    I think the first time I saw it, was titled 'The Bicycle Thief'. Which to me was apt at the ending how it demeaned the character to such a lowly level. Bicycle Thieves just makes everyone sound corrupt and struggling from start to finish. Who and/or what invoked the title change? And don't go changing Fat Girl title because it sounds better in French according to him. LOL

    • @deplaneetegmont
      @deplaneetegmont Před 4 lety +1

      How does 'à ma soeur' ('to my sister') becomes 'Fat Girl'? What a 360° turn of a title, it's such a dramatic change, it becomes a different film(experience). Remarkable.

    • @martinpaterson6535
      @martinpaterson6535 Před 4 lety +1

      It's simply an accurate translation of the original Italian title: "ladri" is the plural; otherwise it would have been "ladro". There are of course at least two thieves, or would be thieves, in the movie... The plural has the effect of suggesting one among many, which is part of the neorealist aesthetic, in this instance a perfect mix of director de Sica's humanism and screenwriter Zavatini's political convictions.
