    Have you ruined your paintbrushes before or am I just a bad person?😂 All of these tips are based on mistakes I’ve made because I started painting when I was young and didn’t understand that you need to take care of things so they last longer 😵😓

    Awesome tips for brush care! I'm definitely guilty of leaving my brushes in the water like that. Sometimes I forget them overnight too 😭 I need to start to be more conscious about that!

    My high school art teacher used to give out lunch detention when he caught us leaving brushes in the water. We all learned pretty fast!😄
    For oil brushes, winsor & newton makes a brush cleaner/restorer that works pretty well. It works for acrylics too, but I would just use rubbing alcohol for acrylics, since it's much cheaper.
    Great video!

      Oh wow 😂 that would be good motivation, although maybe a bit extreme.
      Thanks for the tip about the brush cleaner for oil brushes! I'd definitely like to try oil painting one day so I'll have to remember that.

    I feel like most painters made these mistakes in the beginning, even me hahahahahhahaha. Me crying with my brushes that have been coated in acrylic, leaving them with paint on water, and smashing them and forgetting to wash them when I used them with glue. Thanks for the video tho, maybe i can revive some of them (hopefully 😅)

    A trick I use to remove glue from lashes or hair (Emergency Med) is to apply petroleum jelly. It seems to lubricate the hair making it easy for the glue to slip off. I bet it would work great for bristles.

    Little art thing I do is I get a glass plate and put plastic wrap over it so I don’t gotta buy an actual palate, also I don’t need to clean the plate as the plastic wrap comes off and it’s nice and clean!

    Next question how do I keep my water from getting so dirty that I have to change it multiple times during even a small painting. What am I doing wrong?

    • @M3lart
      @M3lart  Před 3 lety +4

      You're not doing anything wrong, that's just the paint showing off how pigmented it is😄 If you don't like swapping your water out so often you could try a multiple-cup system where you have 2 or even 3 cups of water and use them sequentially. 1st cup to remove most of the paint, 2nd cup to clean off the dirty paint water residue, and then 3rd cup for clean water to use for mixing your paint. It takes some practice to always use them in the right order, but if you do this you won't have to change the water until you notice the 3rd cup looking dirty!

    I learned not to put the brushes in the water the hard way! Most of my paintbrushes are the cheap ones that are for kids that you get at the dollar store. The paintbrush bristles are sometimes messy hair, so I have to cut some of them off! Thanks for these tips! :P

    How do I dispose of acrylic paint? Would it be okay if i poured down the water the paint brush was cleaned out in down the sink?

    • @M3lart
      @M3lart  Před 2 lety +1

      Good question! Acrylic paint is water-based and is generally non-toxic, so I think it's ok to pour the water for cleaning brushes in the sink as long as it gets washed down completely and there aren't chunks of paint in it that would get stuck. For unused paint that isn't in water, it's best to let it dry out and throw the dried pieces in the trash. If you don't have one already, I recommend getting a "wet palette" specifically made for acrylic paints because it keeps the paint usable for a few days and you won't have to worry about disposing of as much paint 😄

    • @appleknocker56
      @appleknocker56 Před rokem

      The water part is ok to put down the sink.
      As a plumbers wife can tell you to never put any of the acrylic paint that way (most piping is PVC) & slowly starts sticking like a rock until need new plumbing system!

  • @melindasanz4300

    I rinsed my paint brushes in water after using them and stored them away in a cup. The bristles are stiff. Is that okay?

    • @M3lart
      @M3lart  Před 2 lety

      Should be fine, next time you use them they'll soften up unless there was paint still in the bristles. Adding a bit of soap when you rinse might help prevent the stiffness
