- I wanted to try a new style for my winter rims, and instead of pinting them i wrapped them in vinyl, Costs about $10 a rim. www.ebay.ca/itm/321097538225 This short video shows you how to wrap a rim quickly(sped up 3x), There really is no downfall to doing this, faster and cheaper then painting, the vinyl only weighs .4 ounces or about 50 grams. and thats spread out throughout the rim and if you dont like it then just peal it off. If you want more info or you want to buy some vinyl contact me at portabuddy@gmail.com Or come contact me at 8thcivic.com please don't send a message though youtube, I don't come here often.

I love how someone takes the time to show everyone how to do something neat (out of the goodness of their heart) and people have to cut him down? Why all the haters? Give this guy a break!!!
Thank you very much for showing us how this is done. Keep up the good work. The wheels came out great.
Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. I needed to know how to push the vinyl down in between the spokes. All the professional wrappers I’ve seen only seem to be wrapping the face of the flat spokes which is super easy but mine have curved spokes and a curve in between the spokes. Thanks.
Yes literally
Best rim wrap video on here. If you want your hood..spoiler.mirrors..face of rims videos are a dime a dozen...you nailed this video wrapping the whole rim inside out..ty ty ty.
I didn't think that it would look good ,but it does and you did a damn good job applying it .
That's an awesome job! I've done some carbon fibre wrap on my mc, those complex curves are a challenge for sure. I think you'd be happier with the wheel on a workbench rather than the floor.
Felt like I was at a disco lol. Good job in a complete transformation of the rims.

Hi there do you use some kind of adhesive first?
Pretty sure the vinyl I bought has adhesive on the reverse anyway but would I need more?
Everything i bloody own is now wrapped in this stuff i cant stop!.
but it dose look good:)
i'm amazed on how much the vinyl stretches..
very nice
How are they holding up? Nice work!!!
they are doin fine
how they doin now?
@@sriavula i think they are doing fine
@@fiftyphonkartist thats good to hear cuz I might do this
@@fiftyphonkartisthow are they now?
I've been looking for a good video like this!! Every freaking vinyl wrapper only does the face of the wheel, and other plasti dip. Thank you!
Awesome dude! Thank you for taking the time to put this up they look GREAT! :D
Just wanted to come back and say thanks for the video. It showed me loads. Ive now had a go at vinyl wrapping some motorcycles parts. Very effective. Cannot believe how pliable this vinyl is.
And for all those arguing the toss over how long vinyl will last, wtf, its vinyl, cheap as chips, replace it the following year for a colour change dudes! Get a grip :)
Cheers agains fellas. Respect.
+Spit Polish Thanks dude, glad it helped. its been up for a while.

Great video. I'm surprised how many bad comments there are about using vinyl. Good 3M vinyl can last 5+ years on a daily driver, and longer on a car not left out in the sun or driven in bad weather. It's relatively cheap and not that hard to do, provided you watch a couple dozen youtube videos by the pros. And if you really mess up a piece, just pull it off and do it over again. I bought a bunch of small samples on ebay in order to see how the colors looked on my car and also to experiment to see how much body prep was required before wrapping. I'm working on the car now and it's not as hard as I initially thought.
You guys heard it straight from John Squires!
Its a touch different for the wheels though. Brake heat, curb rash, road grime and salts, etc. Wheel vinyl wont last nearly as long as on a smooth large panel. That said, as you mentioned its cheap and easy to repair.
your going to have negative comments about anything but i enjoyed watching it - i fast forwarded it alot to the ending to see the outcome. Good job
people just love to shit on others, especially on youtube. it's for their self-esteem lol...
@@thedbq1 lol no my friend.. it's because of the shitty sped up techno music. plain and simple
Awesome job and looks fabulous. Didn't know rims could be wrapped in vinyl.☺☺☺
wow man, you did a really awesome job on these wheels! kudos to you and thanks for making the video, I enjoyed it!
When heating the vinyl and pressing it into those curves you should be using your finger and soapy water or spit, not a rag. That rag can stick to the hot vinyl and leave lent or rip it. Also don't make any cuts until it's applied all over your selected area (including all curves and recesses. If you make a relief cut a relief cut in the middle like in this video it will prevent you from being able to heat it again because it'll expand and further the cut.
Also for all you folk who don't do this professionally, make sure you're using a brand new blade before each cut to prevent jagged edges from dull cuts.
They also didn't mention cleaning the surface extremely well with 1/2 Denatured Alcohol and water before application to prevent future failing of the vinyl and prevent dust speckles showing through.
Just tips for installs from a wrapper.
Timothy Brooks it sounds like you know about vinyl. How long does it really last. I’m in California is it worth wrapping wheels
Have you gone Platinum yet?
Is the music mandatory while you wrap it?
The vinyl won't stick without it
YES! -

Absolutely agree with you. Everybody on CZcams thinks they need music when they make videos. They're distracting, annoying and stupid.
If u dont like the music. Turn the volume down. Bitches
Thanks, your video is the best because you wrap the whole wheel not just the face.
will this work with the stock oem rims? the paint on one of my rims started to chip and need a repaint. Also how long will this wrapping last? I might do this instead of repainting my G35 coupe stock rims.
And what happens to your finished vinyl when you get your tires changed?
looks good, great job!!
I love the look, and did it on my 911 wheels. Similar 5 spokes, but spokes are rounded. The only problem I have is keeping the vinyl from popping in the outside corners of the rim, at the acute angle when I drive and the breaks heat the wheels up. I ended up slitting the corners, releasing the pressure, and carefully putting a patch. I spoke with someone at 3M and they say the vinyl has a max stretch of 30%.
How well did your wheels age?
I'm thinkin' plasti dip as well
Forgot one thing. Yes, you can do it in 30mins, after you've practiced and wasted $40 in vinyl.
This was my second rim ever and before this i only wrapped two roofs. so pretty green. the first took 40 to a hour. and the last maybe 20ish.. min. not not crazy hard. just go slow and be mindfull with how the vinyl reacts.
Love the straight to the point vhybe. Good tutorial
dont listen to the negative feedbacks. I, on the otherhand, enjoy this. Thank you for letting us know that there's other options out there besides having to powdercoat
Seems like a very tedious process, wouldn't plastidip have been easier?
This video is from 2010. Plastidip would be 100x easier than this lmao
This video is from 2010. Plastidip would be 100x easier than this lmao
***** plasti dio existed back in 1992. and was used in spray form back in 2006-2007. that doesnt make it any esier or longer lasting. each has its strengths.
Plasti dip definitely works I did it to my rims but took my 3 hours and five coats plus 3 clear coats and it looked perfect and lasted about three years but now it looks terrible and is being a pain in the but to take off.
plastidip is way better and you dont have to take the tires off! very simple to plasti dip it!
Plastishit looks like crap though, and it a pain to clean.
Ecookman Sama look like shit haha you are so fkn stupid haha and its easier to take off! and it looks way better and its cheaper!
I've never seen Plasti'd rims look nice. I just bit the bullet and had my rims professionally painted. Worth every penny. Even color and finish.
Ecookman Sama I'll agree that plasti dip is a bit of a pain to keep clean and stain-free, but when done right it can look good. You should check out dipyourcar.com if you get the chance.
Xavier Campbell I have, I just don't like the look of the product at all, or how it likes to peel after a few months.
Exactly. Been wrapping vehicles for 6 years daily with 3M vinyl and if you apply it right and if the owner takes care of the foil, it could last more than 5 years. Easy!
Excellent idea, looks great, and has tons of possibilities. very cheap for such a great outcome and to take so little time on it. Perfect DIY for anyone. thanks I am going to do this.
Not sure what happened to buddies comment that said show us 24h later, ok bud. i see your 24h and raise you 28000h, just went out and took this pic. 4 years later.

suck on those apples. ;)
to your credit mystory comment that got deleted. the two rear rims had a small section that lifted off. three years later. and i wanted to see how hard it would be to peel off came off easy so two have little patches missing. but that was in porpose.
Bart Koscow
Is the discoloration in the center of the wheel from heat, dirt, abrasion or u.v if you can tell ?
Im still impressed it lasted so long, especially being exposed to the elements.
+nvmyutube no its actually a area where I started to peel the vinyl since after 4 years there where some cracks forming. and really only in the corners where it was stretched. but non the less that's where the vinyl failed.
$
+Bart Koscow You managed to change tires without damaging the vinyl ? :D
8NTEfRhET
People have to realise the longevity doesn't exist on wheels and glued on vinyl. Add in road salts and water mixed with spilt fuels from trucks and all other crap on the road fired up into your wheels and it's gotta be no shock that they will start to fail especially when grit and stuff chips at it. With the cost of the vinyl being less than £10 especially if you order it directly from china and wait 2 weeks for it to arrive, you then realise it's really only meant to be for a short period of time. Sure, you could add 4 coats of lacquer afterwards to give it some extra protection and more longevity but that makes removing the vinyl a little tougher. Things like this are great for shows and such where you will remove it within a week or even a few months and lets face it, it's not costing more than a few pounds and your time to do it. People who are expecting a lifetime good look are going to be disappointed. Great video, could be more detailed but inspires none the less. Btw, if you are feeling creative, you don't have to do one colour or flat non-patterned.... also, use a brand new very sharp blade and always let IT cut the vinyl while the blade is riding flush where applicable.. otherwise it will look butchered.
Lasted 4years before cracking. This last year I took a look to see if I can peel the vinyl still. I can. This was only a test. But it passed. 4years of Canadian winters.
Bart Koscow how do you avoid the matte vinyl glossing up when you heat it?
Banton Radio d[-_-]
I think the vinyl that looks like it's glossing only appears that way because it's shrinking and stretching. I think whatever is stuck to the actual wheel will remain matte because it can't stretch and shrink, since it is adhered to a surface, i think.
Sunil P I have worked with matte vinyl before and if its heated too much it melts and glosses over. I'm guessing you have to watch the amount of heat used.
Just came across your video and i don't understand all the hate. They came out great!!
that is sick, looks so clean now just three more and your done.
what's with the crappy music you should explain what you're doing
CZcams was different animal 5 years ago sir perhaps i'll do do you suggest. Can't please everyone. So ppl are like SHUTUP! I HAVE EYES! Others want a run down
Fair enough
How long does that material last on the rims
it weird but techno music puts me to sleep,,every time
1q.
Plasti dip is easier
Also a lot harder to take off, let alone the poor quality of it that rubs off after a wash. Trust me, I've done plasti dip on rims, easier yes; better no.
Jason Stefan so what would you recommend to be the overall best way to achieve the matte look
JonLondon210 if I'm honest, I'd recommend powder coating or the best results but the hardest sanding down the alloy priming and using a matt spray paint, available at Halfords in the uk, finishing off with a Matt clear lacquer.
rubs off after a wash lol. you clearly had no idea what you were doing then. Matte black dip on my rims for 3 1/2 years just removed the dip this weekend with no issues.
Mel H so the dip comes off? When you want it to?
Hey man looks awesome. have you had problems with the rims heating up and melting the vinyl? if they do at all?
Awesome work...I have been looking to do something like this to my accord sports...thanks for the idea...
i wonder how many people have fucked there wheels up after watching this
Lol diy diy diy
well since vinyl peels off. 100% less then if they had painted them which needs to be sanded off.
their
"There really is no downfall to doing this, faster and cheaper then painting.."
Yeah... right. You can get a few cans of plastidip for the same price (or cheaper). And plastidipping rims is WAAAAYYY easier/quicker than the tedious task of applying vinyl. Also, those were very basic, flat-faced rims. Those with multi-spokes would have a nightmare on their hands trying to wrap them like that.
Except Plasti dip turns into trash within weeks
he said "faster and cheaper then PAINTING", he never said "faster and cheaper then anything else". smartass.
How long does this last? I live in TX now. Im scared this is gonna start peeling come May when it starts getting super hot.
What happens when you have to change your tires?
thats toooooooooo much fucken work for a weeks life on those black rims. I think using a spray can would be faster and last more.
+Rick Mahorne but a spray wont look like carbon fibre
plasti-dip makes this look like ssshhhiitttttt
Really Does... Woulda been cooler if they used carbon fiber vinyl.
Tyler Butler
this video is now three years old. i wasnt about to waste such a expensive material on something that might have not worked.
I see. I wasnt bashing you it was just a response to the plasti dip comment is all. Does look good though
Love it. Really came together with the decals.
whats the yellow tool your using. a heat gun? Is that and the razorblade/ card the only things ill need for doing this in addition to the vinyl itself? btw, excellent music choice
Plasti Dip only takes a minute -.-
no it dosnt. ive plasti-dipped rims before and if you want to do it right you have to scuff them up. but you dont need to. in any case. it still takes this long if not longer to plasti dip, which i can rub off with my thumb.
Actually try both methods and tell me which lasts longer. im no hypacrite. i have and its faster to vinly. but better and permante to paint them. which takes 2 times longer.
ive never used vinyl seems too hard... i think of it as if i cannot put a screen protector on my phone, how can i put vinyl on my car....
Neil Patel i got same problem lol
Neil Patel Lol
Neil Patel If you're doing in a minute sorry bud, you're doing it wrong. + you need 3-4 layers of plastidip per wheel if you wanna peel it off smoothly.
this shit looks like more of a pain in the ass then anything.
9:13 he's got part of the old rim showing... yea... ill stick to my plastidip with clear coat over it.
Brandon Stark totally agree, hard to beat dip
Brandon Stark that part in the back was painted black.
Ryan Begley Im sure he was talking about glossifier which is clear coat, but u can use other clears on it
Brandon Stark hard to beat dip, cheap, durable way more than vinyl and easier to put on.
Good job guys !
Where do you find such vinyl paper ?
wow u guys make it look easy lol great work
Yeah I stopp watching after a min, I'll just plasti dip them
Sod this just use Plastidip easy on in 5 minutes and off in 1 minute
+Dan Druft ass face, that lasts at least 4 years, mine is 4 years and looks OK. Vinyl brand is Hyundai
+rodstartube What are you crying for ? vinyl sheets for wrapping is old hat and expensive to do, It's either spray on wrap or Hydrodipping. Try to keep up mate
+Dan Druft it doesn't last 1 minute
+rodstartube yes it does I run my own business doing this stuff in matte and solvent resistant gloss you don't know what you are talking about
@Dan Druft I've never wrapped or Plasti dipped anything, but I just watched a video on Plasti Dip and it does NOT take 5 minutes. They suggest several coats. 1 can per wheel. And use the whole can. 1 coat does not take 5 minutes to dry. "Allow 10 -30 minutes dry time (dry to the touch) before applying additional coats. A minimum of 5 coats is recommended for best performance and easy removal. " If you want it to peel off without being a pain in the ass it takes at least 4 coats. And you should wear a respirator, so plan on buying one with a proper filter cartridge on it. Then there are the adhesion promoters and clear coats and whatnot to put over it. Doing Plasti Dip properly takes more than 5 minutes. And, if done properly, it looks great and lasts. They say vinyl lasts. It also has to be applied properly, not over heated/ overstretched, and stretched from the right direction. And, now they even have ceramic coating (very expensive) to protect the vinyl. Plus you need to protect vinyl just as you would paint, with wax or whatever, to protect it from the sun. In any case, plan on hand washing your car and not using harsh chemicals with either product. High pressure washing is probably not recommended with either as well.
I'm gonna try this with Camo Vinyl on my truck rims...thanks for the video...
looks amazing, but how well does it look with the elements?
annoying music
who the fuck wraps their rims. waste of time and effort. Say bye bye few months later. Paint takes few mins to do all four and looks nicer with different coats. One rip on this shit and you'll have to strip it all off and re do. One scratch on paint and you just spray it over again.
So fucking true, and the plastic dips are a lot of money!
Wow! The rim looks tough as hell bro! How does the Vinvl hold up after a season of day to day driving?
email me directly and i'll cut some for you.
portabuddy@gmail.com
Tbf, thats pretty awesome! how easy is it to vinyl wrap things? i want to do my roof on my car but not sure how to do it, also loving that sticker 'winter mode' its mint!
Did you buy those decals at the end or can those be printed off? Can you put vinyl on top of vinyl?
I like it. Loved the red Honda badge against the matte black.
Great initiative and great job on the video and the wheel. One thing I would do different is release the tension on each spoke by cutting a longitudinal sleet in the center of the spoke, some 2 inches long would do. That would make covering each spoke inside much easier, and would make it more durable. Either way, great job. Thanks!
its easier this way.. you get to civer two spokes at once equally
Good job at applying the wrap but the inside (Rear Half) is still silver / alloy. Did you do that part as well or just leave it?
will the vinyl burn? or melt? rims could get hot too especially during the summer
Awesome! You make it look so easy, how many wheels had you vinyl'd when you filmed that? I bet it wasn't your first lol
Do you think this wrap process would hold up to car washes? I run my jeep through the wash 2-3 times a week ... just wondering.
just tried vinyl wrap for the first time n its pretty cool
I did my rx8 roof on my own black carbon fibre look was bloody hard work lol outside in the cold but looks good. Think I’ll do my wheels too
Wouldnt it be better to add relief cuts in the voids prior to heating so not as much heat is required?
Thanks for the video but is this better or peel coating ?
tight. nice way to show people howda do this. ima try to do racing stripes and the rims on my solara
Great! I'm in auto business, too. What tire changer do You have and will You use to swap tires from these vinyl sticker wheels?
Ptivet friend!
Good job! :)
Which film company?
Praimer used?
nice did mine 4 the winter also. wish i would tried that again instead of painting them. took 4ever but came out great
Did you do the inside for the rim the same way ? what size sheets would you recommend to do 4 17" Rims ?
Awesome job. Very thorough and proffesional
Great job. Did you get any stretch marks?
if you attack the wheel with a good pressure washer, how does the vinyl fare? I have 3M protection on the front and it stays fine, but I use pressure pretty hard on the wheels. Thoughts?
Can you vinyl wrap aluminum hub caps, or is it better to spray pain them?
OK this was posted 3 years ago now.... How'd it last? I'm thinking of doing this to my wheels only with chrome.
How long does the vinyl last and is it ok to wash the rims with water? Does the vinyl remain on the rim or gets ripped off?
wow that looks awesome. I painted mine matte black. The wrapping would be a cool artistic way of doing it though. I may have to try that sometime.
Ese eso un secador de cabello convencional o es uno especial para este tipo de trabajos??
what temp on the heat gun?
looks awesome, how hard is that to keep clean?
Does this wrap hold up against certain cleaners for brake dust and grime?
You took the words right out of my mouth.
How well does it stay on...I like in Wisconsin and it snows here...will it peal off??
I love this idea! I'm going to try it out on my New GT Mustang. I'll check your ebay site out today!
thanks for showing but wont it scratch at the edges wen the tires are beint taken off the rims at the vulcanizers?
Dude, great job man looks really good :)
Can you do this on al types of rims because yours look like easy ones to do?
nope! just flat faced wheels. vinyl will only stretch so far untill the glue has stretched too far and wont stick anymore.
looks really good man
Could you wrap the inside of the barrel as well? Perhaps place the seems behind the spokes?
for that application does dirt and brake dust stick to the vinyl or dose it wipe off easily?
gloss decal on matte rim was a dope touch....
so what happens when you take it to the tyre fitters isnt it going wreck the wrap?
Nice job man. I'm thinking about to this to my car.
That actually looks really nice lol.
What's the second and third song please?
