Aberffraw, Anglesey: Early Morning Photography

- In this landscape photography video I'm out just after sunrise for a walk on my local beach at Aberffraw, Anglesey. I discuss how I film my CZcams videos, with a little landscape photography along the way. I'm actually out walking my dog, Winnie the Pooch on this one, and it's a regular activity which brings me a good deal of landscape photography opportunities which I haven't shared with you in the past.Hopefully I'll be able to bring you along on video more often using my new DJI Osmo Action 3 camera. I also discuss my new "everyday" lens choice.

A lovely relaxing watch, the beach looked lovely I could almost smell it. Winnie looks so happy wandering about, it’s a joy to see. I have the 14-140 lens on a Panasonic body, it really is a good all rounder and punches above its price point. Thank you for sharing yours and Winnie’s walk 👍
Hello Sue, yes I was quite surprised how good that lens is. Noticeably better than the Olympus equivalent. 😊👍

Hello Steve, thanks so much for watching. Yes, as you will have seen I was very impressed with the footage from this camera even if just used as a point-and-shoot. It's nice not to have to mess about with settings for video, as I prefer to concentrate on the photography. I think I'll enjoy not having to concentrate on two things at once! 😊👍

No need to apologise, it was a lovely stroll in the estuary with your beautiful dog. I also appreciate learning the correct pronunciation of Welsh place names, something I think is important, and you always tell us where you are, unlike some other CZcams contributors. I have many cameras collected over the years and appreciate what you say about having the right one for the situation and not weighing yourself down with unnecessary gear.
My second hand car comes from Anglesey, and how it made it to Manchester I don’t know. But I feel it has a strong hankering to go back and visit, so we shall see, perhaps later in the year.

What a happy dog. Great video. My dog walking camera is the OM-5 and the 12-100/4.0 lens.
Hello David, many thanks for watching. I can certainly see the attraction of the OM5, and if I didn't already have the OM1 I would probably have indulge to myself. Also, the 12-100 was the first lens I acquired when I switched to Olympus, and I really enjoyed it. 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery The OM-1 is a great camera. I use mine for my more serious outings. The OM-5 is for my more fun outings like dog walking.

Hello Peter, thank you so much for tuning in. I think now that I have an easy means of making this sort of video they probably will be much more to come. I do an awful lot of walking, but in the past haven't videoed much of it because it's been such a complicated affair, especially when I want to concentrate on my stills photography. So, hopefully this little gadget will do the trick 😊👍

We're off to Lligwy for a weeks holiday on 2nd May with the caravan so hope to get at least some photography in whilst on the island.

Cheers Jim, yes, I never take it for granted that I'm lucky enough to live in such a scenic location. I think that has a lot to do with my enthusiasm for photographing and filming it. And I've certainly never been reticent to encourage other people to visit. 😊👍
I use the same setup. DJI has an amazing horizon and sound options are great too. A collar or chest strap frees the hands. I got my dog an instago350 so she can clog too haha. 😅. Great walk. And photos
Hi Roberto, I'm not sure an action camera would last 30 seconds strapped to Winnie the Pooch!! Haha. And I've thought about a chest harness, but I just can't bring myself to walk around in one! I'll probably just find some way to clip it onto a bag strap if I need a full hands-free experience 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery yes walking around with a man bra is a bit silly. With the horizon thing a clip on is good now. I also got a neck mount.. little less obvious walking the streets

Yes, working out how best to video stuff has caused me a bit of head scratching as I've always wanted to make the most of the photography and video gradually took over as being more and more what I was spending my time doing went out and about. So hopefully this will ease the burden and mean that I still enjoy the photography but can make more videos as well 😊👍

Hi Robin, yes, I never take it for granted that I'm lucky enough to live round here. As someone who's seen it for themselves I'm sure you can understand that. But you were probably quite lucky to see it in these sorts of conditions, because the weather here can more often than not be somewhat challenging! 😊👍

Nothing to worry about re: production values, looks good to me Dave. Nice little vlogging set-up, the Action 3 camera seems to be rather good. I recently switched up my vlogging gear, which includes a GoPro Hero112. Hopefully that wasn't a mistake and it doesn't melt! Cheers! 🍻
Cheers mate, I was quite taken aback at how good this little gadget is. I was really just after something small and reliable, but it has blown me away with the quality of the stabilisation. I guess it's just been so long since I used an action camera that I just assumed it wouldn't be much better than it used to be, when it was rubbish! I was out with James and Mali a couple of weekends ago and they use a Hero and said that it often just shuts itself off mid recording. Back when I had one a long time ago, one day it just bricked itself. Absolutely dead for no reason. Never went back to them 😊👍

I've used that Lumix 14-140mm lens for a long time and it's great for travelling, light, great image quality and good all rounder. Good to see you out and about again. So have you decided which exotic destination you are off to yet?
Hi Pete, well, I've got a friend in Canada who I haven't seen since 2019 and we have been talking about arranging a get together, so there's that. I certainly fancy the Colorado Rockies as well, but top of the list at the moment is southern Peru and northern Bolivia. 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery Ali and I spent six months there and enjoyed both. Peru for the culture and the Andes and Bolivia for the same. We watched a CZcams on the Potosi silver mines the other night, Ali made the deepest descent by a woman! The trekking in both areas is superb. Oh and crossing the Salar de Uyuni is a must
Lovely area, Dave. You said you switched to the Panasonic 14-140mm because you had to work harder to get similar results on the Olympus 14-150mm. Do you mean you had to do more work in post or at the time of capture (or both). Interestingly, I'd never really counted the Panasonic as an all-in-one solution but after seeing your results and hearing your thoughts on the lens, I may have to reconsider.
Hello Andrew, it's fair to say that it could've just been the particular 14-150 example which I had, but I replaced it and found the same issues. It would regularly miss focus, only marginally but noticeable. So I would be using manual override to tune it more accurately, which was a bit of a headache sometimes. And there was definitely a softness to the rendered image, which is understandable given the physics of light and the extreme focal range which they tried to shoehorn into a contact lens. This could relatively easily be compensated for in processing for the most part and certainly not noticeable when shared on social media, but wouldn't be of sufficient quality for printing. And from time to time and image presents itself which I want to capture when I just happened to be out and about, but certainly wouldn't be of a standard which I would be able to print for sale.
In all honesty I didn't hold out much hope that the Panasonic would be any better, but as I wanted an all in one super zoom, I thought I would give it a try and then if it didn't work out I would simply sell it on. Suffice it to say that I'll be keeping it.
Of course, it won't get a huge amount of use because it is really only for accompanying me when I'm doing something other than photography and just want to carry a camera in my bag as I never leave home without one. And more often than not it doesn't get used. Although there have been occasions given that I live in such a scenic location when I've been very glad to have one with me.
For any serious work I'll always use my pro zoom lenses, or primes 😊👍
