Calvin has consistently great takes, a mature attitude, and is one of the best players...We're lucky to have him!
Brodie was in flow state this podcast. Speaking absolute FACTS.
Take Uli away and it's a great show!
“Your dog has a weird bark” - Brodie Smith 😂😂😂😂
Zach looked like he was sitting on a toilet with a shower curtain behind him
Lol, 100%
If you drop due to injury you have to go on a 15 day injury list like baseball
Brodie spittin straight FACTS about the Cole situation. Amen brotha
Drew Gibson played a practice round with Isaac before champion’s cup in which Isaac called Calvin “un clutch”. It was comical considering those guys have popped off 2x and then disappeared as opposed to Calvin who is top 5 the last 20 tourneys
I mean i am a big calvin fan but isaac has earned his right to talk as a two time major winner
I 100% agree
Yah what are you talking about 😂
As far as the Jedi looking unprofessional I couldn’t disagree with Brodie more. Sports are leaning more into having fun and being creative.
Look at the Baltimore Orioles and their ‘Splash Zone’. The team gets a double and the players make a sprinkler celebration blowing water from the dugout, hit a homer they drink from the ‘Dong Bong’ in the dugout, all while a guy hired by the Orioles named ‘Mr. Splash’ literally blasts fans in an entire section of Camden Yards with a water hose. Its gotten so popular that the orioles are doing their first ‘Mr Splash bobblehead night’ coming up…
A Jedi spotter on May 4th is more than fine
If you just heard the audio: you would think it’s Ben Callaway doing a Calvin impression
Gannon Burr is awesome Calvin impression on putting funny AF
This was a really good episode ~ it's amazing to have a podcast about your sport from the pro point of view! I dont take it for granted, thanks you all
Great episode! Always love Calvin, and when Zach is around y'all get a little more goosey. Cheers! 🍻
I still can't believe that Calvin can make a Quantum Quasar fly like that. Even in Emporia wind 🤯🤯🤯
I don’t think people realize how much he actually rips. Even his destroyer is one of the most stable discs in my bag next to my force. He’s crazy
Calvins reaction to the hay bales lol
Brodie: “I know you guys hate walls, but what if the wall was made from bricks of dried grass?!” 😂
Shout out to Zach for The Office inspired Schrute Beet Farm sweater! 👏👏
Brody, you make an excellent point about standards for pro tour. It's one thing playing C tiers, but Pro Players should be more inline with other sports. Only way disc golf will be taken more seriously. Again, like you said, local play can be a lighter set of rules (it's rare to find anyone that knows the rules anyway in C tiers)
To solve the pace of play issue, let the quicker groups play through 😂
Exactly
Calvin was lights out on Sunday. You can hear by the way he answers the questions he's a born winner. Why would he not go for it on 16?
The real question is why RICKY layed up on 16. (All due respect to Ricky)
Then. 17 was awesome
Love the comedic pause at around 14 minutes, I was rolling !
them cutting amazing shots mid life, it's brutal, this podcast brodie is doing is huge for the game, he needs to clip some of these key points with the camera man there, and please start making montages of shots that were cut mid flight that shouldn't have. push for the changes
My most memorable ever in sports was watching Torrey Smith deal with the loss of his brother in 2012. He literally got the call at 1am on Sunday that his brother died drove home to be with family and then came back to 4pm and ball out!
Lol that wild story of the week was my card! At Victory Park In Albion Michigan!! I was the second guy who got hit!!!
STOKED TO USE THE THRU BUTTON!! THANKS FOR THE PRO-TIP BRO!
The shiplap game is strong with Calvin.
DNF penalties should be escalating in severity…
1st one = no penalty with valid reason
2nd = miss next registered tournament
3rd = miss plus fine/points penalty
Etc…
Cole should make it right for him self, his fans but most importantly for the people who organised the tournement and the protour!
Calvin is stone cold "What possibly made you want to run it on 16?"
"I saw Ricky lay up and I just wanted to end him"
I think talking about a shot/shots of the tournament with a clip of the shots would be cool.
I could listen to Calvin all day!!!! Zach you have a bright future with DGN keep up the great work guys
The wall should have large holes in it like a massive Connect 4 board.
The spotter was dressed like that for "May the 4th" which has become a pseudo holiday now. I would bet if you go to any MLB or other professional events they do something similar
Joseph Anderson snubbed rookie of the year is a stretch. Believe it or not he didn’t get one top 10 finish in 2023. He’s stepping it up big time this season!
Major sports teams do Star Wars nights, bring your dog to the stadium games, all sorts of fun stuff like the spotter was participating in. Brodie sounds like a crotchety old man in this episode
Re read what you wrote and tell me if you see a difference
@@BrodieSmith does it make a raiders game unprofessional when they have vendors and staff in the concourses in costumes at a game on Halloween? Cause you know that same thing happens.
Lots of get off my lawn energy lately. Not a good look. Getting back to the make disc golf the PGA tour vibes from you.
Brodie is the opposite of professional
Zach, were you typing a term paper on that laptop during the podcast? Keep that thing still 😂
Think it might be his phone?
And the constant mic noise 🤬
1:05:58 agree. I love disc golf but I hate the backups when I play and when I’m watching. I much prefer post coverage because of this.
What Calvin described about not laying up is the same principle about the folly of the prevent defense in football. There are so many games lost trying to prevent the other team from scoring than just laying the hammer down when you're betting with house money. As a wize man once said, when you get a mullet in the boat, you step on its head.
If group sees that group ahead of them is clearly playing slowly, I recommend that someone calls to TD and asks someone to come to follow and time that slow group. Just tell what course you are on if there are multiple courses and hole number. An easy solution.
It can be a caddy as well who makes the call. TD's and officials don't usually have time to follow scorecard to look for slow groups.

Mason Ford
Ezra Aderhold
Need to win 1.
Love those dudes!
Best show yet
Totally agree on cutting to the catch cam too soon. I want to see the full flight of the disc, come on!
Brodie is good for Disc golf . Love this guy !
Calvin and Zach trolling the clickbait hot takes are a great contrast.
So good , last 20 minutes couldn’t stop laughing
No to hole 18 tee knuckle's, yes to after round completion hand shakes
just have a cut line at the cash line. It will prevent people who are out of it from DNF'ing. Also, to cash the people in the final round must finish. If not the last cash goes to the person from previous round who didn't make the cut.
Hate the DNFs. Following a tournament is already tough enough as a fan. People dropping randomly further complicates it.
the jedi only happened in one round, on may 4th, they didn't have a jedi before may 4th, there isn't another date that would inspire a costume besides may 4th.
Thought it was classy OB Kenobi! And he did his job well still..green lightsaber= disc is in; red= OB
October 31st
Zack needs to be on more for sure
if the out line is painted is the side closest to the course always the border? is it defined in the caddie book?
Yes! The line itself is out in all tournaments by PDGA rule. So the disc has to touch the fairway on the inside.
Dry Bones is goated in MK8.
That tantrum compilation video is mostly Nikko Locastro lol
I'm not super familiar with Zach, but I've seen him a fair amount recently, and dude is hilarious!
Don't worry. I'm not concussed anymore. =)
Matt wanted to give the crowd something to cheer about with his second throw
The best solutions aren’t being looked at because everyone wants to protect the FPO. I get it, but if we are being honest, if you want to make the game better, the MPO needs to part ways with FPO. No other sport does this, that’s like the PGA waiting on the LPGA to finish their round on the same course.
YeS!!!! Brodie YEs!! The reason i stopped playing was because sitting on a teepad all day isnt my thing! Tournaments cost way too much nowadays for the product and experience they provide the player.
The drop zone on 16 was moved to keep the field from cheating the game. To many times last year, the pros wouldn't call each other for not "crossing over the island" from the drop zone when they clearly didn't. This eliminates the need for them to hold each other accountable.
do a stat mando on how many winners has there ever been with someone actively wearing ear buds. i am not sure there has ever been a winner with ear buds. i knew king has won some, but not sure if she was wearing buds. do a stat of percentage of wins with those not wearing headphones, and those wearing headphones, i think it may be 99.5% to .5%
If you DNF on the pro tour, I'd say you get put on the Injured list for 15 days unless you come back with a doctor's declaration that you're fit to play. "Oh my back's bugging me!" Ok, then go get it looked at!
It'd surely stop the fictitious injuries, as it ain't free to go to the doctor in the United States!
Zach is awesome, but that background noise was out of control.
That headset 😂
Back in the day it was the last time you saw the card mates as a whole bc some would go collect cash and others would go to parki g lot and leave.
common man sports always have an "original" or "silly" aspect. the more high brow the less. think about what sports have mascots or hot dogs racing a box of popcorn and many other examples. it's golf in how it's played... but its also frisbee...
Went and bought a ZM Maverick as soon as I finished this pod. I’ve always thought ZM was hilarious but seeing his professional side as well and the fact that his dawg is a cat… sold. Fuck ya
It's Armchair Quarterback btw.
Copy the PGA with this one - groups of 3. If one group of 4 has 2 really slow players it backs up the entire field so much. Play a causal round and there is a huge difference between 3 and 4. Make the product for fans better, speed up the game. If you are worried about not having enough players in the field and the purse going down, realize that with 3-somes playing faster you actually can get tee times a bit closer together and can extend them until later in the afternoon as the expected round time is less.
For Cole’s situation we should acknowledge that he did what he did and there’s power and resisting the social pressure to continue suffering. However, he seems to take very shoddy, semi-accountability, says he apologizes for “giving up” but for his second round not for actually giving up in the third. It’s just a confounding explanation all together and in the video he seems to be having fun with it, so why not have fun with the last two holes, throw crazy shots, be a good sport, idk, very strange situation.
I thought eveliina was supposed to have an interview this week
I don't count but I feel Zach when he admitted to being a slow walker.
I do my best to throw quickly though.
Yeah and I know she's me slow walkers who still keep a good pace of play overall
Putt putt meets the Midwest 😂😂
Really have to figure out the sound. It’s really taking away from how great the show could really be
I played a tournament once where someone else's caddy actually started taking over scoring while the app was down. I actually had to tell him to back off.
I mean who gives a fuk about ESPN
The foot fault call was super late too
Love the Jedi. Disc golf needs more entertainment in sports. I have seen MLB umpires who are over the top with their calls. Brodie wants disc golf to be like the uptight PGA. I don't watch the boring PGA, but the more entertaining PDGA. Lay off the volunteers. Keep the game loose and fun. There are more important issues. (slow play, DNF, etc.)
ARM CHAIR QUARTERBACK!!
Zach has always been very likeable but man he is good on the mic.
Calvin throws like a standstill. He just needs a little forward momentum to create energy
Didn’t Calvin basically win 3 similar tourneys last year as AB has so far ? Las Vegas, Texas state (silver) Jonesboro ?
Yep, and his Texas states "silver" win had a stronger strength of field than the "elite" win that McBeth had in Europe last year.
an actual DGA customer here- im not upset about coles DNF at all. but then again im sure a DG tournament does feel like prison to brodie
Prison
One thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other here.
I 100% agree with y’all talking about Cole’s DNFing. That is just bad sport on Cole’s part and I think PDGA should do something about this or at least make policies to prevent something like this in the future.
Context, May the 4th be with you
Why does it look like Calvin and Zach are in their bathrooms? 😂
Melty Beri is great!
how did brodie not mention the chase card playing so slow final round even terry Miller bought it up on the live broadcast they started 20 min before lead card
1:33:40 I have seen plenty of clips from NFL and Soccer go around via youtube and I believe even on ESPN and other channels of plays doing poses and promos from anime. Jamaal Williams from Detroit Lions pretty much made his own persona anime, with his intro promo referencing Naruto. Joey Bosa will get a sack and do the Attack on Titan salute. It's not disc golf is "weird" and these other sports aren't. It's people are "weird" and there's less people in disc golf so we see more "weirdos."
Was Silas asleep during this? Zach needed to be told his constant camera moving and rubbing his mic with what sounded like his styrofoam cup needed to stop.
i have no idea how 100% of people aren't with Brodie 100% about pace of play...
The foot fault was a very legitimate call in real time but that isn't the issue in the least. For a professional sport not to have an official or Marshall there to make an impartial call and forcing players who are all competing against each other to make calls is incredibly unprofessional and unreasonable.
I loved the jeti! It was a special occasion and everyone needs to admit discgolf is different from other sports! Obviously, we don't want anything to cheapen the sport, but we also need to set ourselves apart from everyone else.
Why not start with groups on 1 and 9? PGA tour does it all the time.
MPO first tee time tees off directly after FPO lead card. So you can't really do that until the sport is big enough that each division plays their own course. They could do it for FPO I guess to save a little time.
Did Cole redalen receive the 888 DNF and hurt rating. He admitted to quitting without injury
I would pay the DGPT and Jomez to have catch cams removed.
I think yall went to hard on cole, was he deciding to wait or leave, or had he already finished waiting?
I think this shows the FPO must come second to the MPO.
Was the plan always to stop MPO play if a play off happened?
The Cole DNF reminded me of Antonio Brown leaving mid game, taking his jersey off and joking around when he was running off the field. The only thing different is the fact that NFL is already massive and won’t set them back. Disc golf is still trying to get mass attention so something like that definitely has a setback for bringing people into the sport. Making it look like a joke and unserious. Not a great look
Matt Bell dnf'd round 2, he played through 16 then he grabbed me and we left. His shoulder was not good
brodie cut Zack out when stats came up so he could have Calvin all to himself since he's got a man crush on Calvin 😂😂😂
Thing is, Star Wars Day is huge. It’s not just for nerds anymore. That said, there should have been an official spotter marking out of bounds on that island. The Jedi would’ve just been a fun thing for the holiday.
The job the jedi did was professional. Just because he was dressed like that does not equate to delegitimizing professionalism.
It makes disc golf feel accessible for younger kids. You have lost your imagination Brodie. Sports starts as fun, and it can still be fun at the professional level.
Dudes in the bathroom 😂
Make the game look better ! Make the game look better ! Add hay bails …🤷🏼♂️
