- The plaintiff says he had known the defendant since she was 17 and thought nothing of lending her money. She still hasn’t repaid him, so he’s suing. The defendant says she and the co-defendant let the plaintiff stay at their place and he never paid rent.
Case #24-062
He took advantage of them but they let him
Yes, they did.
People take advantage of people when they can
@@mercedesmaltese4407 That's a sad way to think. My cc wasn't working at self checkout 2 days ago and the guy working the self checkout used his own BoA card to pay for my $4 item. It was so kind and made me rethink that not everyone is out to get you. (He told me just to pay it forward)
Damn, if I was staying rent-free like that, I'd let the $1,000 be a gift.
But you're a rare breed, my friend. I say the same thing. I wouldn't dare sue a friend who always holds me down in a place to rest my head no questions asked. He made himself look like a POS.
@@aprilpinketon2567 y'all must of been the ones who borrow money a lot lol
Exactly I’m a truck driver too, It’s pointless to rent an apartment if you’re always on the road so it’s really nice to stay with friends and family when you can A thousand bucks we make that in a couple days
He was such a turd lol I think this case was around 2014-ish and my rent at that time was over $700. Not bad at all but $1k for multiple months is a STEAL. And he kept saying "hard earned money"... like wtf you think your friends are paying rent with bro 😆
Facts
One of the first times I actually heard a genuine defense from a defendant on why they didn’t believe they owe the money back. I mean I don’t blame her for thinking it was a wash.
The plaintiff is very selfish, his hard earned money should pay for his own place instead of couch surfing
If his own Father kicked him out.. that's a red flag.
I’m a truck driver, it’s silly to rent a place if your always on the road, it’s way easier if you have friends and family to help you out with a place when you’re on your hometime instead of getting a hotel. He should of called it square, what a dick
I guess that now he will have to pay hotels cause he just burned 2 bridges. 🤷🏻♀️
I find it interesting that the defendants asked the show not to mention their last names, yet at 7:13 you can see them as clear as day on that sheet of paper.
Nice!! Seems like they would have a case to sue the People's Court!
Him: it's hard earn money. Me: and theirs wasnt?.. he really took advantage of them..
Literally my exact thought when watching this!
THEY ALLOWED IT
@@WonderingHead exactly, the way I see it is that you shouldn't give money as a loan or gift , if you expect it back or need it back , because most likely if someone has to borrow money they don't have it to pay it back , some people can be trusted to pay it back , some can't or won't pay it back . My mom lends out money to my brother and sister and always says she wants her money back , but they never pay it back , then she complains of not getting it back , but still lends it out, some people never learn a thing .
Totally baffled
@@ebonyeyed08ti I never lend money. I give the money if I have it and tell the person not to make it a habit. And no I'm not rolling in dough.
The irony is the next time he's injured on the job (God forbid) he's going to have to pay out more money to stay somewhere like an extended stay or hotel and pay for his own food and utilities rather than relying on the kindness of his family and friends who he could have just helped out by letting them keep the $1,000. Invest in your personal relationships. You may need them one day.
I like the when you said " Invest in your personal relationships" Life doesn't always go as planned. Well said!!!
Exactly!
As someone who works with the elderly and a witness to their burials in New York's Potter's Field with unmarked graves because they didn't have family & friends,"investing in relationships" is very wise.
I mean they're dumb to let him live off of them. Only bc ppl in this day and age are pos. But, he's just as dumb to screw over friends who always took him in no questions asked. I would never let him rest his head one minute in my home after this shady move.
Plaintiff is a free loader. Stay at a motel if you don't have your own home.
He would've been living in his truck. He's going to get his, he's shady for living rent free and not paying anything. I would've let them have the $1000 and told them not to ask to borrow anything else.
Especially since he crashed at their house often over many years. The $1,000 was the least he could do.
You know you stayed with them for months, taking advantage of them so you wouldn't have to pay your fair share. You didn't just take advantage of her, but also her family whenever you were in need... and yet you had the gall to sue?? I hope none of them associated with you again after the lawsuit. Your dad threw you out for a reason. You have a very flawed way of thinking and of being fair.
They owe him the money but he is dead wrong!
Plaintiff might have won his case but next time he needs help he might not get so lucky.
Why would he ever want to go to them again? Steve pretty much shown who they are and the quality of people they are.
@@LawsonPatterson Yeah, the quality that let a man freeload off them and eat up their food for 3-4months. There's a reason why he kept going back, freeloading off of them, whenever his father kicked him out (even his father didn't want anything to do with him).
It's never a good idea to lend anyone money it will always be a problem and never let a able bodied adult live in your house for free.
They say he was injured.
Many times.
He also drives OTR they arent 'home' often
Injured or not, if you can afford to loan out over a thousand dollars, you can take care of yourself.
@@JohnMcGuirk-mo3id EXACTLY! ALSO THE FACT HE LIVED WITH HIS FATHER BEFORE LIVING OFF HIS FRIENDS (FOR FREE!) I'M SURE HE DIDN'T PAY HIS OWN FATHER MUCH MONEY TO STAY THERE. KNOWING HOW CHEAP HE IS, PROBABLY NEVER PAID HIS FATHER ANY RENT EITHER!
I CANNOT STAND USER'S LIKE THIS! SO DISGUSTING, WHAT A LOWLIFE 😡😒
The plaintiff is technically correct and he is owed that money however he obviously lacks a conscience and morals it is shocking that he's willing to stay at somebody's home for week 2 weeks 3 weeks and possibly even months if the defendant is correct and I'm inclined to believe her cuz she never said she didn't know the money. And this man thinks it's appropriate to stay at somebody's home rent free and maybe buy a little bit of groceries like utilities don't exist in a mortgage doesn't need to be paid what a disgusting cheapskate
“You know, you know, you know.”
- Plaintiff
Never loan anybody money, You can't afford to give away. The best way to end a friendship, is to loan money.
Like the man on the street said, plaintiff and defendant should have put it in writing him staying in their home & NOT paying rent will represent payment for the $1000 loan.
Ppl need to not assume that one favor will offset another. Even if it seems fair. Have those discussions so everything is clear. He’s owed, but he’s very ungrateful too. Let him figure it out on his own next time he’s homeless.
Exactly nicely said
Exactly right
This is a weird situation. Clearly nothing JM could do with that promissory note they signed. But what a shitty friend to live rent free for months and then sue them!! Also he’s a whole grown man why was he living with his father then bouncing from house to house smh
If he lived in California or NYC, it's super common because how expensive the price of living is.
@@naiadolling what? :)))) get a job and pay your bills…. millions of others are in the same two states.
@@Djkommode You obviously do not live in NYC or California or else you wouldn't have said that. I know people who make $100k/yr and still have roommates or live with their family because after taxes (NYC has state, city, and federal taxes on top of other things), rent, utilities, and other adult responsibilities $100k/yr easily dwindles down to the equivalent of $30k/yr, not even that if that you have children. Some people have to work 2-4 jobs in the city just to scrape by, especially with rent going up astronomically.
@@Djkommode And there are millions of others who have roommates or still live at home in those same two states. It's actually super common 💀💀
@@naiadolling millions of us Californians say otherwise and your “common” statistic is none existant. Get a job lacky.
“You’re not picking up what I’m putting down.”🫣
Gold. 👏🏼🙌🏽✨😂👍🏼
For the sake of $1000, he's burned off a friendship that has helped him through some tough times. He's the real loser here.
This case exemplifies why it's never a good idea to loan money. If anything you should gift it instead so theres no anticipation of being payed back because all this loaning shit ends with relationships destroyed.
Well, it could have simply been a case of "no hard feelings, I just want the loan repaid." However, he is a freeloader when it comes to permanent housing. Playing it both ways like that is really what got him in a bind in this case.
@7:52 love how the Hispanic slipped there 😂
I hate when people say “I’m too nice” or “I have a good heart”. It has nothing to do with that. Learn to set some boundaries for god sake
Just assume that when someone gives you money it's a loan. And if someone is kind enough to help you out in your moment of need, then have the goodness in your heart to pay them back...
If you gonna help somebody , that's help. If u gonna change them , that's not help , that's something else. And if u wanna be paid for your help then u better have it in writing same how he had promisery note from them
They asked for their last names not to me mentioned and BAM. The show zooms in on the paper with their last names. If I were them I would sue for breach of contract/failure to protect ones identity
I'm 2 minutes in..if he says "you know" one more time
If you let someone live rent free in your home, that means rent free. No payment needed. Why are people dumber in todays day and age, than 150 years ago?
It's not that people are dumber now it's that more people feel entitled now.
@@clifffischer4409 I don't understand this "entitled" attitude most have
@@delenareed9731 nor do I
It's not about whether it was rent free. It's about honor and integrity. He has none.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Happy Thursday, everyone 🌻
She insisted that he lived with her from November to March, then on her way out claims he stayed for a few weeks . ....
She is mocking his testimony.
I wouldn't give him shit! He didn't give them money for staying at their house!
Hope karma repays him with taxes and interest. Free loading on their *hard earned* money without paying his fair share of his. This may well be the reason his father put him out. He's a man-boy and needs to stand on his own two feet.
The plaintiff was a real jerk. No wonder he and his dad didn’t get along. They owe him because they borrowed but he definitely owes them. Let him be homeless next time or draw up a lease agreement. Learn from him that business is business.
He probably was holding the pen for her to sign with his right hand and had the pasta fork in his left hand. 🤣
I don't know how he managed to wrench that fork out of Petunia's hand.
Let him take his winnings and get his own place. !!
I mean morally he shouldn’t be suing them. That’s probably why his dad don’t fool with his behind. He’s a moocher. I would not be suing someone who provided a roof over my head and food
if there was not an agreement for rent of other household goods, they can not come back later and try to charge. if they agreed to the loan and to pay it baxk, they have to pay it back
It was a loan, but the plaintiff needs to use his hard earned money to get his own place or stay in a hotel. I believe he should’ve gave them some credit towards the loan for staying with them and maybe only asked for half, but I wouldn’t have sued and ruined a friendship over 1k.
They asked for 300 but agreed on 150 rent from the beginning why did everyone forget that
The plaintiff was a mooch
We don't know the back story!! ... He's also their live-in drug dealer, ... before you call him selfish
If it was me he certainly wouldn't be staying at my house again. They did owe him the money but he is no friend who sponges off them and doesn't pay rent. They were stupid not to charge him because rent over a few months would probably be more than the loan.
Don’t let people live w you🤷🏻♀️
Which is more irritating, “it is what it is” or “you know what I mean ?”
why saying he had nowhere to go, why doesn't he know he could stay at motels? you borrow you pay.
but he should definitely have given them some money.
@@marilynwillett804 ,

What a selfish man
You can't HELP Everybody
Defendants are being slimy so they dont have to pay payback anything
Wow he’s a user don’t call me a friend
Well he just burnt a bridge
Sad case
A loan is a loan and supersedes the payment for rental expenses.
Now we know why his Dad kicked him out...
Lol at the lady sleep behind the defendants. They are boring her
It should be a wash.
People should feel embarrassed coming up on here
I kinda feel like he didn’t agree to pay. He looked super surprised when she said they did. Still shitty friend
ppl like that will use u for money.and never paid it back
I'm confused here. You borrow money from a homeless guy. Right when I thought My life was shit
He played them their fault.

He keep saying his hard heard money.so his friends money .so Thay didn't work hard
Shampoo they lying already
😂 the light was shining on his head when I read this.
JM is very nosey
They allowed it!😬
23rd. Woo Hoo
Know what I mean?
The female defendant didn't want to be filmed; why you're on national TV? Whenever someone doesn't want to use their entire name or business in court, something is shady.
You’re a psycho it’s not that deep if someone doesn’t want to use their entire name it’s cause they don’t want people to look them up and harass them or their business or make prank calls etc. there’s literally nothing shady about wanting privacy
Or they just like their privacy...
@@jcymngo How is there "Privacy" being protected, when their mugs were not only in the original episode, but in perpetuity to watch and rewatch online?
Personally I remember peoples faces as much as I do their names, so them not sharing their names could ultimately mean squat, if people remember their faces!
The plaintiff had a strong case
The plaintiff is a moocher.
Some people will come up with any excuse to avoid paying their debts. The Friendship obviously means nothing to her, or at least it means less than $1000.
No comments I'm first 🥇 for once let's see what this case is about
Jesus never mentioned the part where the good samaritan retroactively charged the man for food, clothes and medical treatment. When you have 1100 to loan out, you should be able to get your own place, but it's still a lame thing to do for such a "nice and trusting person".
you realize that never happened, it just a nice story and its quite a bigot position.
