This video covers the full specs on the actual Eclipse from the first "The Fast and The Furious" movie.
We go into detail as to how many copies were built and how each was used. - Zábava
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.
That honda gonna reach moon b4 NASA with those t66 turbos
now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block, and replace the piston rings your fried!
@@Ariztotel 😂
Who the hell would mention "Motec exhaust system" when exhaust systems are not major power adders. You'd think Hollyweird would hire some automotive consultants to help write the script.
@@80s_Boombox_Collector yeah facts but woah buddy chill! No need to get so serious up here...
I’m glad at least one person helping to produce the fast and furious franchise knew about cars
And they barely listened to him
And exactly zero of his input not related to how the cars look made it in. This is worse than Ja-Rule's dialogue.
Lol ik
@@blakethornsbrough1528 MONICA!! LMAO
Furted it smells good. Smell it.
I seriously miss this era of my life.
Same here
where do you find a 26 speed manual gearbox?
hollywood
Lmfao! I'm in tears!
In movies
The 26 speeds are discontinued
I found some 30 speeds gearboxes on craiglist though
This is so bad lmfao I here ya man. Lol !!! Yeah if you watch the movie he only shifts gear 41 times with 41 turbo blow offs and 10 nitro shots at the starting line and then dont forget the random metal plate flying off the car where Dom sits after the race and the blown pistons still holding compression without rings??????? Whatever tho they used and non turbo charged car that has no turbo even installed on it but the engine had a blow off valve zip tied to the cold air intake piping lmao its gets better also like though all of those switches that didnt do anything and many more that have been listed throughout this interview omg how cheesy balls is this movie now that we are all much older now and see the reality of it all now and the way the movie industry is just as good as the media is in hiding the truth!!!!!!! Lmbo!!!
Gotta love studio suit decisions like the one about the manifold warning.
Stupid decisions like that, to appeal to the masses, just ruins art, and makes people dumber. The same thing with The Matrix, when they changed it to people being used as batteries, when the original script, was their brains being used for their processing power, like computers. That made a lot more sense, and would have made the movie even better, but some asshole forced that change, and now it's permanent.
Unless someone remakes these movies, and corrects them.
@@observingrogue7652 I never knew that.. that does seem like a better plot.. as I can't help but think that the amount of energy a human body puts out is much less than what it would consume to keep itself alive.. Lol.. and the fact that they casually mention "this combined with a form of fusion..." Oh so you have fusion do ya.. well why the hell do you need human batteries..
Sigrafix
I learned about that stupid change, from this video.
czcams.com/video/wSVlOAocn8E/video.html
@@observingrogue7652 But people are stupid and don't realise. His suggestions were also pretty lame. Showing an engine warning light or a temp dial going into the red would be the least exciting thing to see and people would probably ignore it. They could have just said "danger to engine" to be fair.
Legend says the RX7 is still in that garage to this day. If you find it, the MotoRex God will grant you 3 wishes.
Michael Vaughan Considering it was later seen at race wars its a bit of a shite legend pal.
Lol
@@jp8422 where?
I just hope one of those wishes isn't mandatory destruction by the US government.
@Andrew Stewart it was lefthand drive though
Spilner: Dude! I almost had you!
Torretto: You never had me. You never had more than 150hp actually......
It always bugged me so much how they couldnt hire someone who knows anything about cars for these movies. Very interesting to know they did and just didnt listen lol
kylem03000 they were like “shut up nerd”
@@Beastobitchio We want SPARKS!
Fire and explosions are what puts butts in theater seats. That's all they cared about.
They only wanted flames, flashing lights and choo choo noises. All WOW factor and zero real factor.
Oh and gear changes, lots and lots of gear changes.
Ive been a huge fan of this car for as long as I can remember. I knew a guy that was big in the import car scene back in the early 2000's and he had one of the original roof scoops made for these cars. (The paper work says there were only 10 made) This part now sits on a shelf in my shop, amazing piece of automotive history.
The eclipse is my first favorite car from the franchise. I remember when I was a 3-4 years old watching the movie on VHS and I hated it when the car blew up. Sweet memories
He said they settled on danger to manifold so it could be a simple phrase non-car people could understand. Yeah...non-car people don't understand that.
what's a manifold?
LOL
Most american car people dont understand shit tho. Spoon engines for drag racing wtf.
@@NicholasCox85 yeah I feel like the temperature going in the red non car people would understand well
Even car people didn't understand it. It didn't make sense that nitrous would damage a manifold. Not at that level, anyway.
non-car people will understand the low gas light lol
Outro with the Crazy Town...man your all nostalgia, thanks for the smile!!
"Danger to Manifold" took 18 years to finally become a real phrase in the car world. Don't believe me? Just look at the Underground Racing Audi R8 at the Pikes Peak 1/2 mile drags last week.
John Freeman seen it 🙈
Most 'non-car people' don't even know what a manifold is, you were right that low oil pressure would have been perfect.
Well obviously it's that thing that fell out of the floor :D
"check engine" or "tps" LOL
they could’ve even put check engine light. everyone who drives knows what that haunting light is lmao
lol, I always wondered how Vin Diesel sat in the Eclipse too without the floorboard. glad it was an actual concern originally.
Craig, thank you for finally setting this straight, been saying it for years...why? Because my best friend and I (rest his soul) met John at a car show down here in San Diego. I recall it having a PlayStation in it since my friend got to talking with John for like over 40 minutes and allowed for him to cross over the rope and fully check it out. He mentioned about being approached for an up and coming film and was planning on ‘meeting’ with folks in the near future about it. Fast forward about a year or so and our group- SoCal DSM was told about extras being needed for a street racing film called “Redline”. I couldn’t make the trip that day for racewars, but my friend did. Several members of our group did go and their cars made a few appearances in the film. Unfortunately the tape that I had filmed that day at the car show was non playable after 20 plus years, was one of the few recording I had of my Bro, but the memories and the movies help🤙🤘
Oh- and yes I did see the blown up eclipse in Vegas.
Don't waste 35Gs on a 150 horsepower replica lol
Still a waste of money but I’d think a replica should have the high horse power engine the movie claimed it had not the mostly stock engine the prop did have.
@@JSchroederee hopefully it would. I remember there was a time after the movie where you had all these civics, Integras, and other small cars. With the pepboys wing lowered with graphics and 5" tips. Making so much unless noise. Then the cops started busting down and slowly most went back to stock appearance but added go instead.
AWD with a newer Lancer Evo setup...
@@enlightenedidiot9552 If anything the AWD ones needed a better trans as I remember many saying they were weak , also early 2nd gens had the crank walk issue
@@CRAPO2011 yeah I was thinking in find a wrecked Evo x and fit the drivetrain in the gsx. That would Surprise people...
The guys screaming “No! MONICA!” Always gets me.
You mean Ja rule?
That’s Edwin right there
Crazy Town - Butterfly was definitely a suitable song at that time. Nice video. Thank you for taking me back to my teen years with this video.
It used to be in the movie, I watched it on tv as a kid they replaced it with deep enough in the scene right after Brian spins out the eclipse. Crazy town was so much better
Enjoying your videos on this movie. I saw it 5x in theaters and it continues to be one of my favorites.
One of my highlights of my life. Being part of this film! 💯
You had the blue eclipse?
Donalddump and the yellow eclipse. 😬👍🏼
@@MisterMemo yellow eclipse?
Only yellow car that was featured in the first movie was a Skyline R33. "Street's closed, pizza boy. Find another way home."
@@idontlikecops1 Yea lol sorry for the late response! Yea I was parked next to hector's car at the street race and next to the white del sol.
Just awesome info, thankyou so so much such an insight i was 16 when the first movie was out watched it 1000+ times lol 😍😍👌👍👍
Great video ending on a great song from the time. Put a huge smile on my face so thank you! I graduated high school in 1996 so when this movie came out I was all in. I saw it I think 9 times in the theater.
Thank you very much. I appreciate this car so much, and is one of my favorites in the series
Very good. Quick and to the point. I like the part about the "danger to manifold" and the plate
This video has ruined my childhood. That is all.
your childhood was a lie. That is all
Yeah, he should of take this to his grave.
Nothing he said was any massive surprise if you've seen behind the scenes footage of films before. Seperate fantasy from reality, and you will always be content :D
hahaha my world started spinning in dramatic slow motion as soon as he said it was an RS. Then it was just a fuggin firing squad as he was going through the details...non-turbo shot to the liver...150 HP, if that, shot to the galbladder....it wasn't a GSX!!?? shot to the beanbag...truly was all show and no go!!?? kill shot. haha. My tuner life was built on a lie damn it!!!
Jiggz is that you nsx
Like the movies, I can watch all of this stuff over & over & over again.
Thank you, Craig! 👍👍🙏
To this day the 2nd Gen eclipse is by far one of my favorite cars ever, I’ve owned 2 at the same time about 10yrs ago, and now about to get another one!!! Love em
My buddy had an AWD turbo eclipse back in the day. It was pretty darn quick, just a couple of suspension mods, good tires and of course a decent intake manifold. 😏

God bless this man for giving us such Iconic cars for some of the best F&F movies
very cool to get this information all these years later. Just discovered the channel a lot of this info you're putting out will be archived first time knowledge
Awesome video, keep it up Craig!
Each stickers is +5hp, the decals is +15hp, so if do the math, this thing is crazy fast.
Imagine if it was painted red with white stripes! That's another 100hp by itself.
man thank you for these vids, you have answered thousands of questions ive been wondering since 2000.
I have to say though. "Danger to the Manifold" gives us comedy gold to last a lifetime, and I still say it with a smile in times of trouble
All show, no go. Representative of the times, indeed.
just like most of the ricers out there.
I prefer it over the stance/camber bullshit thats in nowadays.
NFSMW
Well it was portrayed to be fast in the movie and that's what matters.
I get the "the danger to manifold"...Dom mentions after the 1st race..."I'm surprised you didn't blow the welds on the intake"...they must have installed an intake manifold weld temperature gauge to that eclipse when using NOS...lol!
Thank you for making this video! I’ve always wondered about this car, how many were actually used to make the movie, and how much of what was shown in the movie was actually real. And I always wondered about the danger to manifold seen too lol. So thank you again, this video answered a ton of my questions.
These videos are absolutely great in information and all. Kind of wish it wasn’t so nearly as ”hidden” as it is. I know a lot of people would like to know all this stuff.
The Eclipse has NOS Stickers, before it had NOS installed...
A big pet peeve of mine when a car has an a/m brand sticker yet doesn't have any parts installed of that brand.
Like most tuners of the time 😜
Ricer
It's ok I'm sure we all seen some funnies because of this movie. I've seen GTR mustangs (well before the official GTR came to the states) Vtec maximas, a bodykit made out of house siding. A wood spoiler made of 2x4s and plywood painted really well. A buddy in highschool put a bullet bike exhaust on his Chevy S10 for a day just to be funny and see how it would sound. Needless to say that was a hilarious day.
@@RVCAfan House siding and a wooden spoiler? Jesus I've never wanted to see something so bad so badly.
I had those exact seats in my Civic back in the day, they're probably worth a fortune now.
Mr Anderson sorry kid you are not the wan
It would pull a premium on race day
Sparco Torino🤙
Wow that is some awesome insight into this car. Used to be my dream car when the movie came out.
Love you're videos man keep em coming I always wonder about that white Honda civic
Hey Craig, I really do love the detailed list of the Eclipse and I appreciate every single part of detail you did to make this hard work. I'm actually curious to find the sound engineers for this movie + 2F2F + TFnF: Tokyo Drift to see if they still have their engine sounds so then I can convert them to a game called Street Legal Racing: Redline and Test Drive Unlimited (the power of mods are with this one). Do you know anyone who still has the engine sounds anywhere for the movie's cars?
Always wanted a vid like this👍
came here from doug demuro. Subbed and thank you for sharing your experience
George Barris who bought the interior car is the same guy who acquired James Dean’s Porsche 550 spyder after the crash in which Dean died. It was with Barris the story of the cursed “little bastard” began.
I remember this Eclipse and the one from Need for Speed Underground made me want an Eclipse really bad. You can hardly find any of them anymore.
Really nice video! ✌
Man fucking props for you trying to make the show more realistic. Alas Hollywood cares more about booms and sparks. As a car guy it is hard to look back at these movies but not like they weren't fun.
This is still relevant in 2019 . Glad you mentioned the stupid manifold and sparking alloy etc . Like all your videos . You did a great job regardless
This was and always will be my favorite car of the series. I remember trying to replicate it in Tokyo extreme racer as a kid! Fun fact that game had the trailer for the original fast and furious movie! 😎
SameClothes AsYesterday How do you mean that with the trailer? 🤔
Kev27RS I can’t remember if it was Tokyo extreme 1 or 2 but in the menu it had an option to watch the teaser trailer for the fast and the furious
SameClothes AsYesterday
AHHH...
You mean the option in the menu to watch the teaser of the movie... Yes!
I use to play that game every day when I was a kid
Wished gran turismo 3 had that trailer to but then again it came out like a week after fnf 🤣
Please dont stop making these Videos
Wow awesome vid, thanks for the behind the scenes info
I love these stories, thanks.
Favorite for the era is still the heist civic
What didn't seem genuine to me is those heist civics didn't have clear corner lenses , EVERY modded civic had clear corner lenses in 1999-2000
@@CRAPO2011 but it helped pull the whole look together, better than if they were clear. But that's just my opinion.
Not a huge fan of civics, but those were clean
Those old roof scoops tho, lol 👌Barris was the man, nice old dude.
SO much respect for the truth & backstory. Great vids too. TY.

I had seen this car when I was growing up and several years later, when I turned 16, I found a 95 Eclipse GS. I was so excited to own the same car as Brian! Of course I believed a lot of what I saw in the movie and mistook the Eclipse in the movie as the awd GSX model. I was bummed because by the early to mid 2000s it was very hard to find a good condition 2nd Gen. Eclipse and damn near impossible to find a good condition GSX version. Most were riced out or at least not to the specs/ style I wanted. I loved the car because it came across as attainable, reliable (kinda), and had a slew of parts available for it. The Eclipse is still one of my all time favorite tuner cars.
I personally owned for 4 years a near mint 99 eclipse gs. It looked bone stock minus the typical exhaust and a dark matte grey paint job when i sold it. I had built the block with forged rods and pistons held together with arp head studs and a felpro permatorque head gasket. Bolted on a cheap "god speed/rev9" turbo and manifold. Had a buddy weld me up a down pipe that was fabbed from a cheap 4-1 header(used the downpipe part to clear oil pan and run to my resonated test pipe). Ran mustang GT injectors(believe from a 96) and a 10:1 FMU. Used a cheap AEM wideband and cheap boost gauge to keep an eye on the "important" stuff. Wheels were stock 17inch gsx rims. Inside was all nearly flawless leather black on black. In the hatch was the typical sub and amps built into the floor. Was a fun project that i really liked however my wife hated the car from day 1 and the time i spent working on it made her hate it more. I ended up selling it and buying a mk6 GTi. Wish i never did.
You should do a build breakdown of the Maxima
What was that cable hanging out of the bottom of the Eclipse when Brian rolled into to the first car meet when we met Hector for the first time?
That was the nitrous line.
Nice to know he actually tried to fix the now famous stupid parts. Great video!
The Maxima was my favorite car from the movie. Bad ass story.
Rest in peace John Lapid.
The most hilarious part that gets memed in the car community is danger to manifold. Hahah
non-car people - "I don't get it"
Awesome video keep it up enjoyed Big fan of FATF and big car guy
Thank you for your videos😊
Having an RS myself watching fast and furious gave me hope... but I know deep down that it will never be fast because in the end it's just an RS. Also great outro song
In the story Brians car is turboed with nos. You could literally just turbo the eclipse lmao
$35k?!? Didn't the fed claim "That was an eighty-thousand dollar car, lieutenant.." ?
in the movie it was also portrayed as a completely different "build"
"Not a bad way to spend ten grand" - Dom
When the feds spend money, it always costs them much more than when the private sector buys things.
A car that never seems to be asked about or any information available is lettys Nissan 240sx. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos Craig
Callum Dove, Google ArtNMotion. It was owned by a buddy of RJ DeVera and Craig’s. It was an RB swapped Zenki S14. Near perfect build for the early 2000s. I think Turbo did a story on the car in 1999. But, the info is out there.
Love the vids. Tunner cars, Muscle cars, JDM, European...Barris is his own industry/style before any of it.
Bought by Owner of paradigit in The Netherlands (my old employer) I saw the Supra in the company building back then. He bought a couple of the f&f cars
I own an FN2 Type R and I can't help but realize the rims are exactly the same.
Thinking back there was a replica Eclipse that ran out my area in the early 2000's. Guy drove it that way for years until he got tired of it and painted it dark purple with no graphics. The CF hood came up and smashed the windshield and roof after that and that was probably the last I saw of it.
That's weird. Whenever I make an eclipse in a video game I make it dark purple or like Brian's.
Nice vids. Loved the cars
My friend's parents live in the house that that batmobile was built in. It is in Minnesota and has a garage under the home.
Please do one about 2F2F’s R34 GTR and Evo VII
I have a 1/18 scale model of the Eclipse. I'm so proud of it
I’ve wanted to own a eclipse for my whole life because it introduced me to the tuner scene... now I’m pretty happy with my 300whp awd BMW
I bought a eclipse 2g GSX because of this movie :)
DEY WEY and bone stock a GSX was cooler.
I’m building a replica now! :D. I found one that has the right color paint, blitz body kit, correct wing and CF hood already, but it’s in bad shape and needs some tlc.
Side note, I was pulled over just 2 hours after buying the car and got two tickets.
Reminds me of being back in high school.
Robert Wilson III Can you post videos???
Hey you mentioned your book which includes the eclipse. I just started the video and sure I’ll finish but do you have a link or information on how to get the book? You have nothing in the description
The Stunt 2 Eclipse in Illinois is located at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois. I had the privilege of seeing it and taking some pics after it was displayed at a theater opening in nearby Vernon Hills, IL.
I would like to have the Stunt #1 blowned up Eclipse sitting in my Garage as a display.
Also replicated not because it was a fan favorite and one of the greatest tuners of all time BUT because of who drove it!! The late GREAT PAUL WALKER aka Brian O’Connor, aka Spilner ;)
The music in the video music in the video alone is enough to take me back. lol

Awesome review on the car brother love it.. :D
Great video Craig !! I'm surprised that the eclipse is the most popular car of the franchise.. I would of thought the supra or skyline but then again.. The eclipse started it all !! And damn George Barris.. Every time i see the funked up eclipse, I cringe so bad... OMG 😱 I hope eventually or soon, that you can tell me it's been restored to it's proper look ?
