  • This is just a nice simple job, I am doing a quick brood inspection and adding a second deep box to give this queen more space.

Thanks for the video Scott. That queen is doing a great job laying the frames up. Give her another 4 to 6 weeks and that box will be exploding. Thanks again.....

Greetings from Erin! Yes, this hive needs another box however interesting that only middle of the hive is occupied. I agree that better working without gloves for better communication with bees 😀

This is the first video that I got this year from you. Probably, because I was just thinking about you yesterday, I was like, I wonder why I haven't haven't been getting any of your videos. Do many things was running through my head and hoping that everything was okay. I enjoy watching your videos and God bless brother.

"hoping that everything was okay" .... well winter is slow so not much to video and then my spring time is nuts (greenhouse business) so I am finally getting back in the bee yard. I shot four videos today alone...now I just need the time to edit and upload. Thanks for watching.Scott

I feel listened to. My bee keeping follows the same route as to planning. Things happen. Apologies for my last comment. I was expecting some of your stop motion magic that is so special.

Bob, no need to apologize, I loved your comment, I just found humour in it (As I do with so many things) I can not count the numbers of time I have some sort of a plan and the bees have other ideas of how my day will go is all I was trying to say...I guess.
I shot a video today of trying to set up a hive to use the Snelgrove board to try and stop swarming but it looks like the bees are on track to supersede so my plan changes real fast....LOL
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

Really enjoyed your video I was thinking about you the other day when I was working my bees. And low and behold you watched my latest video. I hope your bees do well for you this summer.

"And low and behold you watched my latest video"....I don't seem to get much time to sit at the pc this time of year but I like to try and see what a few other beekeeper are up.
" I hope your bees do well for you this summer."...My bees are booming this year, such a switch from last year.
      Thanks for stopping by.

That queen is laying it up. You must have a good flow going. Are you going to feed that hive some sugar water to draw out that comb? Have a great week Scott.

    • @BeekeepinginNorthernOntario
      @BeekeepinginNorthernOntario  Před rokem +1

No, I don't feed when there is a flow on, they will draw that out fine.
I will feed nuc just because there numbers are to low .

Hello Scott. Nice video. I enjoyed seeing you managing this hive.
Just a question, why you don't clip the queens wings to avoid a swarm escape, I don't know why not all professional beekeepers do it, just wondering if it has any disadvantages. Personally I did it this year and I didn't find any noticeable disadvantage

I think what will happen is the swarm will still go, but the queen will end up in grass and the swarm will come back, if you see it, then you just need to open the hive and make splits or do whatever you do to stop the next swarm. If you do not see the swarm, whether the clipped queen gets back in the hive or not, the swarm leaves as soon as the first virgin queen is ready to fly, so not really a great way to stop swarms...my thinking.
      Thanks for Watching.

Thanks Scotty, I enjoyed that ! The fence behind the hives, is that electrified to keep animals out?

Hey, Scotty. I realized as time goes by in this game that even the biggest jobs take so little time. I moved a colony over the weekend into a big horizontal permenent hive and what I had thought was going to be a long afternoon was done with the clean up in 15 minutes. Now what do I do? Sit and enjoy.

I'm 73 and have 13 hives and I need more, takes as much time to prepare and cleanup as to the actual work. The only problem is lifting the full supers that often are stacked up higher than my head!
