Was FIELD MOB Blackballed By LUDACRIS? Here's Why Their Growth Was Stunted

- One of the most difficult realities that’s hard to accept as a good artist is not being properly compensated for their creation. Whether monetarily, or in the form of praise that leads to accolades. Today’s feature knows that all too well. As far as being good artist, Shawn J and Smoke of Field Mob were more than that. The Grammy nominated group were on fire in the early 2000s with their creative, witty, fun, but real way of displaying their music, known for touching on real topics like slavery and inequality. They had songs about love like every other male artist, but theirs gave a different and interesting perspective, like how does the woman feel about you out all night and not paying attention to her after the relationship get stale and comfortable. Or how does your lady feel having to hear the people whisper around her about all the negative things connected to your name. They were aware of how country people were looked at and made fun of for sounding a certain way, or eating this or that off animals considered unclean, or the way they dressed and danced. They took that and made themselves the mascot for it, proud of the field they came from and showed it. Two talented individuals from a small town that made classic records in their era, just couldn’t survive the hurdles they had to get over, and by 2006 they were gone as we knew them when they first began to create their buzz in 99-00. It’s not often you see a rap group from the south, go to a New York based record label and put out a single and it become a top 20 billboard hit, an album that goes gold and become their biggest album to date, and be nominated for one of the biggest awards you can get as an entertainer. A Grammy. What is often is we see too many rappers or rap groups complain about being unfairly compensated for their work from a label, that leads two you never hearing for those artist again. It’s a travesty we didn’t get more field mob in the early 2000s, and even today, where their lyrical prowess and melodic sound could still be relevant today had Ludacris not apparently Blackball them. Was Field Mob Blackballed, and was it done by Ludacris?
Yes I heard he been on shady stuff
If so wouldn't be the first time an artist said that luda blackballed them
@@itsmerochell3299 Yea, heard Shawnna say the same thing
Chingy said the same
Luda is worthless as a music exec
This is why rappers should never sign to another rapper
JUST SIGNING POINT IS BAD..FACT !
@@reginaldbrownmusic8356 that is true but back then, you had to sign in other to get pushed and distributed. You cannot sell cds in the street or off the back of your trunk in other to get known nationally and internationally
Another artist is never going to give you the same amount of promotion or priority as they will for themselves
I 110% agree with this. And this is not to say all rapper CEOs are bad but they dont care about artists best interest unless they've already exceeded their own expectations.
@@dillbert4084 big fax. However I always thought if Wayne got his money and cash money didnt blow up behind the scenes I truly think Young money would've been better off cause I've never heard anyone say wayne was the issue. It was always stunna
KInda ironic that real life Ludacris was blocking the success of new artists who just didn't know any better like his character did in Hustle N' Flow
Ludacris team have done more than a few shady practices.
You see how 2 Chainz left DTP and blew up.
Didn't Chingy go through something like to with Luda and DTP
@@chrisgaskins7441 I think Chingy was beefing with Luda when he was hot.
Lil Wayne is the only artist-owner that pushed the other artists more than the owner-artist
If you do Field Mob you gotta do Nappy Roots

No, no he doesn't gotta do the nappy nots
I 2nd this
Yes!!!!
I second this motion
Field Mob albums were whole experiences with all the emotions. Happy, funny, introspective, dance friendly tracks, history lesson, hood tracks. Them boys were so diverse.
The more I learn the more I see how shady Luda was back in the day. Shawnna, Chingy field mob, 1-20, playa circle, Shareefa Smh its damn near another bad boy situation. Its sad
What happened to shareefa?
He started off doing radio as Chris Luva Luva and from what I heard ...he came from a family that is well to do...he even had connections in Hollywood ...early in his career...his Father was childhood friends with Denzel Washington...one of his first singles " Phat Rabbit" was produced by Timbaland...who was charging artists ...5 or 6 figures for production work in the early 2000's ...a brand new artist gets featured on " Need For Speed Underground 2" and they played his music in Footlocker and Champs...I'm talking about " IncogNegro"...not the Def Jam South album...he was a Industry plant from day one!
@@theinfamouschb that was Shawnna sister
You have to understand that def jam south was a label that was signed to a label and then you got dtp which was a label that was signed to a label that was signed to a label that was signed to a major. Now you tell me who was shady.

This duo never gets name dropped when the south artists are spoke on.
Another in the bag. Love how you capture the essence of my youth. Do Cool Cutta a.k.a. Cool Breeze. He coined the phrase "dirty south" Peace and blessings!
Watch for the hook!
Cool Breeze killed himself. He didn't even wanna be part of The Dungeon Family. Plus, he was mad that "Dirty South" was supposed to be his solo song but Rico Wade put it on Goodie Mob album.
@@JayJackson1981 I didn't know he killed himself or that he was in feelings about them being on there.

He isn't dead but what I meant was that he kinda ruined his own career. He allowed having his song taken from him (understandable enough though) to take his hunger away from him. He didn't care anymore after that. Looking back, you can tell as he went from the obvious up next to being slowly phased out for Witchdoctor and Backbone.
