    This is the fun part of owning a bike + a bike you customize on your own. Making a bike your own is always beautiful.

    I enjoyed this video! Yes, motorcycle doo-dads cost a lot of $$$. It's kind of ridiculous when you really think about it. The pants and boots, too. $700 for a pair of pants? REALLY?? Well, here's a few ways I've been able to keep costs down (even though it's still not cheap).
    1. I wanted a top quality skid plate. Retail cost was $320. I paid $65 for a brand new one from a guy who bought a bunch of them on close out on ebay.
    2. You can do your own oil changes and valve checks. You can also replace your own chain, clutch plates, etc. Get a manual for $25, and $25 worth of tools and learn how to do it. You don't have to do valve clearance checks very often, anyway.
    3. Check parts availability from UK, USA, Canada, whatever. Sometimes, based on availability and favorable exchange rates, you can save up to 25%. Order on a credit card which will convert the currency for you, and back you up if there's a problem with the order.
    4. Except for cheap things like LED lights, avoid Chinese made products. These accessories will often not fit correctly, break, or rust. You will wind up paying for the good stuff, anyway. So just pay more, but pay only once. They will have no resale value if you want to remove them and sell them.
    5. Buy 2nd hand parts from ebay, your local classifieds , and so on. There'd probably be nothing wrong if you bought those levers used, or that pannier mount used, or even bought the mufflers used. Those kinds of parts don't "wear out". A used one is about as good as new one. You might save 30% - 50% off new.

    Ive got about 1700 in my '23 GT 850, but I went with 1400 in a full hitchcocks exhaust and power commander, the rest is seat cowl, adjustable levers, grip puppies, ie: odds and ends... good stuff and keep her rubber side down

    There is something about the Interceptor, isn't there? Something that makes one modify it. So far, I have bought two different seats - the brown signature bench seat and the single GT touring seat - for my Interceptor along with a pair of AEW TE-103 exhausts, bar end mirrors and a leather side panel bag. Mine is the Mark 2 (chrome and red) so I have also wrapped the side panels in red. Later on, I would want to get handlebar risers, RaceDynamics FuelX Lite and maybe an air filter mod. But before all that, I will either get a cast alloy wheel for the rear and/or a tubeless conversion for the stock wire wheels. But I have already spent a fair chunk of money on the existing mods!

      I have a feeling that interceptor and continental owners are like immature Harley owners... We are too poor to buy a HD but still put a bunch of money into customization. In Poland RE is sold next to HD in the same dealership.

    I have the S&S silencers not the race version though I found the sound with them in a little tinny sounding with DB reducers in and when I took them are out wasn't that pleasent either. So I did this I drill some holes in them and now it sounds better, more bass then before with them in and not nasty as having them out so it's a different all together. But I do ride with ear plugs in always.

      I was also thinking to drill holes in the DB Killers. I think I will try in the bottom plate. Thanks for the input.

    Kawasaki W 800 has a bevel drive, that alone makes it head and shoulders above the RE 650 engine. The Kawasaki has Japanese quality machine and RE has Indian quality. No comparison. My Sportster with gear drive has outlasted all of my Honda's put together.Cam chains are a weak spot in the engine. When they break they destroy the engine.

    • @twowheeledparadox
      @twowheeledparadox Před rokem +4

      Leg guards can cause more severe injuries. England had to withdraw a law that made leg guards compulsory after bikers actually started to lose legs because of them.

    • @bartgoodride
      @bartgoodride  Před rokem +3

      Well... Riding a bike is dangerous at a such a level that we all should drive only cars, and I find leg guards as ugly as... Possible.

      @twowheeledparadox Před rokem

      @@SouravAcharya9444 You are talking about your own personal experience. In the 1990s, there was a study that indicated that leg guards can cause more injuries than they prevent. This was in response to a UK law that made leg guards compulsory. So, if you value your body, it is better to NOT use a leg guard.

    Have you tried running the engine idle for 15min, so the ECU can adapt to the DNA filter? Curious to know if that would improve things...

      @@bartgoodride I am still doubting if I will buy the DNA filter for my interceptor. Some people swear that you feel more torque in the lower rev range, but other people do not really feel a difference...

    • @frederickwoods5943
      @frederickwoods5943 Před rokem

      The ECU won't adapt while the engine is idling, running through the gears at various engine rpm, load and speeds is the method I have used on many different bikes. Of the TEC, S&S and other aftermarket exhaust systems not a single instruction sheet says to idle the engine; particularly excessively. Don't know how this misinformation began but it has been perpetuated.

      @h2xhypocriet Před rokem

      @Frederick Woods are you referring to exhaust systems? I was wondering about the DNA air filter, if it does make a difference in torque in low rpm (and if you need to idle the engine to get it to work).
