It goes forward off quins 16 hands and then the ref instantly gives a penalty the other way. Mad decision. Cant deny the class of Smith. Him and Robson should be at 9 and 10 this summer or I might have to picket outside Twickenham at this rate 😂
At 0:30? You can clearly hear Barnes call “backwards” when the Quins 16 handles it. Then Wasps 4 blatantly dived off his feet, directly in front of Barnes. The ref instantly gives it because it is as clear-cut a penalty as you’ll see. Nothing mad about it.
To your other point, I also desperately want to see Smith & Robson for England, what an electric combo that could be.
BTW, and I don’t like to pick on an individual player, Wasps 4 Rowlands, at the very next play (2:35) gave away an even more stupid penalty. Dallaglio puts it down to fatigue, which may be a fair shout, but that’s two blatant penalties conceded in alarmingly quick succession when they had the game in the bag.
@@vonteflon I know the ref thought it was backwards. But it was clearly forwards for me. Sadly he got the call wrong from the angles he could see it from. But he is still one of the best refs in the prem. So im not that annoyed, as sometimes decisions like that happen. But yeah hopefully Eddie will pick them both!

“He got the call wrong from the angles he could see it from” - Barnes was exactly in line with the play and had the best possible angle to view and make a judgement. All other angles are irrelevant.
