2k10 mycareer mode and newer technology was the 2 reasons live is now dead. 2k raised the expectations for a simulation hoop game. If 2k made a football game it would be 100x better than shitty EA

I have very fond memories of dunking for about 60 points a game from the free throw line with T-Mac on the Magic in Live 03. Baron Davis was another dude who could dunk from stupid far distances in that game.
Well i also still remembered the Buzzer Beater Game Winning 3 in an NBA LIVE BIG MOMENTS MODE.
I stopped gaming for one ☝🏽 generation (PS3/Xbox 360 era), when I came back in 2016, I was hella blown away by the strides 2K had taken. NBA Live was my jam on PS1 and half of the PS2 era, but 2K was getting ahead of the competition. It’s sad where sports gaming is at now, but them years between 05-11 must’ve been crazy huh?
Legit the best years for all sports games across the board. PS2 is still the platinum standard for sports gaming period. Early 2010s was the beginning of the end.

While 2K hit a home run with NBA 2K14, EA fumbled the bag with NBA Live worse than that time they signed the contract with NFL in '05.

I still remember how pumped I was as a kid when the very first NBA Live came out for the SNES and Genesis. I really loved the 96 version because you got to create your player. Those days are long gone but never forgotten. It would also be nice to get a new NBA Jam game with some depth.
It’s sad how Live ended up. I still boot up NBA LIve 2005 every so often.

The gaming landscape is so boring these days. No competition in sports titles and I just can't believe how far NBA live had fallen. I went into a Game stop the other day for the first time in about 7 years and couldn't believe what I saw. The store I went to had been cut in half and they didn't have anything used that even peaked my interest. Just a handful of titles and Pokémon dolls and other crap.
I barely remember when this game was first released. When this game was released, they decided to release it as a 8th generation exclusive. Though it was first to be release on 8th generation gaming consoles, the game was garbage, and I avoided this game. I've played the PS4 version of NHL '15 and that game was garbage too.
This was when NBA Live was put on life support after the NBA Elite '11 debacle. I've played NBA Live '95, '97-2000, 2004, 2005, '06 and '10 and they're leagues better than this crap.
i can't help how wonder if NHL Has the same fate if NHL 2K was still alive, if 2k still makes nhl 2k games, because when i hear live 14 was pale echo of the real thing basketball in name only, 9:15, that how i feel with nhl 15 to 24 replication of hockey.
Idk If NHL is the best example that game has actually changed a lot over the last couple of years. They normally add something brand new to the game one year next year work on making it better then havea new element the following year

I struggle to understand why EA hasn't thought to revive the NBA Street series. By now they understand that Live is dead, but there's no need to give up on a basketball franchise. Forget a basketball sim title, you'll never catch or compete with 2k, but people would LOVE a return of the Street series. They could also introduce an online mode to compete with 2k's Park. I mean an arcade game with fun gameplay and an NBA license would do NUMBERS. The opportunity is right in front of them if they want it

Or - they would just change the series name to FIBA or FIBA Live and focus more on adding European/international leagues and national teams (like in NBA Live 08-10) (NBA would be still important, but less than 2K series). And EA with addition of global basektball teams and leagues should win the basketball game genre internationally. Imagine, if today we would have something like FIBA 24 or FIBA Live 24, with over 20-25 leagues to choose from (with NBA, G League and WNBA), fully licensed EuroLeague and EuroCup with all teams participating in every year, Eurobasket, Basketball World Cup etc. This idea would truly make NBA Live as an arcade competition to NBA 2K. So, NHL games have some European leagues, so why not NBA 2K or Live especially if they made another game?

To me NBA LIVE always had the presentation on point it was always better than 2K . 2K just got the basketball aspect of a basketball video game to a tee. I will say Live 06-09 were UNfuckWITHable in totality. But 2K10 and on was just a different beast.
NBA Live 2003 was so much fun. EA knew then that they couldn’t compete with 2K as the “sim” so they went for more of an arcade like feel. They should do the same today with this long storied franchise.

personal opinion honestly, but live 07 was even worse
3 shoot buttons which were super confusing, even more artificial looking animations, a (for me atleast) mostly un memorable soundtrack, and a graphics engine which while good makes my 360 sounds like a jet engine, the game just sucks
The only thing I liked about this game is the presentation others than that. The whole game is the complete mess.

The fact that Jesus Bynum saved the world from a release of NBA Elite 11 will always be the funniest piece of video game trivia.
*Live 10 was the best basketball game i had ever played 🙌 so I was super disappointed when Elite 11 got cancelled. I played the demo and enjoyed it but it was definitely a big step back from 10 in terms of movement, stiffness, etc. 14 felt exactly like 11 but it was cool if you just focused on controlling 1 player 😂 passing, cutting to the rim, spot up shooting. Live 19 made up for it though. 19 is the best basketball game I've ever played in my life* 👌
2K should apologize too for ruining the games and all their VC shit. Live will come back better. Live 19 already felt on the right track.
I played this game a ton on Xbox One and I still have it. As someone who doesn't really enjoy sports games unless it's something silly, like NBA Street and NBA Jam, I liked this game exactly because it was so damn janky and didn't really play anything like actual basketball...and I only paid 2.99 for it from Goodwill too😂😂

Personally, I thought live 16 18 and 19 were ok games, they just didn’t hold a candle to the respective 2k titles. If I have $60 (at the time ofc lol), I’m not spending it on live 16. Now had they priced them at $30 or $40 then there may have been some consideration because after 2k18 I was definitely frustrated with 2k, but live’s track record just wasn’t good enough to choose it over 2k for the same price
