    I have learned to appreciate mine over time. Upgraded tubes, internal speaker and even an extension speaker cab have all made this a very useable amp. And when the amp is set on the verge of crunch then hit it with a quality Over Drive it sings pretty good especially for old classic rock stuff. Don't over look that its very portable and a very loud 15 watts. I find it to be a natural midrange sounding amp, which can sound a bit bland when playing alone, but just what is needed playing in a band environment. And its versatile enough to find some thicker tone with the above changes. Its a cool little amp.

    I do a lot of overdubs from home for different writers and publishers here in Nashville. I bought this as a companion to my Vox AC10. I needed a good pedal platform that wouldn’t have my neighbors calling the police. I figured a Fender and a Vox can cover a lot of ground. One writer was telling me on the phone how much he hated Blues Juniors. I sent him 8 tracks to stack. 4 AC10 and 4 from this Sweetwater exclusive Blues Jr. he called me after and told me how much he dug the tone of the solo. It was this amp with a Gibson Les Paul. I’ll take that as a win. I love my bigger more expensive amps but no police and no divorce is another win. Of course, Don could plug into anything and make it sound good.

    I've tried some of the earlier Blues Jrs and didn't like the sound. Most recently I had a Blues Jr IV in black tolex and didn't like that one either. I have a Fender Tweed Twin reissue, a Bandmaster and two Deluxes. These are all too much for what I'm currently doing. I play in a contemporary church band and play ambient guitar on the side. I saw this new tweed Jr and after hearing Don Carr's demo decided to give it another chance. I ordered one a couple weeks ago and when I got it I immediately knew this was a different Blues Jr than all the others I had tried. I played ONE chord and could hear the difference. Nice bottom end (not boxy), good mids and great treble. I think the Eminence Red, White and Blues speaker made a huge difference here. Not sure what they did to the preamp section but it sounds great. The reverb is dialed back some compared to most Fenders but it's perfect for what I do. It takes pedals great and my Strymon Big Sky, El Capistan and Timeline sound better than ever through it as do my dirt pedals, Greer Lightspeed, Bondi Sick As and Klon Centaur. I like this amp so much that I ordered two more to use in my ambient stereo setup and I leave the third amp at church. Also, this amp sounds great without pedals at low or high volume and it's easy to dial in different levels of dirt with the volume and master volume knobs. It's lightweight and it's a good looking amp. I'm 66 years old and have gone through lots of amps, guitars, effects, etc over the last 50 years I've been playing and I'm 100% happy with these amps. We all have different tastes (which is good) so what works for me may not work for you. Just wanted to share my thoughts with you guys. p.s. I mike these with Shure SM57's and run them through the PA. Running the Strymon Big Sky through two of these in stereo really is a Slice of Heaven. Trust me.

    I played a stock Fender Blues Deluxe for 6 years, and I loved it. However, I never was able to turn it up loud enough to get the most out of it (even playing with a full band and two drummers). I tried an Orange 15 watt amp (gigged with it once), and it was too different. So I played the Princetons and both DRRI models looking for an upgrade/replacement. Surprisingly after playing those, I just jived better with the Blues Jr. I got this limited edition model yesterday, and I think it's exactly what I was looking for (guitar case in one hand, pedal board in case slung around my shoulder, and blues jr. in the other hand - out the door).

I truly believe its the small cabinet that i couldnt get past. I think somebody makes a larger cab for that maybe mojotone, perhaps that would be the best tone improvement. How good is this amp when it comes to clean tone? Are they made in the US with American parts?

    • @alexmurphy5289
      @alexmurphy5289 Před 5 lety +1

      Clean tone is where it shines and basically stays... It's not a high gain amp BUT it's perfect for pedals so it can be pushed into those high gain stages with the correct pedals due to its high headroom. Basically, it's a great amp

    • @ryanhennessey977

      I agree with the reply below.... it's perfect for pedals. I'm stacking a TS-808 then an EHX Soul Food, and I'm really digging the sound. It's plenty loud too... breaks up nice, but I don't get lost in the mix like I do with the Marshall DSL40C.

      Fender twin tonestack mod, doesn't remove treble but does make midrange more aggressive adjustment-wise.
      Check out the forums, the mods are easy and cheap, but have a qualified tech do them.

    I have a squier jag in daphne blue ( profile pic), a DZG (check video in profile), and an Ibanez art core 12 string( I’ll post a video of it later this evening!) in which I play through their the blues jr @ guitar center.
    I’ve found that I have to completely turn down the mids on the amp while playing the 12 string. If I turn the mids up to 3-4, there is just too much “going on” in terms of sound. It’s not really overdrive or saturation, it’s just “too much sound” coming through that amp.
    You should recreate my findings in a new video demo.
    Please just do a shout out to me, is all I ask.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey, Jeffrey. Great question! When it comes to amp settings and guitar tone, it is all very subjective and depends on a variety of factors including the room you are in, pedals you have, and your own taste, of course. I generally recommend starting with everything around noon (besides master volume and reverb) and adjusting from there. Feel free to give us a call to go into more detail. Thanks!

    can you hook up a microphone for singing with it to???

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 2 lety

      Hello, Terry! The Blues Junior does not have a dedicated mic input on board. It could work with dynamic mics if you get a Hi-Z mic cable like this:
      www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RMCB20HIZ--roland-rmc-b20-hiz-black-series-hi-impedance-microphone-cable-20-foot
      That said, these amps are voiced for guitar, so fidelity will leave a little to be desired if using with a microphone.
      Thanks for the interest!

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for your message RK, hope you're well and safe.
      Your question is difficult to answer because there's no indication of the style of music, how loud the drummer you play with is, or if the amp will be mic'd up. 15 tube watts gets loud, however I don't know if you're looking for clean headroom or overdrive. The more you turn the amp up, the more it'll distort and the looser the low end response.

I have owned the 2-3 and now the 4 and the 4 is a major improvement in overall sound. Sounds like a much bigger Amp than the 2-3 Boxy small amp sound. If you want to bypass the "junk amps" spend $2500 or more and buy a hand wired Dr. Z - Bad Cat or Matchless. Otherwise don't crap on people's $600 Amp.
