    Having owned two E-types, a Series 1 OTS and a Series 2 FHC during the late '70's and early '80's and selling them both before they started being "valuable", I find this channel most captivating. My goal is to own an early 4.2 liter OTS before I die. Watching these videos that you make inspires and educates me towards reaching that goal. I'm so glad that I subscribed once I found this channel! Thanks for all you do, Mark! I will be in touch. You're the man when it comes to the world of E-types.

    Great tour of Autoclassics in Latvia! As you say the hidden secret for big time restoration shops in Europe. Looks like they have the process down: prefit the chrome, work the door skin flanges for good seal fit, remaking the trim that's unavailable. And yes, the Ferrari presented by Tom Yang at Cavallino 2024 was done there too.

    • @JaguarEType
      @JaguarEType  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi Richard 👋, yes you were damned right with that workshop. Good, you told 😁😁. Apart from Eagle, I have never seen such a complete in-house restoration. And only with they are able to manage a first class restoration in only 14 month. Imagine 30 people are working there. You can tell they get things done. Looking forward to your next video. The 2 hours Retromobile czcams.com/video/Yf3V5nfKUHs/video.htmlfeature=shared is running 🔥 🔥.

    Nice video again Maikel, I try to make everything, too, because I cannot affort the money to buy all parts, so it takes a lot of years to finish the car of mine. Made floors, doors, Leathers for the seats, restore engines, exhausts, gearbox, hinges and now I want to make trims, don't know yet. Even made the rear lights of RVS(Stainless). Frank.

      Hello @danielguillien9395,
      many thanks for watching and your feedback. I have seen various workshops, different cultures, levels, attitudes. This one is not fancy, but very meticulous. They do have all the skills in-house what makes things so much easier. You need something, they get it done. Very good to see. This is probably very close to how Jaguar did built the very first 500 E Types. However, I was very pleased they shared the time with me and have shown me round. There is always something to learn for me and maybe also for you. Stay tuned.

      @JaguarEType  Před 2 měsíci

      Hi @Thereishope664, perfection never comes cheap, but you would enjoy it every time you are looking at it. Chucking things together is easy, the last 20% is the tedious and expensive part of the job.
      A nice story comes in my mind. Someone witnessing an auction of an E Type said:" For this price I can buy a nice home." The person next to him said:" Probably, but nobody could see you, where everyone will notice you when driving round in a nice car." 😂

      @@JaguarEType Maikel, I will but summer is not yet here...although spring. So preparing my S1 FHC to be ready for the season. 😎
      An important but many times ignored thing sorted this week. My e-type got new rubbers on wire wheels. Old tyres had still a lot of rubber (only 12K kms) but aged as baked back in 2011 so not that safe anymore.
      You could mention this important safety but also comfortability point on one of your videos as too many times we only think about how much rubber our classic's tyres have and not how old those are. 🤔 It's so easy to think that I will do one more summer with the existing tyres. But sometimes it's just better to bite the bullet. You could share your experiences of various options for different type of e-types (S1/2/3 & OTS/FHC) and driving needs/styles. I'm sure many would like it.

    • @JaguarEType
      @JaguarEType  Před 2 měsíci

      @jukkaaunola5942 Fully agree with you. Old hard tyres might still be good for dry roads, but even a small rainfall puts you on ice. So true 👍

    Maikel,
    A couple comments..I was taught..my wife and I never touch the body with our bare hands..we always wear gloves..And finish is a real issue to me...Jaguar did not buff the cars (well, Jag did if there was damage caused "in the shop" and had to be spotted in)..if buffed then one is walking away from originality as the paint becomes very flat..original paint had some orange peel ( reality is, new cars are NOT buffed..look at even high dollar cars...all have some orange peel..look at dark colors especially black) Buffing is done, as I have, at times, to correct mistakes...perfection is not buffed. The more you know..well ??...Buffing IS paint correction.
    Enough is enough..a breath of fresh air from you, Maikel...as you said, "do as much work when you still have enthusiasm"..rings in my head..for that and all you bring, I thank you
    Mitch

    • @JaguarEType
      @JaguarEType  Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Mitch, thank you very much for your knowledgeable feedback. You are right with what you say. These guys are just trying to make things better, even if the paint was as good as when Jaguar did it.
      Exactly that orange skin, what I do see very often, is something I personally do not like. Here, the paint looks like a smooth mirror. Every reflection is christal clear. Certainly better than original.
      Many thanks, Mitch, keep up the good work. 👍

    Great shop,great work, thanks Maikel.The opalescent bronze OBL was the same colour as chassis 198 that I recently sold as as a fully restored and detailed OBL from our OBL stock.Also great to see at 16:59 with the early rear bulkhead with only horizontal rib stiffener pressings,heavy painting of bonnet good for finish …but over the years after painting many OBL’s I have always reduced the paint coverage around the welded louvres to retain the spot weld imperfections from the factory .Generally,.most changes in the body and fittings build up ( including such details as the thin/thick lower windscreen chrome) can be accurately defined by referencing the changes in the official Jaguar parts catalogue from the day alongside the intuitive knowledge gained from specialists in the obls such as myself who have rebuilt and repaired these cars for 40 years ,dealing with all the idiosyncrasies that Browns Lane threw into the mix back in 1961,again great work and keep on learning with the OBL enigma.

    • @JaguarEType
      @JaguarEType  Před 2 měsíci

      Good day xxxxxx ???? Many thanks for your in-depth feedback and contribution to my channel. The OBL's are the real evolution of the E Type before they really became a "mass-production" car. For me as an engineer, it it entering the browns lane engineering department in 61. That is why I find it so interesting and fascinating as we all can witness today what they changed and we can find out why.

    Great video Markel! I currently own a 1970 E-type 4.2 series II. It is a driver and I enjoy working on improving various parts of the car. My question to you is, do you have a good source for obtaining original looking hardware for the car? I’ve notice when working on my car I have found numerous trim screws that have a Phillips head and I know they should be slotted head. I would like to replace these trim parts with period correct fasteners. P.S. I live on the East Coast of USA. Thank you so much for your time.

      You might search for these "DIN 7973 Blechschrauben Linsensenkkopf Schlitz" called self tapping slotted oval head chrome plated, but maybe stainless steel could be sufficient. Good luck.
