    Wow, this is better than I expected and my expectations where high! Knowledge and enthusiasm is always riveting and when combined with good anecdotes it is the best. A friend of mine loved niche magazines in the 90's, no matter the subject, and he got me hooked also. The reason is that when the writer is really knowledgeable and enthusiastic, it goes beyond the subject and is a joy to read but I helps if there is some kind of technical or mechanical thing to start with. It's also assuming that the reader has knowledge about the subject. This is the modern version of a niche magazine and it's just fantastic. Thank you for starting this channel!

    I was fortunate enough to both work on AND drive Bill Gates' 959 in late 2000 when I was a rookie Porsche technician at Barrier Porsche.
    My instructor at at Porsche Training and Apprenticeship Program for me quite emphatically that I would never see nor touch a 959 as a technician and that they are "unobtanium". What an absolute treat and honor to even touch one of these amazing vehicles!

    I had to comment when you said "pearl white".
    There was one 959 for over a decade, driven daily and parked in the centre of Glyfada (affluent suburb of Athens) in Greece. It was pearl white. I've seen the Japanese car which is more "pearl off-white".
    Anyone my age (mid-40s) that lived and grew up in Athens knows about the particular car, we all seen it, inspected it when parked...
    it was magnificent. Keep in mind it was a big deal to see even a 911 on the street back then. imagine a shiny pearly 959...

    To me, the 500E build by Porsche is something similar to victorinox assembling hairdryers for a while for AEG in the early 00.
    Porsche was broke and needed something to earn them money, and that quick. And they got to make the 500E by the company that isn't located far away from Porsche. (which some would consider a rival)
    And when the sales of swiss army knives at airports all around the world almost ceased entirely due to new airport security after 9/11 and victorinox lost considerable income, they didn't want to fire their employees like so many companies do.
    Vic is still a family owned company and not noted on any stock exchange (so they don't care about stake holders but they do care for their employees), and the guy who was the owner at that time who knew every employee at tha factory by name managed to get electronics company AEG to let them assemble hair dryers so nobody would loose their job. So they won some time to think. And with retiremends of age and a few tweaks they managed to not have to fire anyone. (got that from a swiss tv documentary i found a few years ago when the old men went into retirement, but still showed up at the factory to have a chat with the employees almost every day.)
    Something else: many know the Harley V-rod with the water cooled 60° V2 as being engineered by Porsche for Harley. But the Evo engine HArley made also had Porsche doing devellopment for Harley already. (i read that in a Harley owners club magazine long ago. So even HD told it themselves)

    There was one non-factory 959 convertible. I read about it and saw pictures in a magazine (Sports Car International, maybe?). The owner wrecked it, possibly on the drive home from the dealer when new (so this is way back in the 80's), and had it converted then. It was white if I recall.

    • @NientePatente
      @NientePatente Před 2 lety

      I don't recall if it was wrecked that soon in its life, but it was wrecked in Germany, and with the help of Auto Becker (the famous, now bankrupt exotic car dealer in Düsseldorf) the 959 was rebuilt to be three cars: it was a hardtop coupe with the original roof; then you could take off the roof just like any modern hardtop convertible (think Porsche 996 Cabriolet with the hardtop), and then, the most crazy part of all: you could swap the windshield and its surround with another one, custom made and based on the 911 speedster windshield. In this case you could use a rag top if needed (I cannot remember if it was integral part of the car or not). The car was (is?) for sale at 2.000.000€ in Italy, near Venice (Portogruaro), and you are correct, it is white.
      John: Thanks for your videos, I thoroughly enjoyed this video and the one about the Audi 200! I will find the time to watch the others as well, for the moment I subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to what you will bring us :-)
