Do not think the snake was alive, just still moving due to they move for a long time after death, even if their heads are removed, the body will keep moving.

Usually when any animal seem to be choking,it spits out the food& maybe try eating it again?. But that means the young chick is pretty stupid to allow a chance of choking to death to just eat?.

Birds airway is totally separate from digestive system, reptiles as well. Which is why they can swallow huge items with the food still in its throat for a prolonged amount of time
