I think it should be common sense that if our parenting isn’t coming from a place of truth, honesty, courage, respect, humility, love or wisdom; that we are not doing our jobs! These are the 7 Sacred (Grandfather) Teachings! One thing I noticed was Ruby’s face on the day she was arrested compared to the day she spoke in Court! While Chad her son says he believes her, I have to question the motives of both Ruby and Kevin! There is a big question I have. I was a legal assistant for 26years and know that her lawyer would have advised her that if you’ve done something and the evidence is clear and you plead not guilty, you get more time! I listened to videos of her and Kevin’s calls! They spoke privately when she said go get the kids! He went to police station and in first interview said he trusted both Jodi and Ruby yet in the second interview I saw, he disclosed how he was kicked out, had to stay on a floor while Jodi and Ruby slept in same room, then was kicked out, I get he could have been shamed re pornography, but he clearly knew what happened in his home at the time he said he trusted them. Those things alone without the abuse of children would be enough to not trust! So now he wants a divorce and I question whether he is motivated by wanting custody of children, and if that has anything to do with not wanting the children to go to another family and more of the full truth comes out! I don’t think it’s all been disclosed! Also, Ruby and Jodi’s time in jail has not yet been established and ALL Ruby’s calls were more about how long she’d be in jail, how Jodi was denying, how Jodi had brainwashed her! Has there been any calls where she asked how her children were? I haven’t seen her do that! She is self serving and I believe Kevin and her talking prior to the arrest was filled with Ruby thinking ahead, she was caught and wanted the evidence (the children) picked up, even though she kicked Kevin out of the house and their lives claiming he wasn’t worthy!

I'm a therapist and a stay at home mom and have been following along with your coverage. You are spot on about the booklet.... there's no discussion of developmental appropriateness. You should have age appropriate expectations for your kids and support them and guide them to learn coping and emotional regulation. The tactics Jodi was using unfortunately work in creating a trauma bond, not genuine affection and love. Demanding perfection and blind obedience from children just proves you are a parent that doesn't have control of yourself. If you need your children to bear all the responsibility and burden of your demands and you can't tolerate mistakes or emotional outbursts from your children, it just tells me you need to seek your own therapy. Your children should not be responsible for your mood or the peace in your own head. Kids need to be allowed to fail, they need guidance and unconditional love not punishment and conditional love. What's most annoying is we know this. There's mountains of research about effective parenting and child development that Jodi just ignored because she was delusional. She thought she knew better despite her own mental health problems being in control. As a therapist I have no issue with nuance, thus I can have empathy for all of these people while not discounting that they are accountable for their actions. Mostly I blame the church for promoting inappropriate beliefs about mental health and refusing to denounce things like visions of glory or the way "personal revalation" is being used to justify all sorts of abuse. It breeds cult leaders and abusers and the children who have to live within it will continue to suffer.

@@BoyMama87 nah, no first hand experience, I'm in Oklahoma. I was raised catholic but I've had lots of experience with fundamentalist Christianity both personally and professionally and was always really against posting kids online. Most of my focus when I was practicing was in treating PTSD and BPD. I've just been following this case pretty closely since the initial controversy around 8 passengers came up. Even 10 years ago I would sit down all my clients and have a talk about social media, teaching all the teens about privacy settings and dangers of sexting. I'd always recommend to parents not to share personal photos or private family details online because I saw the damage of it in some of my teen clients- not trusting parents because their privacy wasn't respected, bullying at school etc. There's a lot of old school authoritarian families around here, especially some of the grandparents who became foster parents to my clients. I spent a lot of time in family sessions explaining things like "actually, taking the door of the hinges won't in fact improve this teenagers behavior." Anyhow, I've followed Mormon Stories and a few other exmo creators for years which is where most of my knowledge of the LDS church is from. I miss work so I hope to go back once both my kids are in school. Just not looking forward to redoing all my hours and testing.

I do think the Hannas tried to warn Ruby because Kevin even talked about how they told people that Jodi stayed with them for six weeks and it was hell and they had to kick her out, she tried to seduce the husband, but depending on whose version you believed. Jodi was telling people they kidnapped her and she escaped.
I think they did try to warn people once they realized what was going on with Jodi and they didn’t fully realize until they had her in their home. The thing about Jodi is she’s a very talented psychopath, as her nibling Jessi has told people. And she also uses the 12 steps as part of her therapeutic model, which is a very helpful method. It combines cognitive behavioral therapy with other modalities and it can really change your life. But of course that’s just to lure you in. Then she brings in “distortion” and “shame” and that’s when the cult aspects begin to rear their ugly head. It’s just like how Scientology starts. In Scientology they go in for auditing, and it’s basic cognitive behavioral therapy too, and it helps them and they get better at first. So that’s why they don’t think it’s a bad thing and definitely not a cult.
Ruby had already cut off her whole family who tried to warn her. And as Kevin said also, Ruby was very competitive and jealous of the Hannas and their relationship with Jodi. So you know she was more than happy to replace the Hannas in Jodi’s affections. And so she blinded herself to any and all warnings about Jodi. Plus Ruby is a sadistic psychopath herself so why is anyone surprised she didn’t listen. I do believe the Hannas tried.

There’s apparently an observable accent spoken by women raised in American fundamentalist churches. How women are supposed to speak (sweet, pray, obey) in these circles has resulted in a noticeable accent like a Boston accent would be developed in someone raised in Boston. I wish I could remember where I saw the linguistic breakdown but if you Google it you can probably find something on it. I’m not very good at picking out accents because my local accent in Canada is very similar to northwestern American accents, so other than the religious gobbledygook, I can’t really tell.

@@RendaJane The word "excommunicated" we all know is rather synonymous with the LDS church. In the instance of Jodi and Ruby, they need to be excommunicated for their own good. To not be held to some responsibility they aren't ready to have. Like being decent and humane people at the most basic level, for example.
What I want to know is what "two cults" is this commentor talking about and how on earth do they think people at Connexions are trying to join said cults in an effort to avoid excommunication? That just sounds like a very weird assumption and a complete lack of knowledge on both religion and cults.
These psychos from Connexions can not tie their evil Corp to the LDS church. They obviously tried, and they failed. There is no bringing groups together to make some sort of plea deal to avoid excommunication.
People agreeing to the comments tells me, and I know there might be more possibilities, that they have zero clue about how anything works, or they just want to be in solidarity with strangers under their own kind of hate for a group of people. It's hard to think this is not a CYA podcast. It's possible the Hannah's were not aware of the abuse, but that's a stretch. Notice that after Kevin had lawyered up, which was immediately, his entire story and demeanor changed. All of a sudden, he becomes a victim of Jodi's manipulations. These could easily be the words of his spotlight-loving lawyer, Randy Kester. It's so disturbing that Kevin hasn't been held responsible for abandoning and neglecting his children. I'm concerned that since it's Utah, Kevin might get custody of these severely abused children. The two middle girls may not have received physical punishment, but they were emotionally and psychologically damaged, just by being aware of what had been done to their 2 younger siblings. The entire system in Utah abandoned these kids.

Apparently it's not against the law to leave children alone at home (even overnight) as long as there's someone of 12 years or older present.

The part that is really creepy is the fact that Ruby didn't hear any of her warnings. I'm starting to think, based off of things her siblings have said about Ruby, that she gets really fixated and obsessed on things. It's almost like she has addictive personality. She had to be the best CZcamsr and when that was over, something else had to control her obsessiveness. Now in prison she will find a new obsession.

Thank you for doing such an honest and vulnerable job covering this topic. You do a great job covering these issues. Parenting is not easy, and I’m the mom of two littles who struggles to make all the right decisions amidst the technological world we live in. I’m invested in this case because I believe it’s important to keep parents from falling into a trap like this. Jodi was a master manipulator who found people struggling and sought to make money off their struggles. And, based on what her niece testifies to, she seems to enjoy inflicting pain on children. I so hope to see justice served. And, btw, I’ve watched many of your videos, which I think are very well done, but I never noticed your breathing. Here is the thing: Nobody with six kids under the age of eight is going to be in peace. That is way too many kids to have. And this is part of the problem. That church is pushing this role for women. Are there exceptional women with great mentoring who can get lucky and do this well? Yes. But it isn't just ability and work. It is luck. Ruby was so blessed to have six healthy kids. What would have happened if she had a child with a chromosome imbalance? Or cancer?

I absolutely abhor the word “punishment.” I came to be a public educator through a group home for children who were court ordered into our facility for “delinquency.”
We always used the word ‘consequences.’ Whatever action you take, there are consequences of your decision. Sometimes the consequences are not fair, but that is how things fall at times.
Teaching people, especially children, that there are consequences for what we do, good or bad, teaches them to be accountable and accept responsibility for outcomes.
If you make pro social choices, your outcomes will be more positive.
Of course, things happen that are out of our control and that is also a life lesson.

She made some comments about this during some of her jail calls that have been released. They range between her saying that it's not bad and she'll do well there to her complaining about how "torturous" it was for her to have to hear one of the other inmates crying out all night (sounded like they were likely crying in pain or crying for help, but it wasn't clear what had happened).
She was raised in a highly controlling religion - prison will be easier to adapt to and may even be seen as giving her the structure she needs to stay on track with her religion.

Ruby kept saying that R was sneaky and stealing water. It's kind of strict to NOT allow ones child water. I find that "Strict parents create sneaky kids" is on that list, very contradictory for those two and doesn't align with the abuse. Go figure.

I wrote a supportive email to Paige because given the right circumstances, anyone can get pulled into a high pressure group/cult/MLM. I wrote on my email I did not need a reply but wanted to show support. She wrote me back saying thank you.
The principles as explained by Paige sounded good. It made sense. I listened to Coach Kristi who the Berry's and Hanna's have been associated with and I liked Kristi. It was not all word salad.
I think Paige comes from a place of helping others.
Jodi and Ruby came from a place of low self esteem and gained meaning in their lives by acting superior and forcing their views on others. Who can be forced, starved, imprisoned and beaten? Children who are smaller and have no resources to flee.
I am waiting for the Fight of the Century! Who will Jesus come to 1st when He returns for the Second Coming? Chad Daybell? Jodi Hildebrandt? Tim Ballard? I think Jodi and Chad need to have a boxing match. I am betting on Jodi, she has so much bitterness and hate stored up inside, she would unalive Chad for sure.
As Chad Daybell's attorney John Prior might say, Quite Honestly, I do not know how you made it through that book/workbook. I have a shameful confession, I ordered a couple of Julie Rowe books. I think since they were second hand Julie did not get anything from my purchase. The shameful part is one of the books came from AVOW. They did get a little bit of money from me.

You’ve obviously missed the disclosure that Ballard is a fake
Along with his organisation. He also followed the ‘visions of glory book which seems to be a Bible for sociopathic Mormons. Ballard is not a good guy and conned so many people by the ‘save the children’ con that seems to point away from the actual abusers in our world, when it’s they themselves that are the criminals. . So Ballard I believe has been excommunicated by the Mormon church, which they rarely do, so that carries weight that he really is not who you think he is. Try listening to Mormon Stories Podcast and search for his name. Or other true crime podcasts, it’s everywhere apart from those channels that spread the usual Q crap and disinformation.

I’m so psyched that you found that lawyer!! I’ve been so curious about him. When he said that line about how “so the boy lied” and Jodi very quickly says “the police are right here” and quickly redirects him, it just really made me wonder about him. I would love to know what that guy thinks now-but also wish I could have seen his face when he saw-assuming he did see-the photos of what those evil monsters did to poor R. She said her lawyer told her the pictures would destroy her basically, but I think that was her current criminal attorney, not good ol’ Adam. So can’t wait to hear what you have on him!

Jessica, you are so good at this. I am really enjoying your content. You don’t need to apologize for anything (being out of breath- I get winded easily too, especially this time of year with allergies). Anyway, just wanted to say you are doing an awesome job and you don’t ever need to apologize for things. ❤

@Jessica firstly, thank you for all of your hard work bringing so much of this to light. It’s heartbreaking and fascinating. Also, super random but; I paused your video to tell you I have that exact coffee cup! It’s literally my favorite cup! I got mine at a Pete’s coffee shop in Millvalley, California 30 years ago🤯🤣

I'm fairly new to ur channel, I have really enjoyed all ur vids that I've watched. They all have been very well put together, ur points have aligned w/my own thoughts n feelings on topics. Ur very kind, caring n intelligent nature comes across n all ur content. Yeah I think she shoulda made this video months ago, but at least she did make 1. I do wish she woulda did a interview on a podcast ch like DCP, r Mormon Stories, where specific questions could b asked n answered, so myself n others could get a better insight into the relationship w/Jodi, Ruby, n connections, n also to gage her character better.I really appreciated the emails u included for that very reason 😉💞

This book was written by women whose religion dictated to them that their lives would center around raising children, and the more the better. More kids=more tithes eventually. Jodi and Ruby were frustrated with this, but could not even admit it to themselves because they’re “good Mormons”. So they deeply resent their children, all children, and took out their frustrations on them. You can bet they’re not the only women raised in cults who have these feelings. It’s extremely dangerous as children are our future.

Yes, fantastic insight. I was struggling to understand in modern society why Ruby and Paige had so many children, one after the other and then complained about not being able to cope. You'd have to be superwoman! Although, I think she did say she had a nanny.

The fact all these people keep acting like Ruby wasn't abusive BEFORE Jodi is ALARMING! She starved them, she gaslit them, she psychologically and emotionally tormented them, etc. She was already horrible before Jodi, they just made eschother worse!

Ruby referred to Jodi in her journal as G. Jo, as in Grandma Jodi. I can’t remember exactly where I heard that but I think it makes the most sense.

Paige Hanna may be the Leah Remini of Connexions. Leah was 💯 Scientology until she saw some injustices. Then she blew up her life to try & stop the abuses. I don’t think everyone associated with Ruby, Jodi, & Connexions is automatically evil & abused children or allowed abuse of children to continue. If anyone else needs to be held responsible, it should be Kevin Franke. Neglect & abandonment are legally child abuse in many states now & for good reason. Kevin Franke still didn’t care about his children & only cared about Ruby once the cops told them of the abuse. He tried desperately to get Sheri arrested for getting some of the kids’ belongings from the house. He even went so far as to threaten to sue the cops for refusing to arrest her. In my opinion, his only concern is getting those 2 youngest abused kids back under his control so he can start brainwashing them to retract their statements about Ruby abusing them, testify before the parole board on her behalf, & get her out of jail so he can be Ruby’s knight in shining armor. Kevin is a horrible parent & should lose his parental rights permanently as should Ruby.

Thank you for this extremely thoughtful and thorough reaction; the footage you included from ACTUALLY accredited professionals highlights just how dangerously wrong connexions’ approach was/is-that kind of parenting guarantees tragic results.
Also, you and your husband are correct: I’m a southerner, and “if mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy” was quoted a lot in my house 😂
Also, I think Jodi’s nickname in the journals was “G Jo” (as in “Grandma Jodi?) not G Lo.

Just a fun expression , not to be taken seriously. the full quote is:
    If mama ain’t happy
    Nobody’s happy
If daddy ain’t happy nobody cares🤣😂
