Crested Butte Bike Week

One of the best bike festivals in the country!
Bike week is now a multi-day celebration of all things mountain bike in the Gunnison Valley. We still have the big thigh burner of a singletrack race, the Fat Tire 40, but now CB Bike Week is more of a celebration of how mountain biking defines our community in the summer. Join us for clinics, a film festival, the Chainless Downhill World Championships, good beer, and a great party.

True story...back in the mid 80's, my bonfire just below the pass saved a young couple from death.
We camped out (my parents and I) just below the pass overnight.
A huge snow storm (maybe a blizzard) covered the pass to the point of being impassable.
That day a young couple got stuck up on the pass. By nightfall they were still stranded. Desperate no doubt, as they were all alone in a blizzard up on top of a pass.
That night I had made a huge bonfire. The couple saw a small light from up on the pass, and made their way towards it.
When they made it to our camp, they had to sleep under my step-dicks mitsubishi montero for the remainder of the night.
Thankfully, we were able to drive them and us off of the mountain to safety in the morning.
I will never forget that moment of luck.
