- I'M BACKKKKK!!!
And right out of the gate, it's go time.
We are down to the last two weeks before babies arrive, and I need this barn CLEAN!!
But as we moved the sheep on this thick pack, two ewes got cast (upside down) and needed a wee bit of help getting back up.
Also time for the ewes to join up with the rams, but as I was allocating groups, I realized that for the first time in a LONG time, I may be short on rampower!!
...so I made a last minute decision.

Welcome home! Building that cabin was absolutely the best move ever. The vibe in there is relaxing and comfy cozy. You both work so very hard and you both deserve this beautiful space.
It's not like they don't have a beautiful home to go to with no children.
But the vibe from their own tiny cabin...
It's something else and calls to them.
I wonder what Jack and/or Jess will do with the farm?
Not that Sandi and Mark are quite ready to retire just yet, but that question does need to be asked.
And we should probably add in other nieces and nephews into the mix.
There are a lot of family farms mixed into this group.
The next 10 - 12ish years should be interesting to see what the future brings.
Then there's the truth for this audience, too.
We're getting older along with them!
I'll be well into my 70s, and if my health acts up, I won't want to miss out on what's going to happen just because I die too soon.

Welcome home, Sandi. It was nice to see the Golden Girls perk up the moment they saw you. I know it's hard work but I love when you strip the pens. It's therapeutic to watch. I muck a lot of horse stalls and it's a great feeling once they are cleaned and bedded with fresh straw. I was happy to hear you say you were taking the rest of the day at the cabin and perhaps even nap. Many good things came from Jess' tough journey and your cutting back on the number of lamb breeding cycles and taking time to enjoy your cabin are two of those good things!
It was great traveling with you, but it is always good to get back home! Sandi you are an amazing woman, you accomplish so much and are a joy to follow along with the rest of the family! Leaving those younger ewes in the breeding group would have been like letting 12-13 year old girls get pregnant willy-nilly. Older teens don't have nearly the trouble and are understanding more about being pregnant. Just because they may be ovulating, doesn't mean they are ready for breeding. Good call Sandi. I think it is funny when you give the golden girls their grain, They will got immediately to the first bowl and will keep changing bowls as if that grain changes and tastes better if it is in the other pan! They are so silly. Glad you are back and had a good time. I tried to catch all your shorts so hopefully to help keep your algorithms up.
A ewe start ovulate at 5 months sometimes earlier and sometimes later with some weeks. A 12-13 year old human is a 5 month ewe
I watched the shorts and went back to older videos to hopefully keep it up. Glad you had a good trip but even more glad you're back.
Granted, most of the sheep in the UK lamb once a year so figuring out age brackets is easier. But it seems ewe hoggs/gimmers (1 year old female lambs - they don’t get called ewes until they are bred for the first time) aren’t set to the tups til they are in their second year. That gives them the time they need to mature. A female dog might actually go into her first season anywhere between 6 to 9 months; she would still be a growing puppy til 18 months old. Let the young replacement girls mature a bit, which should be helpful to their long time productivity in your flock.

I'm not an expert, but I do applaud your decision to trust your gut. I feel like that is a very underrated thing to do. But it has always served me well, and I hope it serves you well!
It's amazing how much manure you have to spread on the fields, probably cuts down on the chemical fertilizers - this is why farm animals are so important to the process.

We tail paint cattle and then artificially inseminate when the paint is disturbed. Can be used on goats, too...

Sandi you are so right about the feeling of relief when you clean the barn in preparation for new babies. My husband and I have our spring calves due to start on April 1st. He has been panicking that we don’t have our pens ready. He’s cleaning out the one side of the barn today. We did the other side and the calving pens last week. So far the girls have been cooperating and no babies yet. Fingers crossed we will be ready. Love the videos and am so envious of your telehandler.

That is one impressive Poop Mountain!🤣. Love watching cleanup days and rearrangements. Any chance the Sheepishly Me boys will have a few Blueface Leicester rams join them in the future? If you have a choice, look for what’s called a “traditional type” ram, rather than the “crossing type.” Both would give you incredibly milky ewe replacements that make great mamas, and also improve the fineness of your wool clip for all of us fans of Charlie’s work and Mariposa’s wool wizards. It could be fun to see future little lambs with those Blueface Leicester faces and especially the big rabbit ears!

One thing I really admire about your farm is that it is so neat, clean, and organized. Your sheep are neat, clean, and organized. I've watched other sheep farmers and while I'm sure there's nothing wrong with how they do things, you all's farm is by far the neatest and cleanest! Yeah clean out day. Not sure why but I love the clean outs lol. My small flock lambs outside in fall because the California spring/winter is our rainy season and it made lambing miserable so I moved it to fall. Much better.

Welcome back. Cleaning the barn, including the lambing pen, sounds like a great way to readjust after the jet lag. Good job getting the two ewes that were on their backs right side up again. The new telehandler looks great. Rex gave you some good advice about breeding. Always nice to see Billy. Kinsey did a great job watching the ewes while you were marking them to get bred. Breeding the ewes when they're a bit older is a good idea. Always nice to see the Golden Girls. They definitely loved their grain. Always nice to see the cabin.
The sheep switching pens for whatever the need is always reminds me of an orchestra if that makes sense. All in tune and loving their programs. 💕
