the best story of a team not escaping a group was Senegal in the 2018 world cup group stage. Senegal vs Japan was the tie and ended in the same points, a head to head draw, GD and GF were the same so they went to yellow and red cards which sent japan through 4-6 because senegal had two more yellow cards throughout the group stage. Basically Japan went through because they were fairer on the field (fair play ruling)
Also they were stalling on time vs Poland (Japan that is) cuz they knew if the other game finished as it was they were through, which led to Kuba Błaszczykowski missing a game in this wc cause no opportunity for a sub happened in like last 15 minutes.

Andy, a suggestion for the bronze discard thing could be to cap bronze discard rates at a certain level. That way bronze discards arent worthless but it isnt as expensive as the main player

The logic behind not discarding the expensive player that gets guessed I still think should be the player that was supposed to be in the position. Its not exciting if someone has to discard a bronze player and thats the gamble. FIFIA is a video game and its total RNG so even if your player gets guessed, you could win the game. But if you lose you might have to discard 200 coins? Not a big fan of that but to each their own.
