Windows vista made it so easy to add widgets in 2006. I don't know why conky is overly complicated. I mean you modifying config files isn't a good design.

lots of windows addons that do the same thing like widgets and rainmeter still have the same thing as well tho, editing json, ini etc.. files. The only saving grace is in windows most apps like sensorpanel etc.. have their own customizable option to make your own GUI/designs. Take for example aida64 sensorpanel or rainmeter.
