suchna bloo9dy honest humans sad sufferers. Open Yr heart and learn to love again......well if u can,,,😢
Kiitos paljon!
I have both Roma and Russian Jewish in my background - there is an untold story of union between these peoples even before they were murdered together in the camps. I am automatically drawn to this beautiful ,music
Hauntingly beautiful, poignant and sad.. Love her Yiddishkeit... My people were Russian, Polish-Austrian. Love music of my people; I have been, and always will be connected to the Jewish soul.
I come from similar very mixed family roots and this music seems to reflect my feelings - my soul - like no other - I would like to learn more about it......
@Malka Sephardic jew here and my people found their way to Poland and Austria. And then to America. The rest...you said for me. Always connected.
Thank you.
I'm not Jewish, but I like old songs, including Jiddish songs very much.
I enjoy Olga's delicate melancholiic interpretations...
I'm Jewish my grandmother on my mother's side came from poland.I noticed in one of the photos a baby in a little bassinet that had a rope going to the ceiling. My mother told me that her mother was in such a bassinet as a baby and the rope had accidently broke which affected injured her and made it hard for her to walk.Years later she had a surgery which helped a lot.So interesting to see these old photos it connects me to my families past.

I have ashkenazian roots and I‘ m sad and lucky at same time, if I hear this song
Hi. I live in Brest (Brisk in Yiddish) now, and visit Czarnawczyce very offen. But I never heard about Mariam Nirenberg. Also like other habitants of Czarnawczyce. We Belarusians remember about our lost neighbors Jews and Polishs and their cultures. Thank you for this video. Not far from Czarnaczyce is placed little town Kamianiets (Kamieniec), discribed by Yehezkel Kotik in his literature.
I’m Jewish and my grandpa was from Brest. When he was born when it was still Brest Litovsk and under Polish rule. He was born and technically lived in Terespol but would spend a lot of his time in Brest. His stories were always very sad, he left in 1921 but he suffered severe ptsd until he passed.
it's crazy that even in America so many Jews have last names that are namesakes of these towns you are talking about
a world nearly lost...
@@ibnyahud for example Brisker, Slutsker or Pinsker. In Belarus and Lithuania was placed so called Kingdom of Litvaks. In the end of 19 century Jews from Belarus had started to emigrate to another towns of Russian Empire especially to Odessa. But after first ''pogroms'' in the territory of Ukraine they began to emigrate to America. And that process of emigration was long untill WW2 started in 1939.
Thank you for sharing this part of European history with us.
What a great pleasure to hear this, a lost world indeed. With thanks and love from Israel.

There was a bishop, Kazimierz Bukraba. He helped Jews a lot, and they blessed him in their prayer.
Piękna pieśń oraz i wykonanie wspomnienia młodych lat Shalom

Sending greetings to a lost world - thanks for keeping alive in songs.
To bardzo poruszająca muzyka z miłością.
A melancholy beauty permeates throughout....
reminds me of songs that my grandmother used to sing. thank you for helping keep this music alive
I met a friend 50 years ago who walked from Poland at the end of 1939 to Odessa ,his parents murdered by the nazis. At 16 years old he arrived in Egypt and joined the British army saying he was 18!
He fought the germans and obtained the british nationality. Rest in pace Alex!
Not NAZI! GERMAN!!!!
The wonders of film and public Video archives allow us to enter a time capsule that's almost mind blowing in its scope.
OLD JEWISH POLESYE!!!!Great singing !!!
THANK-YOU FOR KEEPING US ALIVE!
YOUR WORK IS SO IMPORTANT TO ALL. ✡️
Great record. Shalom from Australia 🇦🇺. :) ^^ 😀
Beautiful music and sentiment! One note - Chaim Weizmann (my cousin) was originally from Motol, a town near Pinsk.
Thank you so much for your great work in keeping these songs and traditions alive!!!!! This is by far the best way to honor the dead, to attempt to repair the irreparable damage and waste laid on by human hatred and ignorance. It is not only beautiful to be able to hear these melodies still, it is a crucial endeavor, for all of humanity.
Thank you so much! This words make me keep going!!!
@@Olginiam Can i get the lyrics to this anywhere? i can only understand a few words but would love to learn to sing this

Bittersweet, beautiful...thank you.
....my heart goes out to them with all my love and prayers....
There is no love greater to man than to stay connected with one's culture. This subject unites us with the maker of the universe. We can't have one without the other. The pictures remind me of the movie Fiddler on the Roof. I am Jewish through my spirit. Keep up the good work. Shalom.
No, there is no love greater to man that to give one's life for one's friends.
@@Paolo-gj7ipNo, there is no love greater than to send the only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Infiniment touchée, émue par ces souvenirs de Pologne, cette belle musique comme une berceuse Je ne suis pas juive mais mon âme l’est

Dziekuje za te piekne obrazy i piesn od serca. Szolem alejchem
"Szolem" ? XDD
@@poloniek973 Tak: szolem. Z polska pisownią będzie 'szołem'.
W jidysz tak się wymawia 'szalom' 😉
@@rheinhartsilvento2576 In Hebrew it is pronounced Shalom. In Yiddish it is pronounced Shoilom
@@jazura2 True. But transcribed in Polish, the Yiddish version it is often spelled "szo(j)lem alejchem".
That's the one I used😉
@@rheinhartsilvento2576 Of course. I was only referring to the comment that in Yiddish it is Shalom which it is not
Very interesting, my Mothers last name was Nerenberg, and they came from Latvia, and later from Kiev. I wonder if we were related? My Fathers family was both from Kiev and Poland. Thanks for this beautiful video!

P. Olgo gratulacje.
My soul vibrates and cries from the unspeakable, being transformed into music.
No words can describe the haunting beauty and sadness of the song and the singer. Countless voices silenced embrace the song. The brutality and cruelty of the Nazis is beyond me.
Prostě nádherné, nostalgické, krásné, dekuji, Thomas Karl 🇨🇿
Beautiful! Many thanks!
Это видео супер! Браво 🌹🌹🌹
Thats all I think about these days how the Jews people were mistreated, but yet they stand up and be counted and very proud.

Wow my Mother’s maiden name was Nerenberg. They came from Russia. Kiev was the last city they lived in before they went to UK, and then America. They had to stay in England for two years before they were able to come to America because of the Jewish quota system!! Thanks you so much for this wonderful video!! It is greatly appreciated!! 🔯
Très intéressant, et la chanson est magnifique !
