- I found out about this amazing stash of old Split Window Buses and drove all night to be the first in 25-30 years to see it. Enjoy. JC.
If you or someone you know has an Old Volkswagen that might be for sale give us a call today. Jeremy (208)200-6053
by www.incomputech.com Thanks Kevin.
I was 10 years old in 1965, when Mom n Dad had to have a Beetle. It came from Davella Motors in Meriden Conn. Panama Beige. As a kid I remember the glass cabinet full of diecast Microbus models
Never had one, but always loved 'em...
Just bought me a completely original 1969 bus with 29k miles on it for 1800. The thing even has great floors that pass the screwdriver test. It sat in a garage for 30 years. Craigslist score.
These were cool to me when I was a boy in the 60's, now they are totally awesome...
if i had the money they all would come home with me!
i love them all! sweet classics for sure!
Man I would kill for that double cab. So awesome!
I had a 58 bus back in the 80's. I'm amazed the price these things get these days. By today"s standards those things were a death trap. Under powered, lousy brakes, lousy heater. Mine had about 2-3 inches of play in the steering, and I think that was standard. Driving in a cross wind you had to turn the wheel 45 degrees into the wing to stay straight on the road. At your knees there was one thin layer of sheet metal between you and any potential collision. All that being said, it makes me smile every time I see one on the road.
Can't believe more of them aren't restomoded; why not do the bodywork and put a modern Subaru motor and trans with real brakes and a decent suspension?
loved it hope to see rest of the story
That's quite a collection. They are really almost completely air tight. The insides look pretty good in most of them !! From an air-cooled fan and owner 😍🚗
oh man - it's heaven!
I guess Im kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good site to stream newly released series online ?
@Gary Emmitt I use FlixZone. Just google for it =)
@Keenan Aden Definitely, been using FlixZone for months myself :D
@Keenan Aden thank you, signed up and it seems to work =) I really appreciate it!!
@Gary Emmitt Glad I could help :D
they are gorgeous I wish I could have them all.
Yes they are. Thanks for watching. JC.
Love those early double cabs. I don't think I've ever seen one in my area.
59/60 are pretty uncommon. Thanks for watching. JC.
Awesome finds! Hopefully the cats that left those paw-prints were able to get into the barn to keep the mice down before the doors were opened!
Say, is that barn half-collapsed or something? Despite their long sleep, they look decently salvageable! Ha! Love the turtle with skates! XD
Half the Barn had collapsed. As for cats there was a dead one on the front seat of the single cab and most of the buses had some pretty bad mouse smell in them. What do you expect for being stuck in a barn for 30 years. JC.
Volkswear Ew. Still, like you say, about what you'd expect after all those years!
I remember back in the 60's my dad and his twin brother each had a single cab VW truck. My dads was a brown 59 and his brothers was a red 59.
Me and my twin brother use to have 11 windows back in the late 90's. His a 58 and mine a 57. Man I miss it
nothin better then the ride there, antisapating what your going to find, hope they get to follow you back,
ive found that moving fast on those kinda deals is key, but at 85k l just dont see it either,
oooh sorry to hear that , pity it could not be kept hush ,hush as for Greedy yeah they are a Collector item
Mustie1 6
What a colection 👍✌️
OVER a hundred grand in just those four split window vans AND PICK UPS!!!
What a great collection. Thanks for the vid!
Wish my back yard looked like that
I can barely contain my jealousy and admiration!
That is a crazy collection. Very cool.
It is pretty crazy to find this many in one place these days. Thanks for watching. JC.
Thanks for sharing, great find and great video!
Thank You. JC.
I'm in love with the dove blue doublecap!!! and i'm love the karmann
I'm proud to be the owner of a 1963 Split Kombi here in Port Townsend, WA and I'm hanging on to her at any cost!!!
The ONLY mods I ever did to it was to cut out the radio block plate in order to install a iPod car deck, amplifier, and even a subwoofer inside a custom enclosure that fits inside the original wheel of the full-sized spare tire behind the front seat (mine is a 1/3-2/3 bench seating system) when I acquired her back in June 2002 (for a mere $1,200 bucks at that!!!), there were already tons of mods, both wanted and unwanted.
So first, the wanted mods that were already done:
12-volt conversion
12-volt wiper motor
1600cc dual-port engine
Unwanted mods that were already done:
Stewart Werner fuel gauge
Beetle speedometer (90 mph from 61-64)
4-way signal switch (1966-67)
aftermarket jerry-rigged key and push button (hot wired) ignition switch
cut-out wheel wells in the back (to fit bigger tires, also unwanted)
jerry-rigged football chin guard-style front bumper and pipe-shaped rear bunper
cut and band-aid job inside the back to more easily access the fuel gauge sender
So I went out of my way and even shot my wallet off a few times to try to bring her back to split bus specs except for the motor and 12-volt electrical gear,
OEM 12-volt VDO Split Bus gas gauge
OEM 80 mph VDO Split Bus speedometer
OEM original style ignition switch with key profile 3V5 with original VW cut-out keys
OEM door handles
OEM-style safety belts
There are just too many things I did to her to name off in one reply, so I'll let you guys see for yourselves when I upload a vid of my Bus later on this year, I think you guys will dig it!!!
Thanks, and keep them split buses runnin' like champs!!! Peace out,
Ray Jackson
I look forward to seeing a video of it Ray. Thanks for watching and commenting Brother. JC.
you guys (and the rest of the world) will get to see it for yourselves once I get the Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X997 iPod deck (I also have an identical one currently in my 1999 New Beetle GLS) installed in her (she currently has a Sony MDX-C5970 MiniDisc in her in that cutout for it I made on her), I think you'll be stoked!!! And thanks for writing me back, it's great people like you guys that make owning these beauties so fun!!!
Thanks,
Ray Jackson
JACKPOT!!! I love the quad cab and single cab bus pickup!!!
Unobtainium at its best. JC.
which one had four cabs?
Gold mine! Working on my 69 ghia now! Hope to meet up with you on the road 👍
There is food porn, real porn ...and then there is this spectacular vintage VW porn. Thanks for sharing. It inspires me that I may be able to find my vintage camper van soon to fix up and explore the Pacific Northwest.
Good Luck in your search. Hopefully you find one and the owner is more interested in seeing it go to a good home than trying to squeeze every penny out of you he can. The VW hobby is a rich mans game these days and its getting harder and harder for the true enthusiast to find a good deal without breaking the bank. Best of Luck to you. JC.
Ok guys, Who remember's the bus boys safari windows like the set on the blue double cab?🖐
I actually use to have a set back in the day when everybody back then despised them.
Like you work in the volkwagen 👍
great barn find!
This is the kind of stuff you wish all hoarders had laying around. Thanks for watching. JC.
Fascinating... I think I have to get a VW :-)
excellent find!
Pretty cool find for sure. Thanks for watching. JC.
I need that single cab!
The single was pretty cool. The Blue DC was the best of the bunch. JC.
I have had offers on my 66 for $5,00 without anything done to it. I wouldn't dream of ever selling my sweet Listbeth (Salander). She will get a complete mk4 electrical conversion, ALH TDI with an Audi 4.2 V8 engine on its side for cooling, Porsche brakes and suspension as well as 11" Carrera turbo Lobster Claw wheels with 305/30/19 rubber in back. Custom press fit spacers, sleeves and rings have been machined after many hours I spent on my Smithy 3n1 and 372 mm rotors are now mounted up front on the 944 S2 aluminum hubs with ABS tone rings. I am having a blast working on her. Audi A4 leather seat inner foam has been shaved down with a reciprocating turkey knife so as to get my head out of the clouds so I can actually see through the windshield. My favorite in this was definitely the orange and white doka repairvan.
pretty sick collection. Great running into ya bro
Good seeing you. Couldn't close the deal on this one. Found out today on a reddit post that the guy sold them to someone out of Arizona. The dude went dark on us this week and didn't even bother to call or email us and let us know he'd sold them. Pretty silly the way this deal ended. JC.
You got me drooling
best cars ever made!
I personally love the bay windows
Save them all!!
Goddamn are they all things of beauty or what!!!, this coming from a proud owner of a 1963 Kombi here in Port Townsend, Washington that I've had since picking "PimpWagen" (as I christened her) up for a mere $1.200.00 back in 2002, as the owner had to sell it as he was having a second kid and needed the money. He was originally asking for $1,500 but she needed some work so I talked him down to $1,200. I'm more than glad to still own her after all these years!!! She gets equal action time as my 1999 VW New Beetle GLS!!! But you guys were right, as split buses are becoming especially tough to obtain, like you said they are indeed made out of what you call "Unobtainium for The Average Joe" nowadays, so I'm glad I own her and will die with (if not die before) her as well!!!
Gold mine!
I'd take the white crew cap if you don't mind :)
I'm drooling over these! I lost my whole "running" collection when my wife of 30 years died of cancer and left me 250K in debt so I had to sell them to be able to eat. I have six boys.
Man Robert I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you are able to maybe track down another VW or two and get back into it someday. Thanks for the tip on the Double Cab. We actually have a friend up that way named Larry. Have you ever met him? He makes some really cool birdhouses. JC.
Can't say if I have or not. Just know I'll probably never get back over there. My cousin and dredging partner Wally died a couple of months ago. At present, I'm looking for a good Bay in the early 70's or late 60's but not a splitty. Bays will do freeway speeds without grunting but I don't want one with a 914 engine in it.
2 and a half mins in and had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Thinking what all I could sell to bring everyone of em home...anyone want a small farm? Lol
Love em :)
Somebody is going to end up loving them. Looks like they are on their way to Arizona. JC.
Nice stash
Yes it was. JC.
those headphones are cool
Y it has been kept for dusty n rusty . Seem really heart broken the she's been left dear owner plz rebuild vw van I really love to watch this vedio again if u wish me to watch again when u re paint it n build up again the engine . Thanks for show me a picture vw .
I sure hope you were able to get some of them and at least have one of them follow you home this trip?
$$100K easily in VWs on that property. Hell, I would have driven for three days to get my hands on one of the split windows.
Wow the brand new price is only 2-3% of the worn out price!
wow! Did you talk in the video at all?
We did do some talking. I'll see what I can do to get the subtitles set up. Thanks for the reminder to do that? How is your Bus coming along? JC.
What's up with all buses? Are you taking some home? I'm working on front end to lower 3.5" with dropped spindles. I took arms and everything off and replace with seals and bearings. Ready to install them back on. Got new smoothie rims, trying to figure out about put white powder coat over the silver powder coat that already on the rims :-O
el paraiso😍😍
the double cab pick ups :0
Pretty cool. JC.
So i fall into the 'cant afford it' category, im restoring a 1961 beetle with my dad, but they are worth like 1/4 of a restored split, less sometimes. now my sob story is over, can i have one!?!?! haha
I'm in the same category apparently. After stringing us along for several weeks the owner sold them to another guy out of Arizona. We had agreed to his original ask price but after a bunch of people started to really show interest in them the owner got greedy and decided he needed $85,000.00 for the lot. Too much money for what he had IMO. We didn't even get a phone call back to let us know he'd sold them to someone else. Found out about it on a Reddit post. Thanks for watching. JC.
So sad to see. So many and just sitting for years. Hopefully someone will free them soon.
Someone had to pay $85,000 to free them but they've been liberated. Thanks for watching. JC.
someday I want one of these microbuses so my name isn't irrelevant hehe
nooo save them !
Are those 1954 Volkswagen Vans?
I like the vw trucks
it makes me wish I was old enough to drive
That red primed one missing the door looks exactly like mine as it was when I sold it for another project about 20 years ago. Some of that rust looks familiar.
It has a pretty cool fade. That isn't primer though. That color is Sealing Wax Red. Uncommon color for a Kombi. Thanks for watching. JC.
So? What was the point, did you buy them? I saw a rusty Leyland P76 out at Pannawonica one day, why don't you go check that one out
WOW!!!!
Wow indeed. Thanks for watching. JC.
so sad they were left to rot like that.
Agreed. Thanks for watching. JC.
I disagree. We don’t know those men’s story. I think they’re in pretty good condition considering their age. At least most of them were stored in a closed barn. In reality the guy who owned them kinda preserved them for the future to restore.
High beams on,blinding people?
WHERE IS THIS PLACE LOCATED, EXACTLY?
GREAT VIDEO!!!!
What is the cheapest price on a double cab VW truck these days?
what is going to do with them all
you 100% just described me there in the beginning, any recommendations for me?
so what's the story of that collection? I thought for a bit that the green bus outside was my old one, but no, it's not.
JC.
en EU te encontrabas en los pueblos así de joyas ahora los gabachos ya no te las regalan te salen carisimas. Eso sucedió en los 80tas
Its true. Everybody wants big money for stuff these days. It was a lot more fun back when nobody cared about them. JC.
that black karmann Ghia tho
mano isto e uma raridade .e uma pena CE .acabando no tenpo .
did you get to take them with you???
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Doka!
frothing :) and travel safe mate, the girls need you.
Thanks Jon Paul. All done with this adventure. JC.
So did you buy them?
Any splits for sale?
is that a stock empie exuast
👍
Thanks for watching. JC.
How can I buy this VW bus.??
so are they for sale or are they sold??
sorry that it went down that way
So what's the "story" mentioned at the beginning of the video???
They were selling everything off to buy an RV and head out on the open road. Found out today on a reddit post that they have sold them all. At one point we had a deal worked out on them but the last week or so they haven't been returning any emails or phone calls and didn't even give us the courtesy of letting us know they had sold them. Pretty weird how the deal ended up. JC.
That's too bad, especially after you got that one bus running so they could drive it and relive some memories. Was looking forward to several years of bus restoration videos from you. ;)
Columbia Falls, Montana
Southbound on I-15 the last I heard. Headed for Arizona.
I'm not gonna show this vid to a good vw nut friend of mine i think he would cry for a week
They have been pulled from their graves. JC.
Looked to me to be about 500K in type 2's. Back in 1990 I sold my 1960 crew cab for $2000 and now it's worth 30K minimum
I had a '67 single cab about 20 years ago that I bought to fix up , it had the usual rust needed brakes was complete and ran well , I bought it for $350 and a year later I sold it for $350 and shortly after that I heard the guy took the motor out and cut out the radio grill area and took it to the crusher! 😢
And a year on, what happened?
Just found this posting,updating ....
I am restoring swr 1960 kombi in the video (red)
