Uli's point scale idea for the TOUR championship is absolute genius!
Dumbest argument, you wanna be a pro in a professional sport get there five minutes early. That’s your start time. Quit acting like a slack amateur disc golfer showing up for your local league.
Shoutout to Silas, clearest pod yet!
I can confirm that locals do not want to work with PDGA/DGPT when it comes to hosting a tournament. My city got to host a silver series last year and were offered to be one of the Q-Series stops this year. From what I heard, our club decided not to because it wasn’t worth working with them again, and instead are just running it as an A-Tier.
I agree with Brody here, if you’re late you’re late that’s it. Just get there early and you won’t have an issue, be a professional.
Brodie, I agree that they shouldn't have to call people for their tee times. Although you saying we're not middle schoolers is actually untrue, I played this past weekend at OTB as a middle schooler cause I won the am weekend. Love what you're doing Brodie.
We gotta make Iron Hill happen! I live close! So cool to hear Uli loves it there.
Uli: everyone sucks in the wind man. You're playing well out there.
Good show gentlemen although I was hoping Silas was gonna read the manscaped ad lmao. Brodie reading That $h|t always kills me.
Oh he DID read it!
Awesome Silas! Lmao
#rollerace💪
"You didn't hit the green dumbo" 😂
Love the discussion on course design. Moving the baskets would add challenges similar to ball golf courses moving the cup. It would definitely change course strategy and shot selection.
Great episode. Had a bunch of good laughs
Love your course design ideas. This is favorite course on your as far as course design. I agree with Brodie on forced carries, but when you have more forced carries it makes pace of play issues. The more people who don't cross on forced carries, they take more time on the next shot.
How about a slide trombone wah wah for an OB shot
This sport needs more tubas.
Brodie: Over-exaggerating about a “huge” issue with the event making assumptions about why that is.
Uli: Rarely has the same experience, and rarely makes assumptions about an “issue”
You guys balance each other out. I feel Uli needs more mic time if anything but that’s just me.
Uli's idea on Pro Tour points is great, and the new format won't screw over a player, like Calvin got screwed last year.
I mostly agree with the saxophone thoughts, I think it's kinda cool experience before someone's name is announced but know I wouldn't like it once I'm on the teepad trying to focus on my shot. He seems very talented though!
If you're early you're on time if you're on time you're late
Why don't you prerecord the ads? You could add logos, visuals, etc. Better for your sponsor and easier for you.
9:30 in Brodie says he needs to work on 300 ft upshot’s even tho he said they were easy on debate night. Bruh
Even in casual play it drives me nuts when people don't a clue what disc they are going to throw next as well as the order. Even conversating and drinking beer I still always have an idea of not only who's shot it is but also what disc I'm throwing. You don't have to always know the exact order but be thinking about your next shot at least so you are ready makes the difference in round time.
Yeah, if I hit 1st available and have worst shot I'm 1st one walking to my shot, so when I get there everyone stops instead of walking ahead by mistake and now having to walk back.
When I walk to next Tee I'm already choosing my disc. Maybe walk up to the T with two or three in my hand and think for a sec, but that is huge compared to: "Oh, is it me?" walking on the T, looking at the hole, then back to the bag, pulling a disc out, back to the Tee... then changing mind and walking back to your bag for another, lol.
Or mid hole. everyone lands in general fairway not far apart... the person that landed farthest down fairway watches 3 people throw all basically the same up shot and when they get to their lie still have no clue what disc to throw! 😆
LOL saxophone guy was Pirate Nate, who does the OTB stamp art on those MVP runs and parties on "pirate island" on hole 7 (along with Zoey of course who started announcing all the cards as they came through which was hella fun)
If youre 7 seconds late for your 30 second window at your tee time, its the same penalty. Why does it matter if its 5 minutes or 0 minutes? Literally just show up!
it's weird hearing pros waiting till the last possible second to show up to their tee
@@shamanschlong Right?? "Dang, I got a 2 stroke penalty, I need start heading there 5 mins and 45 seconds instead of 5 minutes and 15 seconds before my tee-time ". So weird... is 5 more minutes of sleep going to help you that night or something? You can't go to bed 5 minutes earlier? I'd get the complaints if it was 15, but....
@@danimal519 AMs out here showing up 15 minutes early, but relentless bitching from "professionals" lol
Great job Silas
1:39:31 810.D It is a violation if a player or their equipment interferes with the course of their own thrown disc. The throw and one penalty throw are counted in the player's score; the player continues play from the previous lie. Any other penalty throws incurred by the throw are disregarded. If a throw is interfered with by request of the thrower, that is considered the same as a player interfering with their own throw.
So actually if she was saying to the diver to catch it and he did then she should actually be penalized
Where are your player rankings after every tournament? And where is picking three people who are going to win? Best parts of show gone
Let’s go!!!! @brodie showin Des Moines some LOVE!!!
The fans don’t forget about Simon.
I personally would just rather see Northwoods be the permanent champions cup and ledgestone go back to just playing lake eureka. Ledgestone hasn’t had the same feel since adding Northwoods
Wow camp laurel south. I live in maine and we had a program every summer to bring them donuts from dunkin.
I can't believe they're still bickering over the being late to you tee time nonsense. The line has to be drawn somewhere and it's clearly been drawn. You're either late or you're not. It's not that complicated. Also it's not that hard to be on time. Sure the unexcepted can occasionally happen, but that's why you take the curtesy to be early and when the unexpected happens you're on time instead of late.
I bet if they made the penalty 20 strokes instead of 2, no one would ever be even remotely close to being late for any reason whatsoever. Take accountability and stop being lazy/unprofessional.
Interesting thing about Uli's fountain hills story is im pretty sure that was a misplay to take it ob. If the guy interfered inbounds the option is that spot or rethrow w/o penalty. Madison didn't misplay since taking it as ob is an option for her.
The problem is with the pro tour. They are counting on revenue from spectators tickets. A large percentage of the really good courses that would be good for majors are on public lands that do not allow closing areas of their park so the dgpt can charge entry fees for spectators. It’s my understanding that this is an issue regarding the Iron Hill course.
It seems like bushes should be a disc golf equivalent of sand bunkers and ball golf. In ball golf, The sand bunker gives you awkward footing and different ball flight to get out of so the ball won't go as far. In discgolf, a Bush makes footing hard sometimes and also the flight of your disc has to change to get around, over, or under the bush. so I would say bushes near the green and on the faiway should be placed in disc golf the same way that sand bunkers are placed in ball golf.
taking out dead vegetation and making the outside look good is very satisfying fo sho Brodie
Lol my Dad is a landscaper so I've been doing that shit since I was 10 years old. Very gratifying
I like all players keeping score. I experienced a C tier in 2022 where two friends quickly volunteer keeping score. Then, at the end of the tournament it appeared they were shaving strokes for each other.
It feels like the PDGA is failing to remove barriers for Tournement Directors to host larger tournaments, A and B teir events. Local representative of the PDGA or State Run Tours take such a large cut of Player Fees that tournaments directors would rather create more local C Teirs, just so they can keep the money their fundraising local and put more of it into the event and into the local courses. The $10 fee for non-members that TDs pay, the procccesing fee that DiscGolfScene takes, all the hands that pull from the same pot. I can only imagine these same barriers exist at the highest level when communities are questioning hosting Pro Tour level events. If the local disc golf presidents running these events for years see these issues, would it really be surprising for city officials and local chambers to run into and trip over the exact same barriers. Great thought, Brodie, on holding accountability.
Was a great round, was stoked for Calvin, would of been happy if any of the other guys won.
Keeping score doesn't take that long. It's more the overthinking of obvious shots that should be routine. But, 200 ft in the open with no wind...gotta get out the rangefinder! Thinking about their next shot when they get to their disc instead of while walking up to it...and then, again, overthinking it.
Then again, you have people rated mid 900s and lower playing an elite series event. There needs to be a floor for entry.
Madison put out a post and said she told the guy to grab the disc if she shanks it, before she threw it. So I don't see the interference rule coming in to play. Interfere makes sense though. What about that time a volunteer got in the way of someone's throw that could have skipped back in boumds?! I can't remember the player or tournament, but everyone commented on it. It was the one the volunteer was with the camera guy straight down the fairway. That could have definitely been a situation they would be able to re-throw.
I love Iron Hill!!!
Let's hear the love for Andrew Miranda! Top 30 still in high school.....
Idea, change manufacturer cup to sponsorship cup and have no sponsor be a category, eg gavin
what I have been learning playing in the wind is to use heavier discs, and throw low ( keep it 3-5 feet off the ground ) and if I am more than 25 feet away putting, just lay it up
Love sticking up for the Utah locals (I'm not one of them) as I loved the Fort Worlds and you're right it wasn't the volunteer group's fault.
Regarding pace of play. Idk if it's fair to make a broad statement that everybody needs to speed up. I've done live stats at 4 events now on lower cards and watched them get in horrible spots. Also time spent looking for discs. Everyone keeping score does not slow down play. As a matter of fact, this year, with PDGA live score, you know if someone put in a wrong score. That includes the 5th person (stat keeper). Scoring isn't the issue.
Summer camp for Brodie......see Meatballs the movie...lol
Did no one else hear Milton drop the F-bomb on hold 4 after they finish putting talking about Macbeth😂😂
Sometimes i get the feeling that Brodie makes fun of disc golf like the morons on sports center. Holds ball golf to such a high standard, but we are 1:34:00 just throwing a frisbee into a basket
I played the BSF Am and Masters event this past weekend, and I knew who my cardmates were, and what order..so you telling me you guys don't know your cardmates, or tee order? Shows it right there on PDGA live scorecard..lol.
Reach out to John Biscoe out of Virginia. He hosted the US Women's championship a couple years ago. Don't know if that's what you're looking for but he's not going to sugar coat it.
I dont know about other sports, but i have seen in soccer fans run on to the field and block shots from going in goal and they dont do anything about it. there no "free" goal for the interference. My question is, what if you throw your shot on a blind hole, know its a bad shot, but then you get to the basket and its in the basket, but you never heard chains. there is a thought that someone put it in the basket when you couldnt see. does that count as an ace? what if all 4 people on the card agree there was no way it could have gone in? does that change it?
We need timestamps boys.
1:25 start time
5 DNFs in MPO, 0 in FPO??? But why?
24:07 OTB review
I agree with Uli about Milo. I played the BSF Am tournament this past wknd and it is GORGEOUS, but the course doesn't use the full potential of that area. Don't get me wrong, there are some really memorable holes, but overall I was disappointed with the design. I'm free to help if they want it.
I thought I was the only one who thought this after playing there. You drive down this giant hillside and never play on it; the course is relatively flat. Then you start out and play near, but not close enough to be a part of the hole, an amazing river. I left feeling like it was untapped potential while still being a good course. A lot of similar shots out there.
@@hillsdalemc it's probably best to not have rivers as obstacles
Rule should be 1 stroke per minute over because seconds are different than minutes. So why would everyone get 2 strokes when one delays the card much more.
I don't get why the concept of being late even has to be talked about. most people that have jobs, the jobs have a point system. if I have to be there at 6:30 I have until 6:30:59 to clock in, if you clock in even 1 second after that at 6:31 you get a point... like we all have jobs, his just happens to be disc golf. do better, don't be late. its not a hard concept to grasp even high schools have the same shit come in late to many times, then you get detention.
Theory on playing in the wind; like NASCAR loose is fast and on the edge your out of control (days of thunder). czcams.com/video/fZU22ZPEpOE/video.html. To me, as a relative newbie and AM it feels like wind is an equalizer as some of the guys I play with, that out throw me, in the wind are more out of control. If I turn something over in the wind it's 30 feet off target, if my buddy Jake turns one over in the wind it is 75 feet off target. On a calm day he will beat me by 7 strokes every time, on a windy day I can compete. If Uli playes as well as he does on a calm day at the edge of control, does it make sense that on a windy day some of that control would be gone? Thoughts?
The problem with Niche sports is you really only get people watching who play. Need to figure out what would make someone tune in who doesn't play.
If you want holes to not have the issue of only getting a bogie when going for birdie, the baskets need to be smaller. Putting is too easy, the height of the chains AND the width of the cage need to be reduced to about 2 disc lengths. Then you don't have the issue of saving par by playing safe.
2 disc lengths??? They aren't 2 disc lengths at all in the first place.... Did you mean links ?
@@shawnmanson6193 The cage is wider than 2xdiamater of a disc. It should be reduced
I like the jedi and the sax. Sports try to trade culture and silliness for professionalism, but a balance is achievable. I like disc golf because of the culture. We aren't golf. That sport is gatekept, expensive, and bloated.
There’s no way these wild stories are real
Bruh. Way to go with the spoiler in the title.
Yeah, I really hate it when sports media announces winners. Especially 48 hours after the event ended. 🙄
just plat ready play
People lose their jobs for showing up to work late. How the F are you all so whiny about 5 minutes. Here's a thought. They post your tee times and you all have to be at the tee ready to go at your tee time like you all want, but the starter then takes whatever time he needs to update you all if needed and then you tee off. So maybe now you're teeing off 5 minutes later than your tee time. Would that make everyone happy?
I honestly didnt like watching 4 rounds at northwood.... But inalso dont think the OTB course is the answer
I'm starting to realize why beast shit canned all these foundation jokers.
"I show up on Thursday, just need one practice round". And they wonder why they never see the top 30, then complain constantly about courses that the field is dominating
What?
By beast you must mean yo mama
I totally see your angle.
I love how Brodie doesn't mention his "taking a break to train" announcement in this video and still has complaints about anything but his own game. Especially after dishing it out to Cole. (Maybe this was filmed before he made the announcement, but still. Why anyone is still listening to this dude is beyond me.)
Why doesn't this pudcast use Uli's old Down The Fairway floormat? You do the show while downing The Fairway, your trademark 5-shot drink, til you're passed out on your show themed floormat?
sounds good to me!!
I think you all should include FPO in the manufacture cup cus latitude would be up there and after spectating perssimon ridge a tier with good pros there and Jonesboro the week after. I feel FPO players are growing the sport at a faster rate now days
46:52 Silas in true form!
🪒
"Its like having a magician in the bathroom"
Put that on the list of things you thought youd never hear.
Saxaphone + music = no
Be either or is fine
I seriously hate the Manscaped ad reads so much. I would never buy anything from them.
They make a great product and supply an easy way to take care of oneself.
@ADamItalian1173 I do just fine with the trimmer I already have. Those Ads are the worst. Not buying their stuff....
It's so terrible it's almost good. Lol
I mean .... "It's like having a magician in your bathroom"
Really
It's fuckin pubic hair were talking about.
No one cares
sounds like Brodie doesn't have his bag set.... gotta know your discs! stop changing out your bag!
You should be able to be on the tee at your tee time and not the stupid 5 minute rule. For saying everything is like the PGA, they just show up by their assigned tee time.
Might take you seven seconds to walk over if you were waiting 50ft. away.. 🤷♂️
Saxophone gotta go
the pdga should have gone away with AOL and blockbuster. also ratings are stupid. but at least the pdga staff get to make 6 figs a year for shuffling their paper records
elo ask that guy
Not sure if you guys realize this. It's unfortunate. The manager at your local taco bell nets more per year than both of you net playing disc golf. The two of you fortunately have others in your life that fund you... even if yall ever won a tournament, which you won't...ever...you still wouldn't make more than the taco bell manager. Miss be lovely to have rich families to support your hobbies
You’re vastly overestimating how much money Taco Bell employees make.
Having a supportive family is a benefit.
It’s easy to save money when they can live rent free in your head all day
Having a rich family is awesome. You should try it sometime ☺️
Uli has over $ 356,000 in earnings!!
A little disappointing that neither of them knew what the WGE was.
Disappointed on the WGE though, not them. You dont know what you dont know..
I have never heard of that either. They aren’t playing FPO, why should they care. Do you think all NBA players know everything going on in the WNBA?
The only time I hear of WGE is when someone is complaining about others not knowing about it.
Regarding disc golf being just "throwing a frisbee in a basket"... you can make that arguement against any other sport... "people hitting a little ball with a stick to put it in a little hole", " tossing a beanbag into a piece of plywood", "driving a car around an oval for 5 hours", etc. Trouble is, these other sports make themselves relevant somehow. For some reason, disc golf apologizes for itself. Maybe if the guys got a haircut and shaved would help. No point in making it look like a hippie/mountain man game.
Let’s chat about the commentary dress code . If we trying to grow the sport why are we dressed like hippies?
How would that help grow the sport? And can we stop saying grow the sport?
I really don’t understand why Brodie has such a platform.
I understand Uli. He’s a Captain of a huge DG company. But Brodie doesn’t even have relevance in DG. It’s almost they keep trying to sell him based off his Dude Perfect stuff.
It’s really kinda annoying.
But it’s all about money. And they need clicks.
Brodie livin rent free in your head.
What’s the difference from overseas tournament for ULi he killed it
Funny take. It is his podcast on his channel you are watching. If he's not your style that's different, not like he is being interviewed on DGN every week, but he is playing in the tournaments and is quite good at disc golf so...
Your ignorance is annoying.
🤣🤣🤣 award for dumbest comment goes to you! This is the best disc golf podcast out there. By FAR. You prob like the 2 biggest douche bags on the Upshot. Lol
You guys seriously didn't know about WGE??? And you consider yourselves professionals in this sport? Shame............
Take it easy on them. I support the Women's game as much as I can. I didn't know....
1. they are not female 2. They are professionals.... wge is mainly for am women, this is the first time a pro tour event was included.
Most people don't care about women's disc golf. Especially when men are playing with them.
You do realize it’s way less common for players of the sport to keep up with every little detail like fans do?
Wow you never heard of this incredibly niche thing??? Instead of informing you, I'm going to shame you. Surely, that will help spread the word.
I can give a shit if Kristen tattar is in the field or not . honestly can care less and I'm a pro subscriber
