  • The resort of Side in Turkey, is visited by millions of people every year, but is it the best holiday resort? Introduced by Mick Scarsbrook (Mick Amca) who lived in Turkey for over 30 years. Side is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey, the hotels are a high standard, great night life and the ancient ruins are exceptional.

We've just returned from a fortnight stay in Marmaris... It was nice but I couldn't help but compare it to the last holiday we had in Side.... Antalya is definitely the place to go in Turkey.

I had four lovely holidays in Side all spent close to Side town and one being in the town itself,no pool as the garden was full of ruins.Fabulous big hotels on the outskirts of Side but they aren't our style. We had some fabulous tours around the area and loved Manavgat which we found reminiscent of Chester.I would never go to a performance at Aspendos again after finding the one we went to very dangerous.I was almost squashed to death at the entrance where I was pushed by the crowds into a fence.Although you have an entrance ticket they just cram more and more people in.We had to sit on the steps where others kept crowding us.Although the performance was very colourful we could not enjoy it as it wasn't safe.At half time we struggled to get out for refreshments and decided not to go back in.We spent a pleasant time at the bar with crowds of others who felt safer outside.
Day time trips to Aspendos were much more interesting, admiring the ruins and countryside.

Interesting and informative. Brings back many memories of this area. Over the years we have stayed at dozens and dozens of 5 star all inclusive hotels in Side, Lara Beach etc. A lot of people mistakenly think if they are 5 star they are all fantastic. They are not. Thomas Cook etc will take your money but the difference between many hotels in terms of quality of food and service is extraordinary. Even when you have paid the same £1000 to stay for 7 nights in August.

Great video, nice to have visited in 2023. There's almost too much going in Side. The antiquity clashes with the modern nightlife. Bazaars and markets are a plenty and I can only imagine the status of an aggressive marketplace is made more difficult by the financial crisis. One example speaking to people saving for a car, had a plan to achieve that in a year, now 4 years given price increases. Terrible time for many. I do not recommend any of the hotels in the Old town harbour areas, the front is dominated by 2 open air nightclubs playing music until 3:00 am every day. Great for partygoers, but not for everyone more interested in the tranquillity and ancient exploration. Excursions in the Manavgat area were amazing. The ancient sites were amazing, integrated with new buildings and restaurants. Old town has a green policy, no vehicles apart from 1 drop of or pick up for hotel residents so walking required to get to taxis and transport links. Restaurants generally good, but now affected by confusing menus and pricing with the Lira menu not often available and Euro only. Lots to see and do, a reflective video and summary but be wary of the nightlife and financial impacts - doubt if i'll be back 😕

6:29 is very clear sometimes but you can only see 1 meters but not anytime. If you want clear water near side, you can go "aktaş" 30 minute with car or minibus but it you need to make research before go because it is a little far from cities. If you want really clean water you can go "dimçayı" in Antalya but it is very far from side like 2 hours and 30 minutes with car and it is little rocky but it is very clean, blue water. If you cant go far from side, place in 6:29 is best place but still sometimes it isnt very clean.
