I'm gonna be very numbing right now and say, this is like 10 motors and one or two microcontroller following a basic programming. You can learn what happened in this video within a month, maybe two. It looks really cool tho. The impressive part starts when the thing actually starts walking and reacting to uneven surfaces, impacts and the like. Get into basic robotics if you have a pc and some free time, it's honestly just really fun.
I dont believe anyone could just learn to build robots that quickly, just to do something like this on a small scale would be rather expensive if you choose to use servos and requires a few complex disiplines ie: mechanical design, inverse kinematics and ist implemention, and of course programming, etc
@@naomiwolf8944 I disagree. There's loads of github pages full of explanations and existing code for basic inverse kinematics like this. Like the other commenter stated...it gets impressive when it starts walking and reacting. That's because it'd require a very complex pid loop on each leg working with an imu on the top platform.
Imma just state my qualifications before I contribute to the conversation: currently in my last year of a comp. sci. degree and spend quite a bit of time fiddling with SoCs and microcontrollers. I think both parties here have some valid points but are being a tad absolutist. I think there are a lot of people capable of figuring out how to come up with something like this in a couple months; however, that would require that they either have the supplies on hand up front, know somebody who has them, or have the funds to aquire the supplies. On top of that, they need to have the time to dedicate learning a myriad of topics across many disciplines. Although I can't say this with 100% confidence, I'm fairly certain most combat robotics teams consist of several interdisciplinary team members. Whatever a brand spankin newbie came up with by themselves likely wouldn't have nearly as polished movement as the bot in the video. Another correct point made is that the "important" movement is the combat movement, and this is just a startup script. However, I don't think the point of this video was to demonstrate its combat movement. It's clearly an early stage design (hence the hardwired power/IO tether), and this may even be the only movement it has so far, but you gotta admit, it's smooth AF. Lastly, most of the combat robotics I've seen takes place on a relatively boulder free surface, so as long as it can self-right and dodge, it doesn't matter if it can traverse a jungle or not. TL;DR: Yeah, maybe SOME people can learn to build this in a couple of months, but it'd most likely be shit. Admit that the life-like movements took effort, ya boob.
Fun fact: certain spider species actually do accumulate small amounts of metal in their fangs over time, so older specimens' fangs may indeed consist of metal to a fair degree.
