- Xeno Crisis is a 2023 Nintendo 64 release of a multidirectional shooter homebrew video game developed and published by Bitmap Bureau. The premise takes place in Outpost 88, a scientific research facility overrun by aliens. The facility sent a distress signal, leading Commander Darius dispatching space marines John Marsh and Sarah Ridley to confront the aliens.

Welcome back, Glenn! I couldn't be happier to see your reviews resurfacing after your absence. Let me tell you, the past few days have truly felt like the biggest gift for any gaming fan. Your return is like a breath of fresh air, bringing back that excitement and passion we've all missed. Your unique perspective and genuine love for gaming have always resonated with me, and I'm grateful to have you back in the community. Your reviews have a way of connecting with us on a deeper level, and I can't wait to dive into your future content. Thank you for coming back, Glenn, and reminding us why we fell in love with gaming in the first place.
Thank you so much that’s very kind - I have a new project I’m working on mentally to figure out how best to deliver it on this channel but once I crack it I think it’ll be really enjoyable for everyone!
I agree 🤜💥🤛
@@n64glennplant are you going to review return from Yoshi's island by Kaze Emanuar when it's out? It's probably going to be one of the most impressive N64 titles when it's out.
@@MrGil1995 yes I hope to as soon as it’s ready
Another new video from Glenn, he is definitely back!. I couldn't agree more with the comments, I have seen ALL of your Nintendo 64 reviews and the fact that you have uploaded 2 new reviews in recent days makes me immensely happy, Glenn is our "Sega Lord X" like a living legend for Nintendo 64 fans like me and all of us. His return is the best possible news :)
Haha you know I’m a big fan of sega lord x too!
Agreed 🙌
You just have to respect that the lads at Bitmap Bureau managed to get a new game this excellent playing on various platforms.
Exactly, like I said I’m just happy there’s a lot of projects in the works now for n64 - it’s taken long enough!
Waiting to see if anyone can make a modern N64 game that looks like an actual N64 game.
Legend 64 is doing just that but don’t think it’s running on hardware it’s more of a style
@@n64glennplant wow I actually found a game on switch called super kiwi 64 after hunting for new n64 type games. It’s pretty bare bones but has graphics very similar to n64 graphics.
I agree that they should've made this and the Dreamcast version 4 players!
Wouldve been so much fun.
Who knows maybe a sequel one day may add that
Cool as that might be, I feel things would get a bit TOO hectic with 4 players on screen .
Good to see consistent uploads from ya Glenn. Make sure to take care of yourself & your health first of all though 🙂
Thanks, I’ll be taking a break over December and maybe January but I’ll see how I get on
Thanks for bringing this game to my attention, Glenn. Never heard of it before. I'm tempted to buy the rom but I think the £18 asking price is a bit much. I might wait until Christmas before I purchase this for my everdrive.
You could always drop them an email and see if they’re doing any promos what with Black Friday coming up etc
A game I can see on Glenn Plant, The Dreamcast Junkyard, Sega Lord X, and SNESdrunk at the same time
What a time to be alive haha
Wow, I had no idea this has an N64 release! And you were spot on, a two-pad control method would've been perfect for this. Oh well. I would've loved if they'd done a "XenoCrisis 64" version with polygons, maybe looking like the interior bits of Body Harvest or something like that, but we can always dream. But who knows what's next. Paprium 64?
Paprium 64 would be lovely to see!
Fonzie (and the rest of Watermelon Games) is a real scam artist. I wouldn't trust that guy to get an n64 game out.
Love this game! Got to play the Neo-Geo version and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good to see you back, Glenn.
I can imagine it’s a lot of fun on neo geo!
Always great to see the console's fanbase is still going! Love this console dearly and your videos only give me more reasons to love it. Great to see more videos from you!
Glad you like them!
wow! makes me happy to see new games coming out for the N64
I think it's a console that never got to show it's full potential
There’s finally some really cool projects on the way to look forward to
Thanks for covering this, Glenn. I have it on the Genesis. Been thinking for a while about double-dipping and getting the 64 version, because exactly as you said, new n64 carts don't exactly appear every day, but the price has been a little hard for me at the moment, especially for something I already own on another system. I think my hope for the game is that the music would at least be upgraded in some way to sound like an n64 soundtrack, instead of perhaps just recorded versions of the Genesis soundtrack.
Interesting that you mention issues with the controller. I was imagining that the analog stick would actually help a lot! Potentially a d-pad + analog stick control scheme would feel most natural in my mind.
Also really appreciate you mentioning the lack of 4-player compatibility. That's a real bummer. Yes, there'd be a lot going on on the screen, and it might disrupt the difficulty balancing of the game from what the developers intended, but man, this game would *kill* with some friends and a retro game night and a 4-player mode. Serious missed opportunity there.
Thanks for the great review!
That’s my thoughts, given how hard the game is I think with 4 players it might actually be finishable for a group of friends
I am glad to see you back Glenn. I missed your reviews.
thank you, missed being here too
A new N64 game that wasn’t simply a release of an older game from that time period!? Fascinating!!
Quite cool hey
Before the video, I almost thought this was an old N64 game you hadn't reviewed yet. Speaking of which, great to, again, see you back this past week.
You know they should have marketed it as a lost and found game that would have been so funny
Glad to see a new video from you and for this great game.
I think making it 4 players will kinda break the flow of the game they originally intended. After all the main platform for the game it's the Megadrive with its pros and cons. Let's accept it, this is a port of the MD version, no more and no less (Ok, some extra info on screen, voice quality but you get it), mostly to make it available to all people who wanted to play the game but doesn't have a MD console. That's the real reason this exists and I understand that you wanted more specific stuff related to the console it was ported on but in the end it wasn't the plan and it shows. Xeno Crisis still is a fantastic game no matter where you play it and I'm so glad it's available in almost every major console for all people to enjoy.
Now, if they one day make an N64 game as the main system of development then I'm sure they'll use the specific features of the console.
A few people have said paprium would be a cool port to see and I’d be up for seeing that on n64!
Yeah, I've given this a whirl on Steam and quite enjoyed it. A bit repetitive but great for pick up and play stuffs, but I couldn't resist the Aliens vibes. Good to see the N64 is still pelting out content.
Yeah the alien vibes are strong AF in this one, even down to characters etc. hopefully they’ll do a sale before the end of the year so more people can check it out on n64
Its amazing to see you back!🎉 I always go back to your old reviews! Just after buying a complete boxed copy of blast corps for my collection 😁
Hope you enjoy it!
Ah man, I loved playing this with the c-buttons. It's how I play Robotron 64 too.
Seems to certainly have its fans!
Definitely an underrated gem.
Hopefully we can fill their coffers with some sales and get another new n64 game out of them in the coming years 😁
Great to see you back loved this on the Mega Drive this is a solid enhanced version of the game with less slowdown thanks to the extra horsepower plus better quality sound thanks to the increase cart size to 8MB. Four players would have likely caused slowdown as the N64 isn't built for 2D games.
Hmm I’d be very dubious if that was an official reason given for not being 4 players. I’d honestly believe it’s more likely the extra development cost vs potential returns wouldn’t justify the cost in doing so. Nothing against the studio as at the end of the day I’d rather they stay in business right 😁
N64 can do 2D as well as any other system, just down to the devs and if they can overcome the complicated, difficult to master hardware and dev environment I think.
I have seen this game around before, and I'm happy that the creator of the game got their game on retro gaming consoles the creators maybe grew up with. Cool video. ^_^
Yeah it certainly feels like a passion project
@n64glennplant Hopefully, they continue creating more passionate games and fall under greed like many other gaming companies. ^_^
Oh man I’m so happy that you’re back!I absolutely love your videos!
Thank you, second upload in a week means I’m well and truely here again 😂
@@n64glennplant Haha be careful, you have overwhelmed many of us with that second Video pretty fast!
XenoCrisis pushes every console to its limits when it comes to gameplay.
The lack of 4 player is a shame. The other two controller ports are right there! It would offset the difficulty as well.
Yeah that’s what I was kind of thinking the whole time
So happy to see you back! nice review and thanks for all the hard work!
And thank you for watching!
Welcome back Glenn. It's a game for hardcore 2d shooters fans, they make it look easy to beat!
Ultra hardcore more like! Don’t think I’ve seen a “normal” player get past level 3 themselves 😁
So nice to see another upload!
May I suggest something if thats ok? Since you have been gone, there has been a lot of innovation within the N64 modding scene; such as the N64 HD mod, some cool stuff to do with removing the filters from the N64 and we even just got the ANALOGUE N64 announced. Id love to see a video covering what you have been following and what you have got; or what you personally like or find to not be in the spirit of N64 etc.
Anyway hope you're well!
I’ve had the ultra hdmi mod for years now but I leave the more techy related stuff to people who know better like MVG. I do however have a project that’s very different and unique I’ll be launching on this channel in the coming months!
@@n64glennplant Awesome! I also can't wait to see some more N64 magazine stuff. I absolutely adore those
I have the evercade version of the game and couldn’t agree more about the difficulty. I really wanted to play the game more but could only reach the second boss. Glad to see more reviews!
Glad I’m not the only one I was starting to think I’d become absolutely terrible at games until I read the reviews haha
Always a pleasure dude! Glad to hear you had the same thoughts about the lack of dual-controller twin-stick control options here; such a missed opportunity when games like Robotron 64 allowed for it back in the day. I would've totally picked up a copy, but without any optimizations for the N64 hardware like this or 4-player support it just feels like a game that belongs on the Genesis.
Just curious, why did you decide to stop collecting physical? As for myself it was a space and of course a cost issue. I do love this game however and play it on steam.
Prices were starting to get silly as I was a complete in box collector and just didn’t want the space taking up so much anymore
The N64 deserved more 2D games. Even the PS1 got so many of them.
As for the game it looks really cool but I'm just tired of monumentally difficult games nowadays, which is why I simply passed on it.
Yeah joys of cheaper development on ps1 helped for sure
Yo, I had no idea this got an N64 release! I'd love to see more indies pop up for the console. I had always wished the 64 got more 2D games
Yeah I do too!
It's been a while since you posted anything on this channel, welcome back.
I posted a new video last week 😉
Day 1 purchase of the CIB (US). Sure, I would have liked a polygon makeover, like they did with C&C, however I'm just pleased we got a port at all, as it's not (yet) on my other consoles.
Yeah, a polygon makeover would've been sweet
Yeah I’m in the camp that anything new on the console is very welcome these days
@@n64glennplant The four player option would be nice, especially if it came with 3 other people to game with 🙂
Oh shit! He actually ported this to the N64? I had it on the Genesis. I had emailed him a couple of times begging for a N64 port. This is outstanding news! It's a fantastic game, even if it is harder than balls on fire.
Damn! He's been busy, apparently. He's busted out ports for N64, SNES and Gamecube, as well as the earlier versions for the Genesis and Dreamcast. If I had the money I'd buy the damn game for every console.
Very cool right, I’ve linked it up in the description 🤘
FINALLY Glenndust has come back… Home.
If you smelllllllllllll
Talk about "raising from the dead" it's great that older consoles are being supported long after the consoles death especially n64.
Haha that includes myself!
This game looks amazing for a Mega Drive title. But i wish they would add some visual improvements on the more powerful system ports.
Yeah I guess it’s all a costs vs returns basis at this stage and so the additional sales would likely not cover costs to change it
Well they could've add a few low polygonal assets just to flesh out and make it more distinct the N64 & Dreamcast version compared with the 16bit consoles
Yeah it’s tough because everyone has their own views on what would be best to change this up for different consoles but it’s available on so many systems now
Robotron 2084 on midway classics on n64 was great with dpad and c buttons
You’d have no problems enjoying this….i personally prefer doing the twin stick n64 solution some games offered using 2 pads
It’s interesting that you felt that you needed a second stick. I have the Switch version I prefer playing it with the left stick and the right d-pad as I found it more precise than the stick. I would have thought the analogue stick and c-buttons would have been perfect. I agree that it is super tough though! I’m yet to get further than the 4th stage on easy.
Wow the fact you made it to stage 4 without cheating shows you must be a pretty good player at this!
Good to have ya back, Glenn!!
Thanks for the positivity man!
Great to see you back Glenn with another video. I'm thinking about getting a US physical copy on the Nintendo 64 and/or Super Nintendo and GameCube if the feel is good as it looks. It looks good.
Can you do a Nintendo 64 game collection update video the accessories and peripherals as well?
I stopped collecting many, many years ago now
@n64glennplant I understand but I meant show your collection and your N64 accessories.
@@MiguelPerez-cn4ee I sold my collection off years ago now. I do keep some things needed for the channel but I’m not sat here with rows of complete in box games anymore sadly 😢
Damn that sucks but I also understand. Did you kept some? If you don't mind me asking
I hear there's a glitch involving saving hi-scores to a Controller Pak. Nonetheless, a welcome addition to the N64's software library.
I didn’t test that as I wasn’t aware but personally saving scores to the controller pak wouldn’t really be a deal breaker for me personally
2 reviews in less than a week? Christmas came early!
Out of curiosity Glenn, what game would you want to be ported to the N64?
id personally like to see a big rpg on the system, the console was definitely lacking in them
Looks great, can't beat a good room shooter, so glad new games are still reaching our beloved N64
Yeah very easy to pick up and just play this one. Hard to master though
I think you make a lot of valid points in this video. Not just about the N64 version, but of the game in general and Bitmap Bureau (BB) as a developer. Xeno Crisis has some great design, gameplay, top notch artwork and the music by Savaged Regime is out of this world amazing. Therefore it's a real shame that there are technical shortcomings and usability issues like the controls. This goes for Mega Drive, Neo Geo, the Steam release and what have you and also N64 I see. BB seem to just get the port/version done so it's good enough and then leave it no matter what feedback they get. Their games are mostly really good and they deserve at better fate and a bigger audience.
I’ve heard a sequel is in the works so let’s hope the feedback is taken on board
@@n64glennplant A Xeno Crisis 2 would be amazing. Let's hope they get the same crew back together. Savaged Regime needs to be on the music for sure :)
Good to see you're back Glenn! It's been a long time!
Feels that way for sure
Wow! This is a title I haven’t heard in a long time! Welcome back, Glenn 😀🙌❤️
Thanks! Certainly a fun addition to the n64 library

I wonder if Bitmap Bureau will bring Final Vendetta to N64. Got that for my Switch. Only disappointment I have with Bitmap Bureau is that they aren't a revamped Bitmap Brothers from the Amiga days
Man bitmap brothers were my childhood. Loved the Amiga, one of my favourite set of memories getting all the different models over the years.
They didn’t make it 4 player on Dreamcast a couple of years ago so i didn’t expect it on the n64 which is a shame.
Yeah I agree
Nice, balanced review. But I didn't know there was a cheat menu! How do you access that?
I picked up a physical PAL copy a few months back, I like to support new physical N64 releases where I can.
I’m actually trying to remember but if you google it you should find the button combo to use on the title screen!

Ah, my favorite N64 channel is back!
nice to see you still here, yours is always a name I remember popping up a lot
I just discovered that this was on N64, when I started browsing what it was and saw it had a Switch version I started having a inkling that I seen this game before and yeah turn out this game is already on my wish list on the Switch, I just don't remember when I added it there.
Times are a bit tight for me but I would love to get the N64 physical version as well as 40 Winks since I wish to play that game first.
- Yes as soon as I saw this game I believe that it should be a 4 player game. (STILL not a deal breaker [since I have no one to play with me] but still a bummer)
- What really is a shame for me to hear is that the main way to shoot in the game is with the C-Buttons... is it possible to change shooting and aiming to the Z button and joystick respectively?
If not, I might buy the Switch version as well just to have a smoother way to play the game that won't kill my hands. (Yes, yes, yes modern gaming has pampered me and yes these old hands of mine can't take a challenge like they use to)
As for the lack of Twin N64 Controller Style for this game, I say I was never any goo-- * ahem * a... big fan of that play style but always appreciated and respected for having the option there.
After all that playstyle in Goldeneye made me feel like I was The-Bomb (or The-Bond and this case) and in Star Wars Racer made me feel like I was driving a real podracer.
Even though this playstyle was not really my thing I agree that it should have been in this game.
Finally happy to see you did a review of this game, thank you as always for giving info and reminders of the games of my favorite system.
The Vita port of this is incredible as well
Got the vita day 1 back in the day!
He's back at long last!!!
Since last week but I guess you missed the party 🤣
I have the Mega Drive version and enjoyed it for the most part but really as you say just to enjoy it casually you have to cheat which isn't great even on easy. I was never tempted to get the game on the N64 when they did announce it as it offers literally nothing to take advantage of the hardware and even indie games I feel should be trying to add something that makes use of the hardware it's on rather than just a direct port like this. Sadly people who support certain indie games will buy every version out of some weird tribal loyalty to it and that's all well and good but in the end they are simply selling each port to the same small group of people. I would have at least liked better effects on some things when they explode or anything not possible on 16-bit hardware to make it a least a little unique.
Yeah I totally get what you mean, similar to my views really. This really needed something unique that people didn’t already see 3-4 years before on the genesis
Glad to see you're back! This game reminds me of Smash TV. Looks like it's fun to play.
Yeah it’s certainly worth trying!

Back since last week 😄
It is frankly baffling that they did not include a dpad+analog twinstick mode for this game. Pretty much takes all the air out of the N64 release.
The lack of 4-player mode was not too surprising, given that the Dreamcast port didn't have it either. But why even bother porting this to N64 if you're going to ignore twinsticks?
Is a shame, and definitely a missed opportunity

This is basically a 16 bit game...so i ll never understand the fuss about it when ported to way more powerful hardware without any sizable improvements in the gfx department..but, just like you, i m thrilled at the idea of new physical N64 games released in modern times...all things considered, i m way more inclined toward N64 40winks, thanks xD
