  • Yo what's good my friends,
    in this video I finally try one of those LED filaments to create a custom build of the 1/144 Gouf Custom. I'm also going back to diorama building as I'm going to create a custom base for the kit. For that I will be using airbrush techniques that I haven't tried before.
    00:00 - Intro
    00:20 - Unboxing
    02:05 - Scribing custom panel lines and adding details with pla plate
    03:38 - Find the correct way to add LEDs to the monoeye and making a whip out of LED filament
    07:47 - Painting the kit with Mr. Color products
    08:01 - Funny interlude
    11:01 - Adding panel lines and decals to the kit
    14:20 - Wiring the LED cables into the body
    18:32 - Building a custom display base for the kit
    28:22 - Final Reveal

    I would love to see an LED and wiring walk through (notice I skipped the word tutorial...). Knowing what oddities you encountered (as I have this kit on my shelf) would be enlightening along with your thoughts on how you solved the problem. Also, I have to say, the golden age of Eastern and Western animation was the late 80's through the mid 90's before CGI really took over everything; so yeah, I agree with you there. Nothing wrong with the digital coloration on the hand drawn cells (especially thinking about the skill those mecha key frame animators had... holy smokes...).

      @GiantRobolove  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That will definitely be a very specific video. I do have all the steps on camera, though I'm not sure anymore to which extend. It's still possible to do a walkthrough I guess, as I suppose that a lot of that also applies to HG Zakus (have not built an HG version yet). So I guess the info is applicable to other kits as well. Besides routing and wiring, is there anything else in particular that sparks your interest?
      Yeah, I have fond memories of so many shows from back then. Nostalgia hits hard haha.

I'm currently working a project of my own involving LED lighting and I'm trying out scale modeling LED's that involve no soldering from Evan Designs. Thanks! How do those no solder LEDs work? Are you talking about the ones with are being triggered by an electric conductive field?
      And yeah, be on the look out for the walkthrough. The demand has been very high, so I will oblige :)

    • @snake8586
      @snake8586 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@GiantRobolove Technically they are pre-soldered parts with connectors for things like a coin/AA/AAA battery holder, and the wire specifically for their smaller sized LED's are magnet wire. From playing around with them, all that is needed is to braid the cables together and apply heat shrink tubing on the exposed wires. You can also use solder to glue the connections, but i dont access to one at the moment. They have a youtube with tutorials on how they work, and their own website that i ordered from. Im in the US, but i believe they may ship outside too. I have seen the wireless LED's using electric conductive fields being used but i believe they need a special base to work correctly, and i wanted a custom base for my project. Hope that clarifies a bit!

      @GiantRobolove  Před 8 měsíci

      Ah I get it. I will take a look, however I think that ordering for me is not an option, since I guess shipping cost will be too high. But just knowing of them helps, maybe I can find some of them here as well. Either way, thanks for sharing 👍

    So... Where did you get that Mario hat you're wearing near the end for wiring section??
    Also. I hate how much better you are at this then me. My big question, as someone who wants to start painting, I worry about color selection (for those creative big divergences from the standard colors of the model) so you have suggestions on how to plan ahead and visualize how well the colors will go together?

    • @GiantRobolove
      @GiantRobolove  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Lol yeah that. I got it from the Nintendo at Rockefeller Center in New York waaaay back then.
      I feel you, the urge of getting better couldn't come faster. But to be honest, it's the journey that's the most fun. I would suggest that you start out with little divergences from the original colors. That way you learn to get a feeling for the right look. It comes down to patience and practice. One way to visualize a certain color scheme is to use Photoshop (or any software of similiar type) to digitally paint your kit. You can check out my video of the Aerial. There is a short section where I show how this pre-visualization process looks like.
      What also helps is to learn a bit of color theory. Knowing which colors go well together in theory will help you with your kit. You can try colors.co for example to test out how different colors look like next to each other and then go from there.
      Hope that helps :)

      It differs from kit to kit. The panel lines for this kit didn't take too long. Maybe two afternoons of work? This kit took maybe 30 hours in total including LED and base. It has a faster turn around than the Unicorn that I did before that.

    • @GiantRobolove
      @GiantRobolove  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I'm using lacquer paint for the kit and enamel paint for the panel lines. The enamel thinner only attacks the enamel paint as the laqcuer is resistant to the thinner.
