The last eyelet at the top is not necessarily "too modest" if the stays underneath brought your boobs up higher. We're used to think of decolletage as the neckline going down to the boobs, but in the 18th century it's very much the boobs that go up to the neckline. If you look at 18th century portraits and take the armpit as a fixed point of reference, you notice the girls are most often sitting veeery high. Now, it's perfectly fine to leave it as is if you feel comfier this way of course! Just wanted to share what I think is a likely explanation.
Yes, when I went to Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, the actresses in historical costume at an evening dance demonstration were wearing dresses with their boobs all but spilling out of the top of their dresses!
I'm not sure if Lucy is still wearing a bra under her stays, if she is it makes sense why this fit issue is happening. She should not be wearing a bra because the stays act as a bra, as you know.
Laughed a lot at blaming your hammering noises on the construction, extremely sound reasoning! xD The dress turned out beautiful
Just want to say it's so refreshing to see someone who seems *excited* about something they've made and haven't just put something together to do that awkward posing montage that a lot of CZcamsrs seem to do :)
This project turned out great.
I would suggest making the chemise without ruffles. If you want ruffles, make them as separate pieces and hand sew them to the dress. If you use larger stitches, then you can easily remove the ruffles if you want to wash the dress or change the ruffles. It is also easier to place the ruffles the way you like them if they are attached to the dress. If the ruffles are attached to the chemise, then you run the risk of them shifting around while you wear the outfit.
Looks amazing! It's so nice that you're doing something you're always dreamed of. Your constant progress and the way you overcome obstacles has ways been very inspiring to me 🙏🏻 ❤️
I wish it was practical to wear this level of dress on an everyday basis.
Looks incredible!!
Agreed! What a wonderful thing that would be 😍
If you wear just the floral dress with a modern maxi white dress, it would look really nice in spring/summer when too much layering is not possible
Yay Loepsie! A result well worth waiting for! Now you can dance to your Mozart in style!
I actually gasped at the reveal. It’s so cute !!!
Lucy!! This turned out gorgeous! After you started crafting this dress, I bought the same exact pattern. I just finished my stays this morning! I cannot wait to begin working on the skirt so I can create one just like yours!
I did the same ! I loved so much her project
I am living for this series
Oh my god i absolutely love the end result it was so worth the wait to see how it turn out.
I was initially confused by the attachment of the bodice to the skirt, then realised it was an open front dress.
I agree that the ruffles in the chemise are too much, but I feel like just lace on the sleeves would be enough.
Additionally, the extra eyelets are probably there for a reason. Not sure what, but for a reason
The last eyelet being too high is a common criticism of this pattern, that I forgot about as I was applying them 😅 I don't think it serves any historical purpose!
I think the extra eyelet is to help those of is with a very full bust i needed it to help with modesty
This is so beautiful it makes me want to cry. It’s amazing!
Hooray! Well done!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with going out like that!! I go out with my historical gowns to school 😂😂
Wowowow this came out so beautifully! Idk if it would undermine any historical accuracy, but I wondered about inverting the lacing to make the bow fall at the bottom rather than the top -- this would show off your grommets & lacing details, while redirecting some visual interest to the waist....just a thought, do with this what you will. If you're looking to add details to the sleeves, I'd love to see some red ribbon accents where the sleeves flare out. Fabulous job on this dress!
The lacing is actually supposed to be spiral laced anyway. The style of lacing she did is not historically accurate at all. So you're onto something here.
@@kenziehurlock Not really - you see both spiral and cross lacing on the front of the outer clothing often in portraiture and on fashion plates and extant garments. Spiral lacing is better for stays, but cross lacing is often seen as a decorative element on the exterior garment. I made this pattern to be more historically accurate (ish) and I used cross lacing on the outer bodice. But I did move the bow to the bottom and used thinner ribbon.
Simplicity would be very glad to know you thought the their simplified patterns were easy to use, because that’s LITERALLY the point.
You could totally wear this for Halloween tomorrow! :)
Well done. Turned out so great!
I am in love with the finished product! You did such an amazing job with every piece, Lucy! Truly well done!!!
Gown is gorgeous, and hey, it's Halloween on Sunday! A great reason to put on a gown and go for a walk.
not exactly related, but I hope you and Robert can get a house or a place with a garden/yard. I'd LOVE to see you plan an herb garden/veggie garden
this turned out so beautiful 💕
It came together so well!! I can't wait to see the grand reveal!
Love this dress!!!!
This was great! I love that you showed yourself cutting out pattern pieces and folding the pleats, it felt like doing the dress with you!
Beautiful, now every time I see a bedsheet I see a sewing project, that has been such a good idea , thanks xx
Stunning work!! I totally agree, the red ribbon is gorgeous and just the right accent for the fabric❤️❤️❤️
I loved the series! I was as much excited as you at every piece coming to life ! So I bought the patterns myself and begun this project as I was so inspired by yours. I hope you will share others series like that in the future. Thank you for all your tips and sharing.
I really love the pattern of the fabric that you are using. It gives a modest nod to modern interpretation to a historical bodice. I love it a lot.
I loooove this series! I hope you will do another one in the future! The dress turned out so pretty!
Amazing! It’s really come together so well and I love that you are making this feel like an attainable project!
Love it! You did a great job on it Lucy. Can't wait for the next video and see your pockets and grand reveal.
Everything looks amazing. The ruffles look charming on you. Of course lace is better. The linen does show off the tulip print. I’m guessing the higher grommets are for winter. Save body heat by tucking a fine shawl around your neck and making everything higher? Can’t wait to see the lace, pockets and the embellishments.
oh, it is soooo beautiful!!! sooooo proud of you!!!!! xoxoxoxoxo
So lovely! I think the addition of lace will make the dress even more beautifully detailed and sophisticated/historical. I agree that the linen was a good choice too. More of a wearable day dress feel than some fancy court dress.
It looks so beautiful 🤩 congratulations
Ooh! Loepsie,it's beautiful! And suits you so much.well done,so clever.xx
Lucy, it’s an absolutely stunning dress. Congratulations! ❤️
Beautiful job on the dress. I love the fabric, it really works

This sequence of videos has been binge worthy!! Can't wait for the next video :D congrats on the successful sewing yayy
It looks great!!!
Congratulations, you have done a wonderful job so far and the dress is stunning!
Congratulations!! It looks fabulous! You’ve convinced me to use these patterns. I’ve been on the fence!
Wow! This is amazing!!! I completely do not know how to used pre-made patterns and am terrified to try, but I have created a few of my own patterns and it’s amazing to see something from start to finish; especially when it comes out successfully! One reason I enjoy being a graphic designer. 😊💕
You look amazing 😍 so so so beautiful!!
You have done great. The dress looks very nice.
Wow Amazing
Looking good!
Great video!
I'm in absolute awe with your creation! I'm getting started on my sewing journey, all I've done for the moment are the following: an apron and two different pinholders 😂 I wish I could show it to you, I was so inspired after watching your sewing journey! Now I'm dreaming of doing that same pattern some day 😍😍 how many meters did you need? Greetings from Spain!!
PS: you're one step closer to Elizabeth's gown 💪💪
this is so cool, the dress came out beautiful!!!!I think that the extra eyelet is for the bodice to be laced up in a spiral way, not criss crossed as we usually do nowadays.
It looks amazing! Well done ☺️👍🏻
Love this video
I am also in awe! It looks amazing and you really did make it seem easy. Definitively adding this dress to my "do soon-list" 😁
Good video! You are really talented!
Wow omg it looks amazing xx
Beautiful 👏🏾
Great job!
Congratulations after all your hard work! It turned out great. I actually like the ruffles!
Historical beautiful dress you can wear in historical events.
Great video
So beautiful 😮❤
Beautiful
Maybe you could add some red ribbon as a band near the bottom of the petticoat?
Very nice video thanks
Lovely
The dress is beautiful, it’s a genius idea to get fabric at ikea to make this dress. I might start doing it too!! Love love love how it turned out
It looks beautiful, you did such a good job! Have you seen historical pockets? They're so fun, they're just separate little bags on a belt, they would be perfect for this dress!
Sometimes I'll cover eyelets with embroidery thread so it looks more accurate but I still get that strength and perfect circles to follow.
I love the final outcome! The ruffles.. yeah some might like them more than others. I personally like the combo with the dress more than I anticipated, but maybe feels like too much when you wear it?
Well done Lucy! Awesome that you made this journey and shared it with us :)
I absolutely love this! I think the bum pad looks right. At least to me. I feel like they had that bigger is better kinda thought process then. It was fashionable. If not it still looks fine to me.
Nice video!
nice shears!
I really admire how meticulous your are about transferring the pattern directions, they absolutely provide you with wonderful end results. I am a monster. 1) I rarely use patterns and 2) I never mark them properly when I do. It's terrible. I took pattern making as a part of my program in college and still, I just don't have the patience for it.
Cool!
Good skills 👍
I think I love this dress almost as much as you do! Annnnd, now I need to make one too! :D
lovelly video
very good video
My goal is to make my sewing machine pedal cable long enough to sew standing up. Mono audio cable is correct but I can’t find the right shape end piece. Grump grump.
Lovely work Lucy.
Yesssssss
Good video
Wear it out in public! It's beautiful!! You're so talented!
oh my god!!!! It is so gorgeous. And the bum pad is perfect. Just trust me. ^^
Our beautiful and skilled hostess can do anything.
Very good video nice
The only thing that looks off to me is the red ribbon in front. It looks limp and a little long. The dress is beautiful and looks perfect on you.
I love that dresss you made angel, its soooo Beautiful🙂 Have a lovely weekend dear ~🍒❣♥💓♥❣🍒~
Nice video
Nice
I love it and want one.i wish I could make one in plaid. But I don't know how to sew or follow patterns. If I had a dress like that it would be the only dress I would wear everyday.
