    Good morning Shawn and Cali , everything there at the cabin is coming out just fine, thought I’d give you an idea, to lift those logs you could use an eye bolt, it’s a heavy duty ring around a half inch in thickness going down to the same threads a lag screw has. You could drill right into the center of each log say 2 inches deep with the right size drill for that thread and screw in the eye bolt and put a strap that will fit into the ring and when you lift the log with that crane it’ll lift dead even perfectly horizontally without leaning to the left or to the right but you have to drill it exactly in the center of the whole length of the log so it stays balanced. This is the best method I know cause you’re going higher and higher with the logs and the worse thing that could happen is one of those logs falling to the floor of the cabin and you and Cali could get seriously hurt. You won’t have any problems using an eye bolt.

    • @anniebelle6679
      @anniebelle6679 Před 2 lety +10

    • @antond2154
      @antond2154 Před 2 lety +5

      @@anniebelle6679 , yes you’re correct on that , I’m going based on same diameter ends of the log. If one end is smaller wich means you have to offset from center meaning if the the left side of the end of the log diameter is smaller then you have to drill the hole not on center of the log but to the right from center a few inches over to even off the weight. Of course once you get the first log correct , then you pretty much know what the following diameters of the log ends would be and you’d repeat the process. I’m sure Shawn can figure that out. Bottom line is to work safely without relying on a strap that slides back and forth .

    Shawn you are the Master of Log Cabin building. I admire your work. Your a genius. ,But one flaw I have while watching you build is when you start cooking. I lose track of the build and I get hungry. So I watch how you prepare your meals and I get to cooking on my end. Thanks for showing me how to be a better handyman n cook. That's 2 for 1 ... Better than a supermarket deal. Thanks for sharing your content job well done. Be safe n God Bless... 👍💯🙏🙏🙏

    You know I really loved the first cabin you built and all the other buildings the pizza oven kitchen, and it’s a pleasure you sure this new cabin that’s going to be spectacular I know. Really enjoy when you show some of the landscaping really beautiful with the snow on the trees, Love the wood burner that is awesome. And I will be following the whole cabin build, what’s really beautiful is when you’re done you can sit there and say I did this. Yeah that’s what I be talking about.

    I was totally intrigued the entire episode. An amazing build. The stove will be a big help for warmth and for cooking. Every thing is moving along with so much hard, physical work. You really do have a nice set up there already. I watched the other cabin being built in the winter time. I always enjoy your videos.

    Great video!! (as they all are) That stove will really make things better. It even made MY fingers feel better. I really enjoyed the close up look at chiseling the log for the window frame!! Got right into that one!! I know it is a pain to set up, take, break down, and reset for another shot but I super appreciate all the work you do for that. Still, I'm gonna need a couple more NSAIDS here for all the twisting and straining while moving the logs with you. Even from the relative warmth and comfort of my computer chair I may have pulled a muscle wrenching around here trying not to drop the log!! Thank you so much for letting me live it through your eyes and actions. Wishing you and yours all the best. Health and happiness to you all!! Please, stay safe.. YOU know what it takes!! Thanks again.

    Don’t you just love the ripples flowing over the rocks. That’s what we called them in our river that ran between our farm in Falling River Virginia farm. My beautiful mom who taught school all my young life would wash her hair(which was down to her waist) in the river where the water washed over the rocks until late fall. One day she cut her hair off to her shoulders. My Dad wept. Only time I ever saw that. Your videos bring out the best memories for me.

    This is such a beautiful piece of land and property. I think it is even more beautiful and with more resources than the other property. Which is and will be fantastic! Cannot wait to see how beautiful your log home turns out! Best wishes, Shawn. You're doing an amazing job! Have you considered putting in a small area on the back porch for washing clothes and a means of hanging clean wet clothes to dry? Perhaps putting a much smaller wood stove in it just for drying clothes? Just curious! Would seem handy and important during winter months. Best wishes, Shawn.

    I owned and added onto an 1815 log cabin. It was found like many log cabins, hidden inside the walls of a much larger house. We found it in Michigan and it was moved to northern Ohio. The logs were marked for their location and it was literally put together like a Lincoln Log kit.
    My favorite part of the build was my biggest contribution. I built a one and a half story farm fieldstone wall with a very traditional cooking fireplace. It was outfitted with forged tools and swing arms. My then 8 year old daughter could almost stand up in it and could grow a few feet taller and still be able to lay down in it. I collected the stones with the permission of a few nearby farmers.
    My second favorite part of that build was the 3-5 ft rectangle slate pieces found in the basement of a fallen down house from the late 1700s. We block and tackle the heck out of the stones to get them from point A to point B. The layout took the longest time. It was like putting together a puzzle for a giant. I am not the strongest woman these days but back then I had an alter ego, Svetlana. She could do anything!

      I was thinking of the same thing, another fella on YT (Kris Harbour Natural Building) explains his own setup for hydroelectric and his water source is not even as much as Shawn's. I believe Shawn has a long distance from the water source but this can be done by using long PVC pipe which builds up the water pressure and then goes into a 4way manifold that distributes to the Turgo Turbine. Hope that helps.

    I love watching this man work and create , he is a true master craftsman and I was sort of like him when I was young but not nearly as good . Watching The lazy executive golfers throw tantrums over a missed shot in my Florida retirement community makes me sick , none of them could do a days physical job if their life depended on it . Much Respect Mr. James just do me a favor because I know ,, give your body some down time and some relaxation . The catabolic effect of hard work breaks muscle tissue down and rest and good nutrition is called the anabolic effect and is essential to staying healthy . without it , you couldn't do what you do on a daily basis , be smart and be as pain free as possible in your older years .
