2023 Honda Ridgeline RTL E: Start Up, Test Drive, Walkaround, POV and Review

  • 👋 In todays video we take a look at the new 2023 Honda Ridgeline! This is the top trim level (minus the black out appearance) and has a good bit to offer for this style of pickup! The Honda Ridgeline is a unibody style pickup truck, so it's not body on frame like every other pickup available! With that being said, it can tow around 5K pounds and has tons of cargo space in the bed and below the bed with the independent rear suspension. That's also going to provide it with a smoother onroad drive than having a solid rear axle.
For the exterior, it's what you would expect from a Honda Pilot or Odyssey. The interior is exactly like those models as well so if you are a Honda owner and in the need for the bed space, you are going to be very familiar with the layout, styling and how this drives! The interior also has plenty of space for the rear seat passengers which is nice!
This is really not an offroad focused pickup truck like the Ranger or Tacoma, so if you just need that open space for bicycles or other equipment and want a comfortable and pretty good vehicle on MPG, it's a good option for those who want an SUV with a bed!

I like how Honda has kept this steering wheel design along with the steering buttons on the Ridgeline. It reminds of the 2016-2017 Accords interior , which is definitely a very good memory

It means out of date in another way. Japanese companies are kinda behind with new technologies. US manufacturers are using full lcd cluster almost every new car. The infotainment and cluster makes the truck look like 5 year old 😱

If it parks like the CRV my wife has ,,I’m in ! I’ve drove trucks or full size ford vans all my life , I just don’t like the ride any more , and they are more difficult to maneuver . @@BrosFOURRSpeed, this really is a niche truck. I have a long daily commute, spending a lot of time behind the wheel. So a comfortable, relatively quiet ride is nice to have. I won't go off-road, but have projects that require a truck bed and towing that will fall within the 5,000 lb towing capacity. That works for many suburban/urban users, but certainly not all, to be sure.

I just bought a 2023 RTL and absolutely love it. The cargo capacity is class leading with over 1500lbs. I plan on using mine to tow a small camper (tear drop) that weighs about 2500lbs GVW and the occasional Home Depot runs. I also love the 3.5 V6 ! I don’t think the reliability of a 4cyl Turbo is comparable, Chevy is having issues with the Colorado’s. I think unless your using it for construction or towing a 10K lb load its 90% of what pick-up owners need, just my .02, thanks

Canyon is a great looking truck - but quality control is lacking - in a way it's subsidized by the consumer with their extended warranties.

Because the Ridgeline drives/rides better on the road. The comfort use of space in the truck. The lockable watertight in-bed trunk. No others have come with that large space. Hyundai Santa Cruz can probably hold a backpack laying flat a couple. The new Canyon has a storage space inside tailgate. It could hold a jacket some some bungee maybe skinny fishing pole.
Ridgeline can hold Igloo BMX 52 cooler, luggage, power tools, weapons for hunting.

    • @fredmoss4540
      @fredmoss4540 Pƙed rokem +2

Do they ride better on-road or daily driving. Probably not they haven't over the years. This is compared with 1st and 2nd Generation. The others can tow more. However when you compared payload numbers. The Ridgeline can haul more than some of the midsized Body-On Frame pickup trucks. Tacoma TRD off-road that sell alot.
The Ridgeline cabin is bigger so can fit 5 inside. The bed is shallow but wider and can fit 4×8 sheets of plywood laying flat in it's Bed.
This is something the new Ford Ranger is claiming it can do. The Ridgeline was doing it back in 2017.
If you look at Consumer Reports test Ridgeline scores way better in Overall scores and Road Test scores. If people don't like CR Motor Trend and Car and Driver rate Ridgeline high always.
Ridgeline is not a workhorse pickup truck. Currently it's not climbing rock's either. But a long vacation trip of 1,000 mile drive it won't beat you up like conventional Body-On Frame pickup truck. Especially the midsized trucks. It's Pilot and Acura MDX roots help this. The cabin space when you flip up rear 60/40 seats. The new Canyon, Ranger or Tacoma can't match that.
So when your hauling cargo inside.
That's why it's been called a Practical Pickup Truck or Thinking Man's Pickup or Gentleman's Pickup Truck. So if you not towing over max 5,000lbs. Not rock crawling. Then check the Payload Capacity numbers of some of the Body-On Frame pickup trucks.
The Ridgeline might be way more or on par. Some of the recently redesign midsized trucks just upgraded so check 2022 models against Ridgeline.
