Thank you for the review, Thomas. VW’s marketing done things right. This is exactly configuration/trim level I would be looking for if I were to buy an ID.4.
Hi Thomas, are you going the review the faceliftet ID.4? In particular the 4motion version? I’m curious to know how the awd-system works as it has same 286ps as the rwd.
The Infotainment system really looks OK now. That looks far snappier than my Golf 8 version of it. HOWEVER... the soft touch buttons need several presses when you have dry fingers! REALLY distracting and frustrating. I have never needed to press those stupid unlit buttons at night. Just press the climate Button instead. I think l they will just get rid of the buttons attsched to the display completely.
I like the looks of the new software, and I wish that I could get… ANY SOFTWARE UPDATE in the US. But, the delightful drive of my ID4 Pro S AWD helps dull the sting of no updates… I don’t love the capacitive buttons on the steering wheel, and the lack of backlight on the sliders under the screen, but I overall I think I’m pretty used to it.
The ID4 4Motion seems to get the same battery as the ID4 GTX, meaning 175kw peak charging (higher peak compared to the ID4 Pro Performance RWD, which uses LG cells in contrast to the CATL? cells in the GTX). I think VW communicated 10-80% in 34 minutes for the GTX, not sure why they now changed to 5-80% SOC specs. 34 minutes 10-80% SOC is industry average, but to utilize higher peak charging rates, you really shouldn't charge the car to 80% SOC on trips...
I wish you could control the screen on the right using the right steering wheel Cluster buttons. Reaching to the screen is just stupid and hit and miss. That is the good thing about bmw idrive.... you can control it even keeping eyes on the road... you just learn the keypresses!
“soft off-roading”? There was no off-roading in the video; those were gravel roads. We live on a gravel road (in the US) and have a Mk7 GTI and an AWD ID.4. Also, I am a stage rally official and use my GTI (with a sump guard) for route checking. The ID.4 has lots of ground clearance compared to the GTI and more than enough for any gravel road. But I avoid using the ID.4 for route checks because getting a puncture would be annoying to deal with.
@@matronix1977 Something happening where a wheel needs to be serviced can happen on gravel or tarmac. Around here, people who work in construction apparently can't keep the nails and other fasteners that they use from falling off their trucks going to and from the work site. We have had to get two nail punctures repaired. But to answer your question, the ID.4 has no spare wheel. What is really annoying is that local tire shops hathe OE tire. Eventually I will get a set of winter wheels and carry one or two as spares when I am driving hard on gravel (like I do with my GTI now). But the weight of the ID.4 is near the limit of the jack that I carry with me, so I need to get a higher capacity one.
What do you think about electric cars kind of failing? I’ve been looking and with uk electric prices moving to nearly 60p per kWh, it is no longer ‘cheap’ to run, basically now zero financial benefit, zero environmental benefits (as uk elec is fossil fuel hence it being so expensive) car is twice as expensive to buy. Surely this is just a massive failure, I’m sticking with my diesel, nothing else makes any financial sense. So what do people think is this just the Sony mini disc in the form of a car? it’s all really falling apart.
It’s hard to forgive VW for how they’ve wasted their chance to launch EVs. Software still below par and the exterior design is too generic across the range. 😢 It’s poor
Vw eu should have just offered the us model as as is and upped the power of the gtx since it’s not gti quality but more importantly the Korean opposition outclass it’s hp figures, as well as charge speeds making them the better option. Vw can do a lot better, and offer the us gray interior for eu . Stop this double standards on models let owners choose if they want leather on there model’s
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. Please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: czcams.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/video.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: czcams.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/video.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex or Desertex or Miriam). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. By ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) %. So it is the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette, even in ventilated options. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: czcams.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/video.html More and more natural materials are rising: czcams.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/video.html or czcams.com/video/yG3z7m6UqNg/video.html Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
I hate those integrated headrest seats. i wish they would stop making them for SUVs. They don't belong there. Also not a fan of the sunroof that does not open. I do prefer the black infotainment instead of the silver surround. But I'll not buy a car with piano black.
Don't buy this car . I am Behzad from Sweden. I bought it on 03/12/2022 and after 2 months on 02/02/2023 My car broke downAfter six months, they couldn't fix it and gave me my money back. Volkswagen has many technical problems. I just bought a Mazda And it is interesting to know that it is much better than this ID4 in terms of driving, technical and technical features.
Thomas, what an unexciting vehicle. These new EV's seem to be looking more and more bland. There are very few very stylish EV's. Porsche Taycan, Audi E-Tron, Lucid Air are ok. The new VW here is boring. Even the new Mercedes EV S Class is hideous.
The gear shifter jumps too easy into neutral when adjusting regeneration. It brakes the car unintentionally which can be dangerous... I love my VW but hate the ID-cars. I am happy VW fired Herbert Diess

Thanks for the shorter run times on these videos. Still great production quality
2023 VW ID.4 Pro 4Motion looks good inside & out ! Slainte' ! Cheers !
Danke, Thomas!
Btw, if this was your personal vehicle, I’d recommend a Waterless Wash spray product before gently wiping the painted surface. 👍🏻😎
Looks like they updated the response of the infotainment. Would you say it's useable vs the earlier versions?
Compared to other popular electric cars the ID4 appears behind in range and performance. It looks nice though.
Nice work. Very grounded review. Prefer the q4 . But can t afford neither
Interesting the euro model kept the armrests. US 2023's changed to a flip-up padded console lid.
That’s really nice looking I would definitely drive on of those
Finally no transmission tunnel. Hope to see much more of those soon
BMW tops VW's battery capacity by having a battery tunnel. 😜

The nearest challenge to this will be the Skoda Enyaq. I'll pick the Enyaq coupe model if price is the same.
When should we expect a Corolla Cross Hybrid review dear @Autogefühl ?

Is there a wheel spare ? Is it easy to change the rims ? What service is required ? Or what you do yourself ? Thanks !

Thomas, what was the games section in the infotainment?
Thomas do you think that VW are missing a trick by not putting the charging port under the VW badge in the front of the car
I think that would be impractical if the batteries are in the middle of the vehicle and the drive is in the back
Best reviewer, good but to expensive car, as all EV,s are.
Cheers Thomas,, 🍻😎👍👍
Currently i agree almost all are super xpensive.
Bravo برافو
How come they can keep chucking out new models while unable to fulfill existing orders?
It lacks some parts they cannot get for the GTX standard?
So this is a way to move some cars and make money because it is the 2nd most expensive ID4.
the presentation of new models cannot be based on the current delivery time, new models are planned and developed over years.
Is the interior better than in the early days? It was so plasticky...
The ID.4 is the best looking EV on the market. Rivian R1T is a close 2nd.
Cookie dough is the best flavored ice cream
best looking EV? it’s the worst looking by far. totally bland commuter car.
Maybe ID Buzz is even better.
