    TRANSCRIPT:
A: We were in his room after the party,
    The lights dim.
A few drinks in and everything was warm,
    and smoothed over.
Then this moment was quickly punctured
With supposedly sweet whispers that felt like barbed wire:
    B: "Trust me,"
    C: "come on,"
    D: "Don't you love me?"
A: His hands pushed me back.
    ALL: WARNING!
    C: It's that time again.
    D: Time for another...
    ALL: "Rape poem".
A: The audience sighs, shifts back in their seats.
B: "Oh boy," you say, "these bitches are about to go off!"
C: Off about "rape" and "pain"
    A: and "no."
    D: I said "no"
    ALL: "he didn't listen"
D: And you ask, why another rape poem?
ALL: Didn't I just hear, like, three of these?
    A: Yes. You probably did.
B: Unsurprising in a country where
someone is sexually assaulted every two minutes.
C: What's surprising is the shit
people get for telling their stories,
They are all lumped into one category-
    ALL: "Rape poem"
D: As if trauma is a trope
    A: Violation a cliche
B: All the while everyone is rolling their eyes and asking
C: Why so many damn rape poems?
D: We wouldn't need so many damn "rape poems" if America had
    ALL: listened the first time.
A: These poems are our prayers
to beat the fucking odds in this country
    of apple pie and roofies.
B: We wouldn't need so many damn rape poems
if our bodies were ours' alone.
C: We wouldn't need so many damn rape poems
if everyone abided by what "no" meant
D: We wouldn't need so many damn rape poems
if Budweiser stopped selling our bodies stretched across a six-pack
A: And maybe we wouldn't need so many damn rape poems if everyone would
    ALL: listen to this one.
B: But it seems to us these lessons are yet to be learned
C: Don't tell me she was sober enough to make a decision.
D: Don't tell me she was asking for it.
B: Don't tell me to pity him for facing consequences.
C: You complain about another "rape poem"
D: But this is all part of a culture.
ALL: The "rape poems" will continue
A: Until I can wear whatever the fuck I want and not be called a slut!
B: Until I can trust my drink to someone at a party when I need to take a piss!
C: Until I can walk alone on dark streets without being catcalled!
    D: "Who's your daddy"
    A: "get back over here"
    B: "Ow ow"
C: "Damn, look at that ass"
D: Until I can wear heels without being asked who I'm trying to impress!
A: Until my voice speaks louder than my outfit!
B: Until I'm not expected to carry pepper spray on my keychain!
    C: Until no really means
    ALL: NO!
    D: Until rape means crime!
    ALL: Until woman means human!
A: The rape poems will continue
until there's no damn material left.

They are talking from the perspective of the woman as the victim. Cat calls? Being afraid of wearing the wrong clothes? These are issues that obviously are attributed to problems women face, not men. So naturally the rapists must either be men or lesbians. Thats why the poem is obviously singling out men (or lesbians) as they don't mention anything which could be taken from a males prospective.
Its a very sexist poem and they don't even have a man up there with them. If guys did the same it would be very sexist, whats with the double standard?

Im getting tired of ppl saying "God bless" as if it actually means something.
If these ladies really did have God's blessings there would be no rape problem.
There would be no rape culture and most of all
The line: "Until woman means human" would have no meaning whatsoever
Because God would have established that men and women are equals..... in GENISIS!!!
But of course not. God did after all create the first woman from the rib of a man.
'Though shall not covet your neighbour's wife.' Why didn't god say anything about coveting your neigbours husband?
Saying "God bless" in a feminist poem is a slap in the face from patriarchy.
God is, after all, the omnipotent father that created a world (and a son) without a wife.

      William Lawrence
first of all William, people generally tend to speak, read, write, from their own way of thinking. "God" in the way you refer to "Him" also gave people the right to free choice. And we, women, men, trans-folk of whatever variety, the multi-genderd. Regardless of your view of God. And while "God the Father" created a (and it's interesting you don't say "the") and "a" son, without a wife, take a closer look. Genesis. God made man in His own image, male and female created He them. And while God created a "son" without a wife, He did not do so without a woman. God the father chose Mother Mary to carry and birth God the Son. She, along with his earthly Tfather raised Him, loved him, cared for and protected him. So, if Mother Mary were not God the father's wife, was He committing adultery, Or was Mother Mary raped in her teanage years by God the Father, or the "Heavenly ghost, or whatnot.
I hope that as you get older you learn to think and understand that there are many ways of thinking of things. Not a right way and everything else is wrong.. Good luck to you. ---Truth Speaks

The police did not believe me because I have a penis. I wasn't crying because I did nothing wrong and the police will not believe me. Being defensive means that you are trying.
False rape allegations is a crime, and only 1% of all false rape allegations will ever spend a day in jail.
      See how that works?
That being said, I'd like your citations on the 1% assertion because I'm gonna go ahead and throw the bullshit flag out on to the field.
Do you know why few of those accused of rape are found guilty? Because it is a hard crime to prosecute if the prosecution doesn't have evidence. To be found guilty of a crime is to be found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. "He said, she said" is nothing but hearsay and not beyond a reasonable doubt. It is up to the accuser and the prosecution to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused did what they said actually happened.

Okay let me just address something. This poem, in no way, shape, or form, is going to stop rapists from raping or bad people in general from being bad. Everybody can fucking agree on that.
But that's not what the poem is about. It's about raising awareness and improving education about rape and consent. We would all love to change the rapists and stop them from raping, but we all know that this is pretty much impossible. What we can do is stuff like this, which, if successful in raising awareness, will keep people in the future from becoming rapists in the first place.
If we can't get rid of all the rapists out there in the world today, the least we can do is try and keep more form being created.

rape doesn't mean that terrorism, world hunger and poverty, animal cruelty and child abuse, or generation of technology-absorbed kids who cuss aren't bad or doesn't exist; they're all important and underestimated. there is only so much you can say though, and this covers part of it, what they believe needs to be brought up more often so we can make some changes, starting small and focusing on this and only this. so stop bringing other topics up like it's superior to rape.

for those that say that these women need to be sexually assualted to talk about rape and harassment, they're probably talking about their own experiences of being hit on or being cornered along with other's stories too, and if they haven't, does it matter? rape is wrong, they shouldn't ever have to go through something like that to raise awareness or to speak up against verbally and physically disrespecting a women's body. & yes, men get raped, but that should be it's own statement. you shouldn't say it like that lowers the consequences of raping women or how traumatizing it is.

That's actually incorrect. Men are raped more than women. The original definition of "rape culture" referred to prision rape. In prison, rape is normalized and there is no punishment. Nowadays, women have distorted the term to make it about themselves. Typical! Men in prison are more likely to be raped than a free woman is to be raped anywhere else.

People don’t ‘make it about themselves’, that comment is absolutely and *utterly disgusting*. You should be ashamed of yourself, honestly I’m disgusted just looking at that! Calling it ‘typical’, and saying they make it about themselves- every single rape survivor had this *happen* to them! It is *trauma*, it is *rape*, and it *is* about themselves. It is about every single rape survivor out there, male, female, gender-fluid, gender-neutral- their gender doesn’t *matter*! Nor does their colour, their race, their fashion sense, their personality, their sense of self-worth, how many friends they have or how much family they have- *none* of it matters. What matters is that they got *raped*, and it is trauma, and people don’t *make it about themselves*. Because it happened, and it is therapeutic, and *okay* to share their stories, because that helps the healing process and overall people like you *dISGUST ME!*

God, these fucking comments are ridiculous. Instead of looking at this as a way to teach our future generations, ALL GENDERS, right from wrong and no means no, you say shit like "dumb girls, this isn't going to stop rape" "the world isn't going to change" how fucking sad is that? why not be the fucking change? Teach our children so they don't make the same mistakes as our generation and those before. Instead you are weak and selfish. No one said this would end rape, but it does spread awareness of the topic. No one said this was only about women, you all just WANT something to find wrong with this. As I see it, anyone of any gender can may be able to relate. No, this piece wont end rape alone, but if people actually gave a shit and lent a hand to help raise awareness and protect our people, we could help so many. But of course, in our ignorant and individualist society, no one actually wants to solve the problem. Instead, they come to youtube videos meant to have a positive purpose and complain and argue about things that don't matter. If you all are so concerned with men that are raped (which I am NOT saying is anyless legitimate than a woman being raped, because I believe rape is rape regardless of gender) why not create a campaign in regards to that?? instead of complaining about it, do something about it.

    • @brrrrrrrrino
      @brrrrrrrrino Před 7 lety +6

+BetterThanJesus2 If we can teach our children right from wrong, that alone can help lower the statistics. There are people who are uneducated on the subject of sexual assault...like they don't know what it is and what actions equal sexual assault. so they may engage in these actions or let these actions happen to them because they didn't know it was wrong. this is something I believe starts in adolescence...if no one ever teaches a child it's wrong to touch someone inappropriately, or say something racist, or to steal something, whatever the situation, then how would that child know not to do it? Yes there are people who are lost causes, sociopaths, psychopaths, whoever..but we should still try. Why does that bother people so much? I mean, a lot of people have their minds set in stone, but I'm talking about future generations. This is honestly something that bothers the shit out of me. Sexual assault is something I have dealt with and I really want help educate people so others dont have to go through the same ordeal. I don't care if you think this is cringey..it impacts a lot of people. Obviously it's not going to stop rape, like I said..but I do know of people who have had change of heart or have become more active in advocating against problems like this, because of pieces such as this. Not all feminists are crazy nazi fems. I'm not sure why people generalize feminists, true feminists believe in equality and justice for all...they aren't just crazed man haters (though I'm totally aware that their ARE some chicks calling themselves feminists but totally contradicting the meaning of feminism) still, people dont get it. love seeing all these hate comments from primarily cis men feeling threatened by empowered women.
    amazing performance girls!!
    -
EDIT 1 (for people who clearly can’t read or don’t speak english):
i said it was PRIMARILY straight men hating on girls expressing common traumatic experiences through poetry; not that ONLY straight men were hating on them.
EDIT 2: i posted this comment 4 years ago and although my views have changed greatly because i now believe third wave feminism perpetuates men-hating attitudes that i don’t support, i still believe in equality for the sexes and NOT supremacy of females. i am not a feminist, just a decent human being who believes there are many gender related issues on both sides that need to be addressed, some of them overlapping. i think many issues that affect men are not taken seriously due to toxic masculinity and society viewing men as expendable; not okay. when i originally wrote this, i saw a lot of the comments belittling these girls poetry coming from straight, cis men. i don’t know why this is the case, but at the time (4 years ago) i chalked it up to that demographic feeling threatened. perhaps it’s something else entirely, maybe wanting more exposure on the issues men face in society that are equally as gripping and traumatic.
as such, i think there should be more discourse on this topic and empowering men on the same level rather than tearing each other down.
let’s all be decent human beings today :)

Now I don't know you from Eve, so I really don't know your whole mental and social engineered mindset, nor your awareness by age and experience.
What am I to be threatened with??
Please share what a woman brings to the party in the consumer culture of the Western World? Funny but I actually have more money not having a woman then I do when sharing the so called burdens.
My mother comes from a much different time. She has no love of the modern Feminism. As a matter of fact she comes from before most of the modern conveniences of the Woman Patriarchal enslavement to the kitchen barefoot and pregnant. No, my mother was in the wave that found out they "HAD" to go to work because prices started going up. She had to go work for another system to support her Family as well. So really, I was the one loading a dishwasher that you had to attach correctly to a sink adapter, doing the dishes just like many child slaves before myself. Perhaps it was my childhood abuse of having to be the remote control and T.V. Tuner before Solid State and remote controls.
Whatever it was it made me self sufficient and my mother taught me how to cook because I had better know how to cook for myself. I only had one relationship where I didn't do the cooking, because she could cook better then me and she was from New Zealand.
I was responding to the "How I am not Threatened" by so called empowered woman.
How am i a Hate filled male? I just don't desire female companionship anymore with all of it's catch 22's. I don't desire going to Las Vegas and gambling at those odds either, and that is the modern marriage equivalent.
I don't see from my age bracket and awareness through experience what a woman brings to the party after the Family isn't an option anymore.
I also don't see why showing my nephews the tactics women use to screw with men is a no no. I would think it would help lower those so called rape statistics when a man is prepared to see these what types of women are lurking in the depths of the sea, so to say.
Certainly I am not going to stand by and let them just become useful tools and stepping stones.

They preach “Equal pay, Equal opportunity, Equality for all” but they don’t practice that it’s only “women need more pay” and in reality women do get more opportunities then men in fields of work like STEM just like blacks, gays, and Hispanics do because a business owner would much rather like to improve his rep by getting more minorities rather than another straight white man. Also women do have equal rights and are quite frankly treated better then men. We need real feminism not just a glorified hate crime

Hammerhead547 at 16, the other lifeguard at the camp where I worked pinned me to the pool house floor, pulled my bathing suit aside and raped me on the concrete. Tossed me a pack of Plan B over breakfast. He had a case in his room. He got a grand total of 17 of us over the summer (2 consensually). That's over half the 16-21 female population of the camp felled to one guy. 1/2. Add in the campers and cooks, some of whom had their own shit that equalises to 1/3-1/4.

HoneyFen there is a huge difference in tone between an encouraging "Come on, you can do it!" And "Come on, this is bullshit". If you don't have the human capacity to tell the difference, the men in the background of this poem were displaying the non-helpful, non-encouraging one. You can differentiate by how long and whinily they've hold out the vowels, and by how bitchy and offended they sound.

These poems, while some may say that they are useless and are just women blowing their own horns and do nothing for our society, actually raise awareness. They give a face to this crime, they show people that rape doesn't always mean the same thing, and that its okay to talk about it.
If you don't like listening to this poem, or poems on rape or similar topics my advice is: DON'T. Move on. We don't need your negativity.

feminism is "the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes." there is nothing in there about hating men
at the same time you can recognize male problems without trivializing the problems of women
you can recognize that 1/6 women are raped whilst also recognizing that men are taught to be emotionless beasts
the truth is we are all human and we need to work together to end these injustices
