In a nutshell
This was before youtube viral videos, just to let you know.
This was famous among the gaming community before viral stuff even existed.
@@CMCAdvanced LoL
Who shouted let’s go Justin he needs to be remembered
Plot twist: he was the one that jinxed Justin.
Plot twist but fact: It's actually "WAY TO GO JUSTIN!"
"LETS GO JU--ParryParryParry..."
"LETS GO JU--ParryParryParry..."
Ok name him then
This is my shit. Justin, if you're reading this. Please make more lore/stories videos. I love hearing about your FGC origins.
Same. I was gaming back in arcades in the 90s, and this lore videos really brings me back.
I 3rd this.
Here for this
This is his best content because that era of gaming had so much more mystique.
*You got a heart.*
There is so much more story to moment 37 than just the parry.
Take a look at the japanese player in the green shirt with his arms crossed looking at the screen.
Thats Raoh, a Japanese Chun-Li player.
He' might not be MOV, Nuki or Rikimaru (arguably the 3 best Chun-Li players to ever play 3rd strike) but he aint a scrub.
No one in their right mind would think any American player could beat a japanese player in a Chun mirror, but Justin did that just before the match with Daigo and it wasnt that close.
After Justin's pop off Raoh would not even look at Justin and waved his hand off in digust as he walked off the stage.
Look after the camera pans back to the screen after the wide crowd shot and you can see the pissed off Raoh, sitting on the floor in a laughing fit.
It gets lost in the moment but in 2004 Justin shocked everyone by going as far as he did and in 2005 he did the fucking impossible and got into Grand Finals with participation of the two best Chun-Li players on the planet and hands down the best Yun player at the time in Mester.
That does not happen.. you don't get two American players into top 6 when the game was considered DEAD in the US as a tournament game.
Thanks for adding some context to this, makes it all that much more interesting.
A lot of people also don't know that the match between Daigo and Justin wasn't the final. And after this match Daigo lost.
@@Sintoolkicks Does it really matter? The fact that his move was so shockingly ruthless it misguided people to believe he actually won the tournament is a major feat in itself.
The only American who could beat the Asians was himself Asian 💀
@@yasirkadhim2940it’s funny that justin ended up winning though
Justin: WHY ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE PARRYING ME!?!?!
**weeks later**
Justin: Okay, I feel like talking about Daigo all of a sudden.
"Let's go Justin!"
Moments before disater.
It's the Leroy Jenkins of sfiii3rd
> *Suffers PTSD as a result*
> *STILL tempts fate repeatedly*
It's kinda like what's going on today, right? But, replace Justin with Brandon, and Chun-Li of China and Ken from America? Way to foreshadow, Freddy...
i dont know justin personally, or much about him as a person. but i really admire the sportsmanship and the way he deals with evo moment 37
legendary moment on a legendary tournament. with two legends playing
Playing a legendary fighting game
@@oshikurutensai8206 The best one!
@@oshikurutensai8206 this comment is legendary
The best thing about the Daigo Parry is that Daigo never let fame get to him and was still humble after the parry, and Justin was never salty about the moment. Respect for 2 of the best fighting game players of my generation.
Everyone wants to challenge the King. To be the man you gotta BEAT THE MAN. And Justin, you're the man. I am absolutely sure you are SHAPING the current way people fight against Chun Li because I think people feel YOU have the best Chun Li on Third Strike. I would consider it an honor, and I really hope you do too. Just remember...in Yugioh....Seto Kaiba is just as famous and popular if not MORE so than Yugi is.
first thing that came into mind actually was vegeta but yeah kaiba is a perfect example too
@@terence7009 Justin is definitely the kind of guy that will fight you in MVC2 on top of a moving jet shaped like colossus.
@@alextorres8635 oh absolutely. NYC crew in general was always savage
It would be really cool to see Justin face off vs a top Japanese Chun like Nuki or Rikimaru today.
im sure Justin is the best player. because he has a lot top rank games in his hands. anothers only are good in 1 game.
Justin gets parried and still goes HAM REGARDLESS. Let's Go Justin. Preciate the efforts of making fighting games popular again🔥👍🏽
like what is really impressive is the fact that back then, there was no real good way to transfer information around, so the fact that Daigo knew the exact situation and parried the whole thing, then did an optimal punish while under the pressure of the crowd and moment
actually crazy lol
I watched the whole fight. The entire fight Justin had the upper hand.. But he struggled to close the match out in a couple rounds. He also threw way too many chun li kicks also so that didnt help because every time he did it Daigo had a chance to get the timing down under all the nerves..
If justin had just been a little more confident in himself he would have won. Daigo was just outclassed in that match
@@itsmesteve1081 read the date of my comment lmao
Another crazy thing is, in that same round Justin hit him with that super twice!!!
Fighting games are where they are now because of that moment. Heck it even made it into the Online version of Third Strike as one of Ken's parry challenges, which is probably why everybody feels like they have have to do the full combo to punish. You're a part of history, and if there was an FGC Hall of Fame you'd be a first ballot member.
I thank you and Daigo for EVO 37 moment. It changed fighting game, FGC, forever.
Daigo and Justin are like Ali and Frazier. EVO moment 37 is the "thrilla in Manila" of fighting games. Nobody is going to repeat that in the near future, those guys are legends!
This is why the arcade scene will always be heads above the internet driven community these days. You actually had to find out by playing someone face to face. It was easy to watch a video and do what you saw the players doing, but until you actually played that person, you had no clue how good that person actually was. The people who took the time to put footage online(thx preppy especially), actually spent a good amount of time making sure everything ended up coming out correctly. These days any pleb with a pc can stream just like anyone can turn on the cell phone camera and capture anything in real time. The simplicity of everything these days takes from the passion required to be a player 20 years ago imo.
You gotta remember, this was still when West Coast/Yeast Coast rap feuds were still simmering. So, naturally, that was gonna spill over into competitive aspects of life. Glad that you were able to see that surface hate for what it was, and rise above it.
Nah they were dead by 2002.
Most people would be afraid to relive a moment like the Daigo parry. It's funny and refreshing how to this day you keep poking fun at yourself for that moment. Also glad I got to play you once in the Chinatown fair in MVC2
Daigo is a Legendary sf player. Probably one of the best of all time. However, Justin had play and still plays every fckin fighting game out there being top 5 in major tournaments on most of them. He is the GOD of mvc and also he is the most evo winning player of all times. Daigo is a legend but for me justin is the best fighting game player of all times. Justin IS THE GOAT.
My man Justin being such an iconic boy on FGC since then, no matter if he was who gets parried or not, he's still awesome and knew how to accept it without being salty like other persons could be being part of it and changing the games history, specially FG, beside he's a great player and got a lot of EVO moments by himself, cuz he has 9 wins on EVO, LET'S GO JUSTIIIIIN, iconic on the FGC
You're the chosen one Justin. If i was parried by Daigo, i would be salty 'til this day. Lol, you're the best and hope Harper follow your steps as a competitor
Love the look at the lore! I was around and remember when this happened. The B tournaments were important but it went to another level with Evolution. I started in my regional levels back in 2001 and didn't do well but I enjoyed seeing it evolve to what it is now. The Evo 37 moment is a thing, but the best thing about it is how Justin takes it and makes it work. He could be salty about it, but instead he's a sweetheart about it. And that makes him awesome.
MAS sticks were the goal to have, most definitely! I remember trying to save money from my college job to get a MAS order going. I never did. They were prohibitively expensive and took forever to get, but they were the best things on the market at that time. You had one or a Green Goblin for Dreamcast.
Fun fact: After the Evo 37 moment happened, Justin showed up to a Charlotte, N.C. tournament for MvC2 in 2004. He had a teddy bear backpack and people there were talking mad junk about it, and how he wasn't going to pull up. That was until someone in the crowd who had sense was like "No, it's THE Justin Wong. Like, No. 1 in the world for MvC2 Justin Wong." He proceeded to wash EVERYONE. No more reckless talking that day. People went home crying talking about how they appreciated the privilege of being free for the beating they took. I got washed that day in Alpha 3 but I wasn't talking junk. I knew who I was facing. Continue being the man Justin! We love ya!
Love that story. Thanks for sharing!
such a humble dude
You both (Justin & Daigo) are the pioneers. as in the genesis of competitive fighting games, I've been watching both of your matches along the years and never a dull moment.
Street Fighter II/III/IV/V, MvC2,I and etc on each official CZcams channel.
Keep on living the legacies man, both of you 👁👁👍
Hey Justin, as a casual player this moment got me engaged in fighting games as a young adult. As a old, decrepit adult your modern reaction is what keeps me going as I try to learn something new getting back in after many years. Thanks. That first guy shouting "LET'S GO JUSTIN" was ahead of the game in ways he couldn't imagine.
Justin and Daigo gotta be on the Mt Rushmore of Fighting Games. Saw that video yesterday lol knew something would be popping up about it.
Who are the other 2 that would be up there? Sonicfox and Alex Valle?
That reality show was hilarious. The other players were so scared of Justin. Then they made NYC boy drive a car and it was all over.
You were the bad guy back in the day, im such a big fan nowadays, after seeing ya in action in videos. Keep it going brotha
I follow your channel cos your so down to earth and also open your taste beyond SF. GBY Justin.
Love that you genuinely set yourself up for these parries now for content. You are hilarious, super skilled, and I'm a huge fan, sir.
mad respect for you, justin. the way you capitalize with this is a lesson... you have became my favorite pro player. cheers
You're a winner in life, dude. Many people envy your success. Beautiful family, legion of fans and ungodly skills. Thanks for sharing this story.
I luv this video! You are so an inspiration to us all! thank you justin n daigo for saving the fighting games with evo momemnt 37! every time i see that, it makes me chills
Please talk about the match between you and Daigo in CvS2 where you pull of the clutch alpha counter at the very last second of the match. Out of all the evo moments, this doesn't get talked about enough or at all. One of my favorite FGC moments I've ever seen.
We are fortunate to have Justin be a part of our community. It's great that he is now seen for what he is: kind, open, funny, and massively talented. If there's an FGC pantheon, he is one of its foundational pillars.
You're a legend alive man. I discovered you recently and i just didn't know nothing about after the 37 moment, but man, now i just admire you as much, maybe more, than admire daigo. Because you're a special funny dude with a godlike skill to fighting games who loves to play fighting games. I just love your content and how you plays so well, it's amazing and your personality man.. you're a family guy and play side by your daughter and wife, my goodness it's amazing. Anyway you're incredible man keep fighting. LET'S GO JUSTIN!!
Needless to say, you need to make a Year of the Daigo Parry compilation at the end of the year.
Man, this is the kind of thing that make think, man, if I get the chance to play against Justin, even if I lose, I would be happy to know I got the chance to play against a legend!
Its cool to see how your story has evolved over the years with this moment. You wear it well, its such a great thing to be remembered by even if its you getting bodied.
I love how justin understand emotional that loss, and then can make a laugh off it. Love your videos bro keep it up.
Justin, I only just got into fighting games and that clip was one of the first I got to watch. I never saw you as "losing" or in a negative way.
You rock, dude!
You were part of a moment that created history.
Love from Namibia!
I always loved fighting games as a kid, this moment is the one that got me into the competitive side of it.
I always liked FG, but this moment was the mark to love this genre. Started loving daigo, saw some videos of him so serious but just drinking and playing and till to this day found it very funny, but you mister JUSTIN, I didnt like you at first, but with time I start growing so much care, man you are awesome, so many games you are SO GOOD too, some particular Akuma (UMvC3) comeback was so inspiring that grow as much as Evo 37 on me. My english is bad my guy, and its a year after you posted this video but Justin, I really want to let my mark somewhere that you inspire many people not only by evo37 or sf or even fg in general, you are a good guy. Thank you for everything 'till this day.
I had to go watch EVO 2009 after this. You and Daigo, that was a great match.
Gah-DAMN, Justin! YOU LEGEND!!! I love this so much. Your sportsmanship and great attitude is amazing. 🤩🥰😁
Justin, this is my favorite vid you've done man. Bonus you mentioned my boy Rowell!
Ah a living legend. It always fun to hear your thoughts on the past and the FGC in general
It's great to see Justin embrace this historic moment in esports positively. Justin is a true fighting game legend.
"Damn, they got me drinking a beer" had me laughing so hard I had to pause the video. Haha Loving the channel/content! Been fun to watch it all while falling in love with SF again 🙏🙌👊
Mad respect Lord Wong!. The community is much richer because of you. Hi from Barbados 👋🏽. I loved that you were the only one to defeat that nagoriyuki boss on first try. They better understand who you are, they better recognise.
Before I only knew you from Evo 37 and I think from some MvC tournament, but with this channel you have shown me that you are not just the guy from MvC2 and that you are a nice and cool person ˆˆ
Justin and my mom share the same bday and justin will be turning 37 this yr you gotta turn up bro, that's your lucky number.
Este fue el combate mas épico jamás visto en la historia de la Competición Deportiva de Videojuegos de lucha (Ever Forever). Me alegra haber encontrado tu canal por buscar lo mas épico de las competencias de videojuegos.
Need more of this kind of content Justin.
Justin you're a legend in the game and I hate to sound like I'm slobbin' lol but bro you're a true humble and accomplished legend in the game and all your streaming content clearly reflects how happy you are with the career you carried and how much fun you have currently with playing a myriad of fighting titles and dropping gems, humor, and friendly trash talk. That's true goat status if I've ever seen it. People appreciate your dedication and devotion to the genre.
I'm from Venezuela, and I knew about Justin from the moment 37 video. At that moment I was a Daigo fan, and watching that video blew my mind. but, many years after, I'm here watching Justin every day and rooting for him (and sometimes for his opponents) and the only thing I hate about him now is that he hasn't played KI yet. (just kidding, he's the best)
He played KI in season 1.
@@xOmniCloudx o.o I didn't know that, thanks!
@@xOmniCloudx yup, you're right, but I was referring to the original KI, not the xbox version.
13:55 I don't care if it counts but I totally respect and appreciate the various personal and/or character specific twists on the thing, like the Sean roll ;D
It definitely should count.
It looks like Justin has taken that moment in stride. He respects the parry and Daigo for such a clutch move. Good on him! Wish him all the best
my favorite justin getting rekt moment will always be when he crashed the set driving the car on that gamer house show.
Bro u r still great. Keep doing your work. I like it the way you actually enjoy your game.
Ha I find it mad that you were hated like some east/west rap drama. You cannot help but love your obvious passion and knowledge of these games. And it's like you actively encourage players to be able to recreate a moment that became a training mode goal. It's kinda beautiful.
Thanks for all the great content bro. Would love to see a video of all your most treasured stick/memorabilia that you've accrued over the years coz that stick is FIRE!
Whether you win or lose, however much effort you put into the winning, you can always tell that every video you make is from the heart and is a little piece of you immortalised on the internet forever.
Thank you for making this content and using your legend status to educate and entertain. Win lose or draw you are smashing it, although those losses are some of the funniest stuff I've seen.
I know you read these comments so I hope you get far more universal love than you got back then as you bring a lot of joy to us. Thanks again dude!
This was sick really enjoyed it nice one mr wong
I know you Justin Jerome because you are a fun guy and also a LEGENDARY player, is always a good time to watch you and hang out with you on twitch. Cheers from brazil and I will not teach how to spell my name haha.
What I love Justin letting someone to do the Daigo parry and recreate the Evo moment 37 was it makes the experience what Daigo felt during that moment. The honor to show it and to prove that it was alos possible to do it by his opponent. It was just like a king blessed you with a sword on your shoulders.
I know almost all fighting game players around the wolrd tries to recreate it. We have to do it once in our lifetime. 😂😂😂
They are both Legend. ❤
My favorite part of Justin watching videos of himself is when he agrees with something he said in the video. I find it endlessly endearing
I love the way that this ended for you. You're mentallity is awesome my friend.
Justin it's not crazy your content appears anywhere. You are probably the goat of the NA FGC. I'm not sure if any other player has had so much success across so many different games.
Awesome videos bro I have been a long time fan. Keep the videos coming. Greetings from DAllAS TX :)
Justin did not become perfect legend and I love that. Such an amazing personality and a straight up goat. I fw u forever
@JustinWong Hey man great video, I, along with my friends were in the room when moment 37 happened at Cal Poly Pomona. What a great event and fun day, I had so many fun matches, and met so many cool people. The whole chill casual college campus setting, on the weekend, was great. Better than Vegas imo.
You and Diagonal put on quite a show, you were obviously good enough to put the beat the Beast, within a hair of his life, then… the impossible happened 😮 The room exploded, the yelling was so loud that you could literally feel the vibrations throughout the room. It was crazy!!!
And the gaming world will NEVER forget. Fighting games are fun, and terribly frustrating, but mostly a good experience. Keep up the good work bro!💪🏽💥🙏🏽👍🏽 🎮 😅🕹️ 🇺🇸
I'm a Daigo fan and didn't initially like Justin either, but over the years I got to see what a great/cool guy Justin really is. Now it's Daigo at 1 and Justin at 2. Love watching his content. Especially when he schools younger players at old fighting games (cough cough Smug). Pretty sure Smug was playing sf2 on his channel because of it. Gotta love it. LET'S GO JUSTIN! (Respectfully)
Okay, can someone just make a Justin getting daigo parried compilation video? I'm sure it'll get a 'Kick' out of it.
We will forever cherish that memory. And the sportsmanship, man. It was amazing for the whole FG community worldwide. Thank you, Justin!
Enjoyed the video my guy!
Bro, I've been watching a ton of your content since SF6 came out. I never realized that evo moment was you, haha damn.
I like that you can tell how impressive that parry was regardless of knowing anything about SF3, and after playing it it’s even more impressive
your still a champion in my book.. Lets go justin
Justin's a humble and easy going guy! ✌
justin your are legendary same as daigo umehara. both of you guys are GODS in figthing games.
I played in that room at cal poly when I went to college there!!! They still have a sf4 and sf3 cabinet. The guys back in 2015 had a mvc3 set up too. Good times awesome space
Justin! Thanks for your amazing attitude man! 😇
Lots history just came from that moment from third strike, my personal fav will always be EVO 2009 finals once balrog came out. It was a great final and got me into SF so much that never put it down since lol
A bit late to the party but great video!
And man does it take me back to those good old days, lugging CRTs for tournaments and modding sticks because that was the only way to get those sweet Sanwa buttons, I even learned soldering and how to hack controller PCBs so I could use my stick on multiple consoles.
And then there's the lack of online multiplayer forcing players to travel and actually spend time with other people just to play the game and get some practice. Good times, a bit impractical but good times.
10:32 yup, that's 100% me. I had dabbled in Alpha 3 and other fighting games casually as a kid playing literally any game I could get my hands on, but seeing Third Strike for the first time and not even knowing exactly how the parry works, the clip itself with the crowd reaction was more or less self explanatory and absolutely transcendental as a moment. I more or less overnight became completely obsessed with fighting games and 3s in particular. Like, I literally imported a Japanese PS2 and the game just so I could play it (absolutely zero chance of finding it in an arcade in Sweden back then). Still by far my favorite fighting game to this day.
You are the player i love most, please keep making video.
If it wasn’t for me hyping at this moment the first time i saw it i wouldn’t have gotten into third strike, you are truly a legend and are the reason why i got into fgc as much as i did
I saw you as the villain back then but I see you as a GOAT now. Thanks for the memories. I root for you every time.
A legend and one of my biggest inspiration for playing lame 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️
Your a legend Justin you and daigo and we love watching you play
I've never been a fighting gal, I suck at those games haha, but the evo moment was truly iconic and I admire Justin for being such a good sport.
Awesome story, a rivalry for the ages!
Watching this was entertaining af
I played in an SF4 tournament with you during PAX East multiple years and never made it to semi-finals.
You were allways chill and tried to talk to us East Coasters.
Justin Wong... You're the definition of Good Sportsmanship !!
Ohhh shit been seeing you on my feed recently forgot you're the dude that got the most iconic shmopping of all time after some dude in the crowd yelled DONT DO IT 😂😂
You 2 are the pillars of ESports
MAS sticks are still amazing. I built my first stick buying parts from the MAS warehouse! They were super nice and were really willing to help!
Love the third strike content, this game is bigger than it ever has been
I just wanna say this, but like what other people say without you and daigo. Street fighter would never gotten as big as it is now. Thank you-
Its really interesting to learn about the history of e-sports and your take on it... I was a solid MVC 1 / Marvel Super Heroes player back in the day, I used to play on mame and kaillera. But in UK there wasn't really any scene for this... and now I am too old haha... I will still keep playing SF6 though as I love the series.
