I think the thing is he was underrated lyrically earlier on due to trying to get hits (which he did) I’ve always knew about his lyrical abilities, I used to listen to his freestyles all the time as a kid and his street dreams mixtape was unbelievable. But to me people didn’t really look at him lyrically until his TINC 2 and his Funeral Fab/Losos Way era that’s when he peaked if you ask me. I still think he’s super dope but isn’t exactly as passionate and really trying to produce music at a high level like he has in the past.

I think the industry transition to Southern hip hop in the mid-2000s definitely had an effect on Fab and a lot of other super lyrical NY artists at the time (i.e. Papoose, Joe Budden, Juelz, etc.)… after Fiddy, labels just stopped pouring that many resources into NY hip hop.. he was just a victim of the times

Funnily enough when Fabolous dropped his first album Ghetto Fabolous people were saying he sounded like Ma$e especially on the song Ma' Be Easy. That's how the whole beef with Ma$e started when Ma$e took a shot at him for using his style. By the time Fabolous dropped his second album Street Dreams he had his own style and when Lloyd Bank$ blew up with G-Unit people thought he sounded like and took Fabolous style

I tell my boys this every single time A GOAT Conversations comes up! Fabolous is one of the greats of our time and to have ever done it. He pioneered our style of dress, made HITS, and dropped CLASSIC Freestyles on DJ clue tapes, his mixtapes, and various shows (Rap city, Funk Flex, BET AWARDS CYPHER ETC.). Do I feel his growth was stunted, yes and no because his pen goes a long way and he can rap with the best of them, because he can grab you with his punchlines, and metaphorical abilities. I believe he just didn’t want to be king, he was/is good with being acknowledged.. but mainly RESPECTED! By the likeness of his peers and fans that be… Therefore he is truly A LEGEND, and no one can debate that.
