      My Nokia Lumia was definitely the most beautiful phone I had. It stayed with me for more than two years. I was the only guy in our class (possibly the whole batch) who had a windows phone and was constantly haggled by my friends to shift to android. It didn't have many apps, but it had all the apps I needed. I used to joke with my friends who would check it out and call it as the no-fun phone since it was Spartan. Not many exciting games or out of the ordinary apps. It was reliable though, very fast, easy to use, and durable. I could go on using my phone listening to music, watching videos, or surfing on the net without bothering to charge in between for the whole day and even the next day. Sadly I lost the phone and since Windows Phones were already pulled out of my country by the time I had to buy a new one I was forced to buy an Android.
      I am satisfied with android, but there is something about that easy swipe and those tiles that Windows 8 had which just lightens you up.

      @NonStick872 Před 3 lety +2

      I totally agree, and seeing those tiles again is actually a little upsetting they were the best, and then I saw some theme creater for iPhone make something that looks spectacularly like windows phone and it's made them rich

      @@avatarspirit57 yeah from Windows phone 7 to 8 and then windows 10 phone never liked it called that but they were the best. Sadly at that time the whole of Microsoft had issues I believe in the sence look at the original Xbox one just as badly managed as Windows phone was.
      If the surface team and the Xbox team of today were around back then, not only would the original Xbox one have been a great upgrade from the 360 but windows phone would also still be around, especially with Phil Spencer and the whole cross platform and interconnetability

    It's a shame that the Windows Phone failed. It was a really great phone, way ahead of it's time. Probably failed due to lack of marketing and stores not having it on display, and the few that did had them in a back corner. Wasn't enough users for app developers to be willing to take the time to develop apps for it. One thing not mentioned in this video was the ability to connect USB devices. I had a USB hub that I plugged into mine, and everything I've plugged into it from external hard drives, printers, disc drives, game controllers, typing keyboards, midi keyboard worked with FL Studio, and even a mouse worked. Actually still a decent phone to use today for basic use, especially for people who don't like having 50+ apps installed.

    It really is a shame that MS decided to let it go.
    Far ahead of its time and featuring very powerful hardware as well as useable software. Some of my friends were using it "back in the day" ;) I was blown away by the speed and the camera quality.
    At that time I used a Lumia 630 - due to certain circumstances and a very attractive price tag of 57 € - and I was trying to decide whether to get the 950 or the 950xl when Microsoft announced the discontinuation of the series. I was very disappointed to say the least and had a hard time choosing an alternative. The lifestyle solutions produced by apple were (and are) no alternative for me. So I chose Android and Sony and ended up feeling quite at home, but I still miss a lot of things about the Lumia series...

    I hated moving on from my Lumia 950XL such an amazing phone. I still have mine with a display dock and am so tempted to take a giant leap backwards to it. When my banking app for it stopped being supported it was a pain but I used edge for a while then eventually I couldn't access my online banking with edge either and at that point I figured I better move on. When you can't do the basic stuff we all use our devices for it just isn't worth it to cling to the old tech. Just can't bring myself to get rid of it yet though. Honestly kind of tempted to see if I can dock it and stream Geforce Now through it and some of the other streaming services just for fun. Thanks for the video!

    Way back when, I used Windows Phone 7 on an LG, even the guy at the phone store used one and I was so excited. It was basically a continuous car crash with an overly optimistic fan base, largely as Google feared it and Microsoft made 9999 poor decisions - from the WP8 upgrade destroying the tiny app ecosystem to forcing everyone to use IE as their web browser. As with everything WP, it ended with monumental expectation and a complete implosion. Edge was switching to Chromium, we had Windows 10 coming, even apk support. Running android apps on my phone felt like we'd finally made it. Considering the $$$ spent, killing Nokia in the process, and the poor uptake, I think Satya made the right choice to can it and now Microsoft is finally challenging Amazon's monopoly on cloud, and we have open source even Linux software being created by MS which was unthinkable. But I miss this. I only left for Android to use Apple Music after Microsoft canned apk support, and now PWAs are everywhere - I use the apple music web app in Edge on my PC - it feels like if WP held on even just a year more, it could have been so different. Rip Windows Phone, there are few products with such a tragic history or loyal fanbase.

    I still don't understand why Microsoft doesn't insist on a machine similar to the Nokia Lumia 950 XL (I have one of my own). But, already in 2023, together with the current hardware, it should add something that many of us who know a little about computing: software similar to ARM Windows, which would allow us -without complications- to have a dual start. Thus, we could read "exe" files, and even program. It would be finely a pocket computer, and cell Phone. Hopefully this idea will be implemented by Microsoft. Good video.
