I want you to know how much some kustom guys appreciate watching these videos on building a carson top. Like I've said before, this is one of the first and only, full top build and upholstery job by a builder, we all got to see your mistakes and got to watch you persevere and make a really sweet top. I'm sure some upholstery guys are shaking their heads, but!!! You have a sweet top on that chevy, and it fits in the bed, under that cover and that's awesome!!
The truck keeps getting better and better Brent! The top turned out nicer than I thought it would cause it was so hard to get finished. I cant help but envisioning it with fancy metal flake paint like a old school dream truck.
This top series has definitely been the hardest to watch, so I can only imagine how you’ve felt building it. Although I never doubted you’d nail (or glue n screw) it, the thought of failure did knock on the door a few times. Nicely overcome and an excellent job as always brother, I can’t wait to see that bed get done next. Thanks for taking us along!👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼
That's awesome! The top turned out great! Always a good sign when you have to think about what's next. That means it's wrapping up, and you can get to enjoy it soon! Can't wait to see it in it's full green glory!
Wowzer the top is done and it looks terrific . Breaking in a new idea is never easy !! You have overcome every problem and in front of all your admiring fans . that is one heck of an accomplishment . God Bless you and the whole crew at Halfass Kustoms , Stuart in Ontario ..
Congratulations on the progress on the top. I salute you. Like I said in a previous comment it would all be in the trash bin and I would have covered it with White Rhino Liner. You have done good!
Lol...whatever its 1000 x better then I could do, it's not like anyone is walking away over it Brent. In fact you should try it again, and again..... because based on your skill and learning abilities you can master it.
Loved the JB Weld idea to fix a stripped screw hole. I just stripped out 3 windshield bolts today and needed a fix. Many thanks for saving the day for me.
I think that’s the most struggle I’ve seen you have on a project, but I knew you’d get it right very well done it looks really nice.thanks John from Arizona
As you are heading towards the finish line with this build it's really taking on a cool factor 😎. Way better than some other builders that never seem to cross the finish line with anything. 👍
Trying for you I'm sure Brent ! but you always get it done. the Top looks good and the trim you added. I love Pablo in the Navigator seat he always looks happy to go for a ride. Thanks Brent!
Actually the heat doesn't shrink the vinyl, it's meant to soften the tight areas so you can pull the wrinkles out of the other area's and it's possible that you have a nice molded seal for the door corners in your vast selection of cars, you may have to trim to fit, but most cars have molded pieces that go at the top of the door panels that screw in place and wouldn't be a problem with moving around like the stick on stuff 👍, p.s. that's a beautiful 66 chevelle
Everything is looking really, really nice. Hope that Lexan survives as the back window. Look forward to seeing more progress on the rest of the truck. I had a '67 Chevelle, 396 4-speed back in the mid-70s. Had a lot of fun with that car when it was running right, but had to rebuild/replace engine, clutch, trans and rear-end all within the first4 months I owned it. Car was a lemon when I bought it and I overlooked things. Learned a lot over those 4 months but it was frustrating. Be safe and stay well.
Looking good Brent! Bought an assortment of the same weatherstrips. Thought you always did the practice side first. A little stainless piece on the top to hold upholstery away from moving door post. Need a Halfasskustom laynyard for your door fob. Vacuum tubing to join weaterstrip, inside the bulb part. works well. I think the heat gun suggestion is to heat the tight material next to the loose part. Or wait and see what the sun does.
Brent that is awesome. You take on challenges a lot like myself. Paint and flys. Amazon sells some large bug zappers. I have two in my shop. Turn all lights out at night except the bug zappers and shop is bug free in the morning. Pretty cool. Hope to see a green roadster soon😊
Hi Brent I have been watching your channel for about a year. I was talking to your dad at a reunion and been watching since .sure is small world I saw that hoist that you got a few shows back that was mine A few months ago had it for years. I am your dad’s cousin not sure if you remember me I haven’t seen you for years . keep up the good work
Excellent video Brent :) yes heard Lex Sand Glass is much Glass and congratulations on top too complete to ! Also yes lots certain parts of vechiles to do takes time lots work plus hours fix up and be task to!
Brent, white 3M 5200 and nothing including the edges of the vinyl will pull away again. Tap a ball bearing ball larger than the threaded hole into the hole to lightly peen or roll the 1st threads and they'll bite onto the screw.
I saw a channel that put a patterned rug onto a bonnet (hood) using epoxy resin . . . it looked so cool, Brent, maybe something like that for the underside of the roof? . . . Loving the progress on this ride, my friend. All the best.
Park that truck outside when it's a 100 degrees. Then kinda massage the surrounding Area so the vinyl can move. Where the vinyl is stretched tight it will absorb the extra from the loose areas. The glue is always kind of temporary. It needs a trim around the edged to hold it long term. Ive been doing upholstery for 40 yrs. You did a pretty nice job for a complete newby. You've got ahold of the concept for sure. That was not an easy project by any means. Keep practicing.
I believe the time to use the heat is when you are stretching & applying it. Not sure it will do anything after it's already a finished project. I wouldn't sweat it. It looks Grrrreat. Ty for taking us along P.S then i see you use heat as you stretched the rear window, so i think you figgered it out. Lol
I have a late model GMC I built from a wreck, it's white chose a white spray in bed liner for it that may be an option for you it's cheap and also a sound deadener could simply roll it in with a mini roller. Awesome build i just bet your ready to start enjoying this one while the weather is still good with the top off lol.
Brent, I am happy for you. I was starting to worry that the top just wasn't in the cards. Man with the window in, it just rocks. It is mint. It just fits the look of this build so perfectly. Great job! Sounds like you have a pretty small checklist before you can enjoy it a little before painting. Enjoy that car!. You earned it. P.S. please check your lug nuts before your next shakedown cruise. LOL.
That rinkle in the roofs seam would drive my OCD off the charts. LOL Definitely give the Casting a go again. For those center bullets. whatever their called.
I knew you could do it Brent the top came out nice I learned I life never to give up sometimes you have to back away from the project and regroup on the brainstorming of how to get it done and than it will come to you
The trouble with offering advice here is that you will have done what you are going to do before we see the problem. The heat gun will help with the initial stretch into place it will not shrink something that is already fixed. Remember when casting aluminium you will get shrinkage of around 6% on pattern size, you can factor that in on the 3D printer before casting.
"I like it. I like it a lot!" That is the big win, right there! Good for you, Brent, you earned this one....
That top is really starting to come together.
Truck is looking awesome brent! Can't wait to see it painted lol😊
Well done !! You stuck to it & made it happen !!
Awesomely done Brent. You are winning this battle. Thanks for sharing. Take care
Looks awesome Brent tougher than pulling rusty nails. Thanks for sharing! 💯👊👍💕

That's awesome! The top turned out great!
Always a good sign when you have to think about what's next. That means it's wrapping up, and you can get to enjoy it soon! Can't wait to see it in it's full green glory!

I watched you build that Top from scrap and look at it now!!! WOW UDAMAN Brent!!!:)
Great job. It doesn't have to be perfect. I can't wait to see this truck finished. I think this has been your longest running build. You'll get there.
Wowzer the top is done and it looks terrific . Breaking in a new idea is never easy !! You have overcome every problem and in front of all your admiring fans . that is one heck of an accomplishment . God Bless you and the whole crew at Halfass Kustoms , Stuart in Ontario ..

Hey Brent, I love your creativity with these old classics by having a go at the whole thing ❤
Congratulations on the progress on the top. I salute you. Like I said in a previous comment it would all be in the trash bin and I would have covered it with White Rhino Liner. You have done good!
Perseverance pays off, i knew you'd get there in the end!

That's a 1966 chevelle. Awesome progress on your top. Thanks for the video Brent
It looks pretty good for someone who don't do that kind of work! It and the bed cover make the looks of that truck!
You got it finally it looks great the spots that don’t is now a conversation pice well done Brent 👍👋🇨🇦
Congratulations on the top. That was quite the struggle but well worth it. Pablo looks great in a Roadster.
As you are heading towards the finish line with this build it's really taking on a cool factor 😎. Way better than some other builders that never seem to cross the finish line with anything. 👍

Wow, Brent, that thing has fought you every step of the way. But, it is awesome.

What I'd like to know Brett is how many beers did it take to finally finish the top? Lol😅
Superglue is really good for joining rubber together such as the weather trims & window rubbers but keep up the good work looking sweet 👌👍
Looking good Brent!

I admire this man's custom work bad Chad could learn a lot from this man like how to complete a project

Looks fine. Thanks.
Heating and stretching the back window? Now you're getting the idea😊
Brent the top is awesome you should be very happy with the outcome a steamer would work best for the wrinkles
Looks fabulous.
That rinkle in the roofs seam would drive my OCD off the charts. LOL Definitely give the Casting a go again. For those center bullets. whatever their called.
