I just bought this thing, and OMG!, this thing is POWERFUL! That self-propelled thing isn't a joke, and on the backpull, you can really feel it. Good luck with small throw rugs you might have in the kitchen or bathroom- this thing eats them alive, regardless of setting. Next time, I am going to use the smaller brush head for those. A 30'-foot cord is really nice, reducing the number of times I had to relocate the plug. The removable cannister with wand and brush were also kickass on the stairs, though even then the suction is unbelievable. I didn't find the noise level bad at all and the filters did their jobs. I really liked being able to switch between the different methods of operation without missing a beat.
    Just. Insane.

@@FernandoTorrera I don't have pet, just 2 kids under 3 which is better/worse in many ways. I do have Tile. This vacuum suction/flow is overkill for tile (unless you have super deep grout lines, then maybe you still need this), but it works really well on tile due to the brush head design. I can pick up moist rice and vegetable bits with it without any clogging issues. If all you have is tile, you might be better off with a battery powered vacuum for the convenience, but definitely get this if you have carpet and you want it to be truly clean.

I just bought my 1st Shark vacuum cleaner about a week ago. I didn't go fancy with the dual brush bc I have thick carpets & I already own a cordless with soft brush for my hard floors. I bought the NV560 with the anti hair wrap brush for $179 at my local Walmart & I couldn't be happier. Really glad I decided on it. Although it didn't come with a powered brush roll the upolstery tool works good. But I will be buying the anti hair wrap pet brush for my model. I cannot say enough about the anti hair brush roll. It works excellent especially when any vacuum with a regular brush roll I can clean it then vacuum & it looks like I need to do it again! So happy that I don't have to worry too much about that. There are some human hairs on it now in 2 spots but not much & mind you I have really long hair & I've also vacuumed 3 times with it! I like the lift away feature it makes it easier to clean with the wand & any attachments. It took me awhile to decide on which shark I wanted but bc I decided that the most important feature for me was the anti hair wrap brush it was a no brainier! Now the dust bin size I don't care for but it's ok bc it's easier to clean than my old vacuum was. So I'm really happy with my purchase. I love your channel BTW! It really helps when someone is trying to decide. My only helpful tips for you would be to include a clip of the sound of the vacuums. I know the mic won't exactly portray what it sounds like if someone's using it themselves but it could help in someone's decision making for a new vacuum. Just a thought. Keep up the awesome reviews!

Bought the vertex after watching and we love it. It beats my 6yr old dyson canister in everyway. Inmy opinion, it would be perfect if it had self winding cord and a place to hold 1 or 2 attachments. Its frustrating to have to run back to my closet to get a wand attachment for example instead of it being attached to the vacuum like you can on a dyson

Only 2 ways to make this vacuum better:
    A) Have a high and low suction power option: This thing is so extremely powerful with suction, it CANNOT be used on smaller light weight rugs.
    B) Better cord management (perhaps wrapping around the long wand in the back).
You must take the entire cord off to do anything other than standard upright modes. And it is very annoying to have to bend over to remove and wrap the cord.
It would be GREAT to be able to carry the unit up and down stairs in 2 pieces but you can't do that because you'll trip over the hanging cord.

I want to get my wife a new vacuum for Christmas. I can't do a lot of housework so she pretty much does all of it. So, I like to buy her nice equipment to make the work she does around here as easy as possible since I really can't help her around the house that much. I kinda set a budget at around $500. I've been recently watching reviews on vacuums just like this one, as that's what my wife wants as to what style of vacuum, and I think this review just sold me on the Shark. I had seen it mentioned in other reviews but hadn't seen it in action. I'll keep checking out some other Shark vs videos but I think I found the winner. Thank you for such a thorough and honest review.

I can't wait for more hair tests.
I love our shark, but I the debris that gets stuck behind the brush roll is nearly everytime I vaccum. (I have 4 dogs and 3 kids) and usually after a year we have to take it back to Costco. 😭 I can't recall the model name, but it the one with the max capacity bin.
In there a deep clean I can do on the brush rolls to prevent this?
The other problem I have is on my ruggables(they're machine wash areas rugs with a velco base... revolutionary) I can only move in one direction without the indicator light turning red.
Crazy thing is my shark auto sweeper works well on them, but the draw back with that is I don't get ALL the dirt and have to wash the rugs more often.

Received my vertex this morning and vacuumed the whole house. This machine is impressive! Well worth the $$$.
We have a 2-year old Hoover Windtunnel Total Home Pet vacuum, which I thought did good job for our 2 dog, 1 cat household. Ran that vacuum a couple days ago. Today, after just one room, I had to empty the Vertex canister! I was dumbfounded how much hair and particularly "dust" this beast pulled out of the carpet. The sponge filter is already a brownish color and there is some color appearing on the filter under that. I will get a couple extra so we aren't waiting for the washed ones to dry. I do note that the Vertex canister is quite a bit smaller than the Hoover. It is very easy to get lodged hair out from either the bottom or the top though. I was particularly impressed with its ability to suck up right to the baseboards. We have very short pile dark brown carpets upstairs and they show EVERYTHING. No need to get the crevice tool out to get the 1/4" of stuff left around the edges. The power head also seems to be just the right height to fit under most of our furniture and clean the visible surfaces underneath, where the Hoover always left a visible line where it stopped.
Our abundance of shed hair is typically about 2- 3 inches long. The only area that had collected hair after the whole house cleaning, which is actually really difficult to remove, is around the sides of the two little felt rollers/wheels just behind the Duoclean roller.
I never valued the idea of a light or swivel steering, but having used this Vertex, both are really useful - surprising. The amazing suction from the Vertex means that the edges of rugs do get pulled up as you pull back near the edge. Also, the quite noticeable forward "pull" of the power head takes a little getting used to. And you really are better off leaving the canister on to get that extra weight when vacuuming a carpet. I do notice that the rollers have a slight delay before they start building up speed on carpet.
I was worried about the included self-cleaning pet tool as it was not the motorized one. The same type of tool on the Hoover bogs down and can only be used to apply light strokes. The Shark tool slows down from no load speed on carpet but I found it impossible to stop it rotating. The suction is very powerful indeed. The lift away feature is great for stairs. At least a couple times, I've had a bleeding head would from a vacuum that has tipped on me while doing stairs! The wand hose though is a little short for lift away motion.
One last comment - the tool caddies on either side aren't much use. I found the tools fall off, especially when removing the canister assembly for operating in lift-away mode.
Hoping the vacuum lasts (and the VIP 5 year warranty works if not!). It seems to be a fairly sturdy design for all plastic parts, but regular use can be hard on vacuums.

I was confused by all the Shark Vertex marketing materials showing just fins on the roller, when mine is fins AND brushes.
Here is the explanation from Shark...

The AZ1002 is actually the one which has a roller with just fins."

I just bought this vacuum at BestBuy for $249. It’s a fantastic vacuum! I had two Dysons before this Shark and I thought they were great. However, this vacuum moves a lot of air! This thing sucked up so much dirt I was shocked!!! On hard floors this machine runs laps around my Dyson. There are few features this vacuum has that makes it preferable, for me, over the Dyson. The lift away is awesome because it makes it so easy to clean under the beds and couches. Secondly, the duo clean is unstoppable with everything I vacuums up.
However there are some things I don’t like about the vacuum. They are not deal breakers, but good to know about. First, the hose is short and the vacuum tips over. Yes, you can use it in lift away mode but that’s get tiring for long above ground cleaning jobs. Second, the dirt cup is to small. This vacuums pulls dirt from everywhere so it gets annoying to constantly need to empty the bin. Third, it is very tiring to vacuum large amount of carpets with this vacuum because it pulls against you. Lastly, the filter was already showing dirt after only a couple uses, so I know it doesn’t work as good as the dyson cyclone technology but I’m willing to clean the filter if I get this much power.

I would buy the Vertex, except that I am really afraid of the DuoClean and that it somehow will damage my wood floors that have a finish on them because there is no way to lift up the brush. Are the bristles and the rubber fins on the DuoClean system soft enough that they won't damage hardwood floor surfaces?

@Jacks Vacs and Safety I think they all have “hepa” but are you saying the ones that allegedly keep all or almost all of the dust from escaping is not true? I almost hope it’s not true because I’d be saving myself a ton of money getting a perfectly good vacuum that doesn’t focus on the anti allergen.

Just bought this and used it for the first time!! Here are my initial positive thoughts: omg the suction is insane, cute rose gold color, easy to assemble. Initial negative thoughts: it's very heavy, it's impossible to vacuum rugs unless you use something to hold the rug down or the suction will eat the rug! I mainly vacuum with the hose/attachments, and the hose is also heavy af. I don't know if it's just new and still needs to be broken in, but you have to use a lot of constant force to get it to stretch out/keep it stretched out which gives me muscle fatigue in my arms (both arms because I have to switch arms from tiredness!), and I have to hold the base of the vacuum or it will fall over from either the suction or just pulling on the hose, also there are no lights on the handle of the hose. I also hate that you have to unwrap the cord alllllll the way to use the long stick nozzle (like why did they put the cord wraps there!?!? Poor design imo), I also wish they sold a longer hose attachment to easily reach ceilings/fans.
And speaking of attachments, I purchased their flexi crevice tool separately, and I will be returning it because it simply will not stay extended while vacuuming because the suction is too strong. Just a heads up for anyone considering getting one.
Overall I DO love this vacuum and it was a great recommendation. Thank you for the great videos!

Okay, so I’ve been through SO many vacuums... I love Shark but I REALLY love Dyson. I’ve noticed a trend with Shark... they move on from models really fast... they’re always switching things up.... which in my opinion makes me worry about how long they’ll carry parts. Also, every shark I’ve had loses suction fast. Even with washing filters it seems like they’re never as good as day one.
Now, my Dyson Animal Ball 2 and my Dyson Animal V8 have never lost suction, and I know I can rely on Dyson customer service. I bought my mom a V7 Motorhead and her battery did in fact die. Dyson sent one for free, no questions asked. I can’t speak for sharks service level as I’ve never had to escalate an issue but I can vouch for Dyson. They really are a great company.

Be sure to buy yours from direct Shark and get the 5 year VIP warranty, otherwise the only thing they cover is the motor assembly with the Limited warranty offered from third party sellers. If you buy from Sam's Club (but they don't have the Vertex in their inventory), you can take it back anytime within 2 years for a full "no questions asked" refund. No receipt needed as they can look it up under your membership number. That 2-year return warranty goes for any products bought at Sam's!

Thanks for this video! I recently got my mom a Shark vacuum for her birthday; she really wanted a Dyson because it's a trusted brand (and she's tired of using my old 1980's Dirt Devil Broomvac that I was unable to take with me after moving to Florida). I haven't heard her review on it just yet, but I started doing some research just because I own a Dyson Ball Animal, and honestly it sounds like there is air leaking from it, I just can't figure out where. I already have really bad allergies, so after binge watching your channel I broke down and went to the store and picked up a Vertex. I haven't vacuumed my bedroom in a week and my allergies were just killing me today. I put together the Vertex (it was so easy to assemble), ran it in the bedroom and immediately noticed a different in how the air not only seemed cleaner (and I do have Holmes air purifier running as well), but there was just a lot more noticeable dirt that got pulled from the carpet.
Anyway, I was curious to know if you could do a comparison video between the Vertex and the Dyson Ball Animal just because I'm curious to see what differences there are, especially since this is supposed to be their strongest suction machine yet (as it says on the box) compared to the Apex (which I almost got instead but went ahead and splurged for the Vertex).
Thanks for this video, this is the one that truly made up my mind on going to the store today.

The biggest problem with the AZ2002 it that you cannot open the brushroll cover to get to the new fin brushroll. I've had mine for a month and a small rock is stuck in the brushroller and won't allow it to move. Luckily I shut it off in time so I didn't burn out the motor. I spent a couple hours searching online how to open the cover after looking through the manual and studying the power head and didn't find an answer. Then I contacted Shark on facebook and someone from Shark answered that there is no way to open the cover, and if I tried to unscrew what looks like allen wrench screws that attach the cover it would void my warranty. So I guess I'm supposed to throw my new $420+ vacuum away Shark took off the easy open method for it's brushroll cover and won't help me figure out how to get the small rock from my brushroller.

Dont know if you get this a lot, but I have a couple extra tests you could run, just because I recently bought this vacuum based on your videos. This vacuum does not do well with kitchen/bathroom rugs, and thus also large dog beds--my old vacuum I could pretty much just go over them. Just an added factor to your ease of use test. And then overall, a shag rug/carpet test would be helpful, to see if its effective or if it will possibly damage your rug.

We have a central vac with electric power head and I noticed after my wife would vacuum the area rugs that the dog hair just never seemed to go away. Let me tell you this vacuum pulled an amazing amount of dog hair, dust and dirt out of the area rugs it blew our minds we honestly could not fathom how much was left behind by the central vacuum and she had just vacuum them with the central vac 2 days ago. Thanks for the review. Now I just hope for longevity in the shark product.

I really love your content! Based of of your information I bought a shark duo clean. It is an absolutely amazing machine. However, after about a year of owning this machine I can smell air pollution when I turn it on.
I think it would be great if you did some longevity testing. Like, for example, maybe running it 100 hours outside and then measuring how good the complete seals last. I think a lot of manufacturers don't have very good incentive to make sure that these seals last. I think you could have a very large impact in this space.
A lot of people are also very interested in the longevity of a machine when they purchase it so that would also appeal to them.

After watching a ton of videos like this, I finally decided on this unit and ordered it. It's really great in all the ways discussed, but I have one serious issue with it and am considering returning it.
Ergonomics. Maybe it will break in, but the hose is really stiff, so using the unit in 'free wand' can feel like you're really wrestling with the unit. On a number of occasions I wanted to set the lift away engine down and use both hands for the wand, the engine got knocked over as it's simple not heavy enough to out-wrestle the stiffness of the hose.
I would also love to see this unit in a cordless. I know, I know, there IS one, but I would like to see it configured like this unit but with a battery like an updated Shark ION p50.. AND with a hose that's not too stiff. That's my dream unit.

    • @swanofnutella4734
      @swanofnutella4734 Před 3 lety +3

After using this a couple of weeks, I decided to return this unit.
It's a great unit and really powerful, but after using this unit I felt exhausted like I'd just got done wrestling some dude twice my size. Especially without any actually satisfying way to back off on the power. It pulled even large rugs out of position. The hose was conspicuously stiff and made 'wand' usage almost impossible. More wrestling. And more wrestling and more. And total body exhaustion.
I have mostly saltio (tile) floors, a few rugs and a number of cushions and upholstery I like to clean with the vac. If you have similar usage needs, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. The power was tempting, but without a way to more precisely turn that power down, I think this may be extraneous for somebody in my position. I mop the floors after I vacuum anyways.
I feel, however, this would be a great unit for somebody who has mostly carpets and a few hardwood portions in their home, and doesn't use attachments on furniture.

I knew nothing about vacuums till I started watching your videos - great job BTW. I have wood floors throughout the house. But also have a number of very delicate and expensive rugs. Reviews on Amazon indicate concern about too much suction to use on area rugs. I'm also concerned about not being able to turn off the brush roll while the vacuum using on my expensive rugs - previous vacuums brushing have ruined some of them. I then considered going with the rotator (less suction) - but really want powered lift-away to get under beds and sofas. I really like the soft roller. Do you have concerns with too much suction? Do you think I'll have problems with my rugs? What should I buy? Vertex/Apex/Rotator... or something else? Thanks. Peter

As Shark Apex owner, I'm glad this new model isn't too much of an upgrade from my current one. I bought the Apex mainly because of your detailed review, and honestly, duoclean is a must-have for people with carpet and wood/tile floors. I'm a bit surprised the cover on the brush roll doesn't pop off. My only real complaint with my Apex is little things (mainly small toys or even small pieces of paper) get caught behind the brush roll, and the only way to remove them is to pop off the cover. I'm curious how I would do that with the Vertex. I've had my Apex for almost a year and I don't think I've cleaned any hair off the main brush roll even once--the anti-hair wrapping works solid on it. Thanks for all of your detailed reviews!
