  • Hi everyone! Come along on this trip as a go for my first solo lake trout fishing trip. I end up having some fun trying to land these fish by myself and get a surprise fish.

    I fish mostly by myself on lake huron ( out of Harrisville and oscoda) . Last year was awesome for lakers and steelhead even walleye. It was a strange year , most all my steelhead were way up high even in 120fow to 150fow , I caught several between 5 an 10ft below the surface. My best walleye fishing was august in 120fow between 80 and 90 ft down using big spoons . The bite was best 30 minutes before sunset and right after sunrise. Crazy year but it was alot of fun. Good luck , great videos.

    My dad always taught me..if your rod is parallel with the horizon you'll lose fish more often. Tip up son!!

      Thanks for checking us out! Lakers are lots of fun. I'm trying to figure out a good recipe for cooking them though.

      I love rainbows and other trout but lakers are really greasy. I tried them on the grill and they weren't too bad. Have to dry them out a little.

    Question for you... When you are solo and bringing in a fish what is keeping the boat going straight? I'm just getting into salmon trolling this next season with a new (to me) boat. 19 foot Starcraft with main and a kicker. Planning on tying the kicker to the main steering with a tie bar. I'll be doing some solo fishing and I need to figure out a way to pull it off without dumping a bunch of money on autopilot. Thanks for the answer and great job on your videos.
    Edit: I just saw your i-pilot remote hangin off your belt. I assume the kicker is pushing and the TM is steering. Right?

    • @fish-itis9469
      @fish-itis9469  Před 3 lety

      Thanks so much for watching the video and taking the time to ask a question! Yes, I use the I-pilot to steer the boat now, but didn't always have that. If you look at some of my videos when I didn't have it, I have to constantly adjust the wheel while bringing the fish in. A challenge to say the least, especially with salmon! Add some wind and waves and it makes it really hard. It's almost impossible to slow down but really hard to bring big salmon in that way. I invested in the I-pilot for this reason and also to "anchor" when fishing for other species.

      Hi Moondog. The lake was definitely pretty that morning. You don't get to fish the big water when it's glass too often. Nope, same old Yamaha. Thanks for watching!

    I love to watch people downrigger fish. I also love it when my release is set correctly and my rod snaps up .
    I suggest that you loosen your line release a tad. You won’t be loosing fish so often Sir.Just saying......

    • @fish-itis9469
      @fish-itis9469  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes! Thank you for that. I don't like losing them either. I'm used to salmon which take it off pretty hard. I'll try rigging the releases looser the next time. Thanks for watching!
