Yup don't be too concerned about the macroeconomic situation (layoffs, etc.) There's always companies looking for jobs. Don't be offput that there doesn't seem to be enough jobs for everybody, you're only looking for a job for yourself.

Agreed. Working since 2 years in industry now. Tried interviewing at google and adobe. Both made me learn that I am good with UX, good with visual, but to be at Mid-senior level in these companies I need to get more into front end and motion design. Did so too, in last 6 months.
Companies are not hiring for what we are right now, they hire us for what we can be if we spent 6 months in that company.

(Previous graphic design/web person lol) My goals for next year are to get more confident in my craft and move closer to senior level designer. I'm planning to read a lot, especially the UX books I already have that just sit on my bookshelf. It's gonna be a productive design year!

I think in my perspective, I have accepted the fact the best way to go about landing a job in UX is through an internship to gain that necessary experience. I am a current Doctor of Business Administration student currently taking Advance statistics for research, Quantitative research design, and Qualitative research design. With research being such a crucial part of UX - maybe, just MAYBE I could land a entry level UX research position or UX generalist position at some small company. In addition, for my program, I have to do a dissertation and my topic focuses on UX and rather Small Businesses should invest. Down the road, after I gain experience, I would like to potentially become a UX consultant/freelancer for small businesses. For now, I think my goal is to pursue an internship. I am even considering reaching out to individuals in the UX world to even do job shadowing - this can also be beneficial to put on a resume. I wish you all the best

Great advice but I still can't seem to find my way around it. So, I am a 28 year old architect with a master's degree in industrial design from one of the top universities in Turkey. Also, I never had a job and am still unemployed. I don't have an architecture portfolio because I didn't like it very much, resulting in me spending little effort on my projects. I graduated with a 2.7 GPA (design studios DD-CC and every other class AA) and hated my designs throughout undergrad. I figured I wouldn't be an architect so I didn't even bother to prepare a portfolio. Then I tried industrial design.
I got accepted to a master's program in a prestigious university (how i did it beats me). Graduated with a GPA of 4.0, with my professors saying I should pursue an academic career since I am really suited for it. I hard passed since reading and writing stuff have never excited me although I am pretty good at it. Anyway the program leaned much more towards academic work rather than actual design work, so I can't bring a portfolio together for industrial design as well. Although, it really broadened my horizon on design and that's how I came across UX/UI design.
Currently, I am training myself to become a UX/UI designer, spending my days in Figma and CZcams videos but have very little hope of success. I don't think I am a good designer, even after spending 8 years in training, and everything I try to put together seems ugly to me. I am getting old for my first job and have no idea how long it will take me before I can prepare a portfolio that will get me hired. I am engaged and getting married in 10 months ffs... I need a job.

Hi Aliena! Thank you for sharing these informations!
I been really enjoying your contents and I wanted to know more about your product designing experience before you got into the ux design field.
When did you actually started designing?
I know from your other video that you majored in computer science but I don't remember any video mentioning your designing experience background.
It would be helpful to hear how far you were with your designing skills and tools you mastered beforehand to get a sense of what I need to study more.
I am a second case person who is majoring in completely different field(plant biology).
As I was studying my masters degree, I realized I do not have any interest in this field.
However, coding and visualizing my data gave me a lot of joy and it lead me to think if I really dedicate to studying ux design maybe I can finally have a career which I can love and throw myself into.
I always loved art but did not had a gut to follow my love.
I finally decided to pursue my love after I finish school in upcoming February.
Like you already said, I do not have portfolio, so I am planning to first take the online courses then apply to a university with UX major in US for a MS degree.
Your channel have been so helpful and inspiring as I venture into ux designing field and I cannot wait to hear more from you.

Taking the courage to make a bold statement and say, hey, you know what? I would like to ask a question. How do you decide the size of UI elements such as buttons, font size, input field, icon etc? Do we have to look at design systems and follow the guidelines for different devices? If so, can you maybe for your upcoming video in the future, shows us how to best utilize the design systems for your own design? I couldn't find any specific video or tutorial on this matter. What if we don't have a design background, but still want to be a UX Designer?

I would suggest to put extra hardwork on UI design, to bring out the best portfolio. Also I would suggest trying to find real life projects as early as possible to get the experience of working for projects that will be launched.
