So it costs the same as a McLaren, has a similar power output and is road legal. And before anyone says: "Yeah but a McLaren is faster!" well here's the thing; A McLaren won't be faster in traffic. This QuadTrac may not be quick but you can just go over the cars in front of you! Oh and it has more torque.

You have to realize this is a machine to do business. It's not someone's grocery getter. The people buying these don't care about buzz words. They care about numbers to be efficient, and comfort to reduce operator fatigue.

    • @VioletGiraffe
      @VioletGiraffe Před 6 lety +20

You don’t need to be a total product expert to be excellent at marketing, in fact, that’s probably quite far down the list. Being a great communicator, negotiator and creative will come above product knowledge - you have sales people, technicians and engineers to do that bit.

Fuel consumption, price, hydraulic capability, torque & capacity, repair costs & frequency of repairs would certainly be on that short list for sure. I would imagine those buying this piece of equipment would also be very interested in customer support, possiblity of getting software to fix thier own product they bought to limit downtime, etc.

Dad bought two big cat bulldozers from the government took the motor out of one well actually everything away from it and we use that for an irrigation pump motor a big old CAT diesel and our piping had to be moved by hand the 20 foot links with a big gasket cuz it wasn't no rolling irrigation back then so to move it we had to take all the piping up move it down a field set to sprinklers up bolted all back together during the night so we can run it first thing in the morning. Yep that was a lot of fun then I got in the cab of a 1066 dad bought three of them at one time. Talk to dish the plows color Packers man I was making good time then no cabs of course.

I work for a millwright/ crane service construction company in Nebraska, about a month ago our 70t crane broke down, I was stranded on the side of the road, so I called a local farmer just a few miles away to pull the crane to his farm. He showed up with a Case Quadtrac and and we hooked up to the crane, now the crane weighs a little over 120k lbs and this monster of a tractor pulled me like i was a ford ranger. Unbelievable power!

I have quite a few friends in Cyr Plantation and Hamlin who grew up on potato farms, hell, I even worked for a farmer for about two years during the annual potato harvest. The smell of a running diesel engine and seeing the sunrise over the horizon was a beautiful thing to see every day. Working on a farm is a lot of hard work but, it can be very rewarding too. Mr.Leno, thank you for representing the farming community out here! ( ^_^. )

    Hey Jay,
I used to have a 1979 IH SCOUT CUSTOM DELUXE 4x4. DON'T snicker!!!
It was a good, strong, sanely sized, reliable machine which served me well for almost 40 years!
He didn't trust the comparable "JEEP" models like the CHEROKEE or God forbid the roll prone CJ's! He liked "IH" SCOUT II instead because of the heavy truck legacy they had and that unlike Jeep, IH manufactured almost everything in the machines it made. It was my DAD'S "gift" to me in my Junior Year in High School for working for him around his building since I was a young kid. (He was the SUPT. of an 84 family, multi-sized units: Studios up to 3BRm 5&1/2 total with 2BthRms and private balconies.) as "unpaid, in house" help.
Heck! I even learned how to lubricate and manually operate the HUGE boiler that supplied HEAT&HOT WATER to the tenants. A job I did more than once, alone, when my DAD was too sick or exhausted to do so himself. He NEVER took a day off and only ONE proper vacation in 14 years on the job. Only a bad heart attack and his advanced age - 76 at the time. Already FAR beyond normal retirement! - forced him to finally quit. He was a real "hands on" SUPT. Did ALL the repairs himself, prepped apartments with his porters for the next tenants, even did the yard work on our extensive grounds. He wasn't a trained mechanic himself so he greatly admired those who were and engineers in general. You and he would've gotten along GREAT together!
Our "FLAGSHIP" and my DAD'S pride and joy was a 1974 CHEVY CHEVELLE MALIBU CLASSIC 4 door SEDAN with 350-V8 engine. He could've ordered a much larger engine but this was the one in the model he test drove so he bought it. You know about this engine for sure right? Even in an over 2 ton car with 3 speed, non overdrive transmission, fully loaded with passengers and cargo... It could still easily FLY when you mashed the pedal to the floor!!! It was amazing and compared to his old, terrible 1969 6 cylinder NOVA?... THIS was a ROLLS ROYCE! We kept the MALIBU in the family, garaged, for 44 years! It was finally sold to someone who we knew would appreciate it as much as we did; because my Mom passed away and I couldn't keep it myself, it had to go but I weep for it every night. A lot of "firsts" and very pleasant memories in our lives were milestoned in it as is true for many of our cherished, motorized, four wheeled "friends", eh? You understand completely I'm sure.
Sadly? I don't even have a photo of it to share with you. It was in a light green color with a matching vinyl roof. Bench seats. AM radio. An AMERICAN classic of the era.
HUGE by today's standards the four door CHEVROLET CHEVELLE MALIBU CLASSIC of 1974 was actually considered a "MID SIZED" car?!!! Only the wider, larger IMPALA was classified as a "FULL SIZE".
I've enjoyed your work since you first appeared on Johnny Carson's "TONIGHT SHOW" as a guest, then a guest host. You were FANTASTIC as his successor, all due respect to your rivals for the job.
I try to follow EVERYTHING you do and I hope to one day catch your live nightclub act, hopefully nearby in one of the Connecticut casinos.
Best of wishes to you and your family!
    Sincerely,
    Your fan,

Granted, we never had the big articulated models on the farm, but still big machines for a kid to be operating. That's definitely one highly advanced piece of machinery though.. It's also funny to me when people look at a Farmer's old beat up truck and comment about how poor they must be.. when they've got literally supercar money in some of their equipment stored, uncovered, in a dirt lot until it's time to use it.

Did you see the police-escort they had for filming?
I don't think the cops can let you scoop up random cars.

You need the extra torque and traction for the steep canyon roads.

Freedomquest08 Lmao such an idiot. There's so much farming done in California. That's why it's the 6th largest economy in the world. A state having a bigger economy than whole fucken continents.

I think they should hire this salesman to do all the Jay Leno's Garage videos with Jay. I couldn't shut this video off, it was so interesting.

Agreed it is amazing, but it is not easier to drive than a normal [modern] tractor.
So it requires a special operator, one who is more careful than most.
The key issue when driving a tractor is not tearing the land up, which tracks makes both easier & harder. As a wheeled tractor will spin, telling you to slow down, while a tracked tractor won't tell you are f-ing up until you really F-up and need the tow cable under the front.

As much as I love your show Jay, this was a real treat. Especially watching you drive a tractor while the police are keeping your lane clear imagine some poor SOB of a Tesla driving beside you and all the sudden you're left turn blinker comes on. About the only thing I'm missing our cameras all about but I guess that's really not important in the field unless you're looking for other equipment working around you. Anyway this was a great treat thank you very much glad you're feeling better and you look greatp
