- The world that emerged from the collapse was an untamed and treacherous place. It was at once magnificent and bleak, simple and complex. It was a world made for a being like Cayde-6.
In Dossier, the Templin Institute investigates the legendary figures from alternate worlds.

"Thereâs nothing about the Taken I like. Cabal, good tactics. Hive, great architecture. Fallen are fantastic joke-tellers and Vex can make decent hat racks. The Taken? All they do is spread the blight and try to kill you." - Cayde-6
Shit ainât been the same since cayde died
I feel a bit about that Fallen part , since heâs had a good Eliksni friend once . She (or he) couldâve been the early âMithraxâ , too bad .
Now I'm imagining Cayde trying to put a hat on a Vex, and I'm here for it
Just a note: Uldren Sov wasn't a "traitor guardian", he was the Prince of the Awoken, and the Reef. He wasn't a Guardian when he killed Cayde-6. Ironically, his corpse was later resurrected by a ghost and became the individual we now know as Crow, a Hunter just like Cayde.
Isn't he also the new hunter vanguard by right as well
Also, uldren didn't orchestrate the break out. Variks did, to break out Eramis the Shipstealer.
So this is what I sound like when I talk about Star Wars with my family
@@ghostofwolfmoonmani3877 yes... Cayde's dare makes any hunter that kills him the Hunter Vanguard. problematic as Uldren was not a hunter or a Guardian at the time but Crow is being groomed for the position by us, Zavala, and Ikora.
@@ghostofwolfmoonmani3877 He isn't explicitly at the moment but it's shaping up to be that way
Cayde died doing what a guardian does best. Fighting the good fight, holding the line. We all miss you Cayde
Nothing, embodies this more than Cayde 'riding' the debris in to the bowels of the the prison. Its the most 'Cayde' thing. Period.
Hey... When do you think a person dies? When a bullet from a pistol pierces his heart? No... When he's attacked by an incurable disease? No... When he eats a deadly poisonous mushroom soup? No! A man dies when people forget him!" - Dr. Hiriluk
Actually what a guardian does best is get killed in a comical fashion doing something stupid because their ressurective immortality has erased their sense of self preservation.
@@seekingabsolution1907 ok Ghaul. "You're not brave, you have merely forgotten the fear of death."
but he was wrong. Many lightless Guardians charged into the Last City and reclaimed it from the Red Legion.
For cayde âđŸ
Cayde-6: "I'll be out here, don't feel bad for me. Go out there and have fun, have adventures, and do something meaningful with your life." "I'm starting to miss the little guy." "I should have gone myself, THIS is on me."
*"Every story has it's end, this one's mine"* - Cayde 6
"Anyone want a hug? Hugs? No hugs..." Cayde-6 during the Red War
Cayde's final moments.
Uldren : "Any last words?"
Cadye 6: "How's your sister?"
Couldn't even look him in the eye when pulling the trigger. That's how bad Cayde roasted him.
*looks at Ace, sighs*
Thank you guys. Cayde deserves to be remembered.
*6- shot Golden gun salute*
Cayde 6 is to Destiny as what Sergeant Johnson is to Halo.
Cayde's death was a pivotal turning point for Destiny 2, the community was clammorring for a darker story to be told where for once something was taken that could never be given back....... and on that E3 presentation stream the Monkey's Paw curled it's finger and they got their wish...... in the worse possible way. The life of the party and the Vanguard was snuffed out and upon entering the tower the triumphant music was replaced with a hollow and somber dirge. But in that moment, sorrow, turned to rage, and like the tale of Randall Clark, the Father of Zion, Every player set forth to hunt down each and every one of those that took Cayde from them, and struck them down with violent retribution and the very Wrath of the Light. Caude was lost..... but he was also avenged. And he still remains one of the best damn hunters the Vanguard ever had
Cayde-6: "I'm hilarious and you will quote everything I say."
I never knew you Cayde, I became a Guardian some time after you died, nothing made sense to me, but your story guided me. I am now forging my own story, I know from somewhere, you are watching and happy knowing that we will continue to fight the good fight.
Well said, new light.
"He was often seen as laid-back, carefree, and especially bored with his Duties as Vanguard."
A lot of Guardians can act that way, actually.
Rip cayde-6 the best character for that era of destiny 2
Also uldren was not a Guardian at the moment when he kill cayde that happened after the end of the forsaken campaign
and taniks is not a warlord he's a mercenary.
@@jsinghgjsinghg5322 Even though calling Taniks a Warlord isnt correct, it sounds a lot more badass then just Mercenary. You gotta admit lol
PLUS, considering he joined the Dark Council he kinda did become a Warlord.
I'm starting to think Templin has been secretly playing Destiny 2
As a hunter I raise a glass in memory to the best hunter we ever had and a fine friend. To you Cayde-6 you magnificent bastard.
Great video, though it seems that you made a mistake in reference to Caydeâs death to Uldren, whom you referred to as the âtraitor guardianâ - Uldren Sov (at the time of killing Cayde-6) was the prince of the Awoken, he became a guardian some time after being killed by the player.
I was looking to see if anyone would mention this before I went ham in the comments lol. Yea I was like, ummm he was not killed by a guardian.
Same, gonna bump this for accuracy
@@giovannilora950 same
I said the same thing. Seems like a bit of a glaring oversight.
Good points. But it could have been Petra.
I knew of Nathan Fillion before I learned he voiced Cayde. I knew of him from the TV show Castle. Fillion was the absolutely perfect choice to voice Cayde
Fillion is the absolutely perfect choice for like every single role he plays. Man's a fucking legend.
"I knew of him from the TV show Castle."
...and....?
To me, he'll always be Captain Mal Reynolds of the independent starship Serenity
Just wait until you discover Firefly đ
@@SRTifiable And all the wonderful quotable lines
*Uldren Sov wasn't a traitorous Guardian, he wasn't even a Guardian. He was the brother of Mara Sov, Queen of the Reef. He broke into the Prison of Elders to free his comrades and inevitably killed Cayde-6, who was going there to stop the escapees.
When Cayde-6 died, Uldren Sov was still a mortal Awoken as well.
Actually, Uldren Sov was interned in one of the prisons stasis pods, its because of Variks the Loyal who had disabled the prisons security systems that Uldren and the Barons could escape.
Minor correction, Uldren Sov, the awoken prince, was NOT a traitor guardian YET. Awoken royalty yes, but lightless at this specific mention.
âHey take me with you, I hate this jobâ
Great Video! I vote the Cabal Empire next!
Remember they currently have 4 Factions: Scout Cabal Legions, seen in D1, loyal to Calus, killed off by the Red Legion in D2.
Caiatl's Ascendancy (Absorbed the Red Legion)
Calus's Loyalists (Later upgraded into the Dark Legion)
and the Legionless Deserters. Pirates now working with the Fallen.
I miss that space gunslinger. I came into Destiny just as Cayde was on his way out, and he's always been one of my favourite aspects of the game. It felt like Destiny took a darker, more serious tone after his death. Not that it was an epic of comedy beforehand, but Cayde had a way of lightening even the darkest moments with the right kind of humour.
I hope they bring him back someday, even if it's for the grand finale or something.
I love that y'all started covering Destiny and Destiny 2
I never actually played destiny 1 so I only know Cayde from his role in destiny 2, but I miss our boy. Rock and Stone, Cayde.
He's joined Karl in the halls of heroes
@@Nomadith For Karl! For Cayde!
3:56 When a Hunter dones the cloak of a fallen fellow Hunter, that is more than a gesture of respect. It is the most solem oath a Hunter can take. The promise to take over the fallen comrade's quest or burden.
And while Andal Brask's cloak is not passed on to Hunter players who played the Forsaken campaign, I as a Hunter main have ever since worn the Memory of Cayde cloak as the closest substitue available.
A correction: 4:56 "Traitor Guardian" is wrong. Uldren Sov was no guardian.
He only became a guardian AFTER being killed by us and Petra Venj at the end of the Forsaken campaign in retaliation for Cayde-6's murder and the havoc he and his misbegotten Zombie-Fallen had wrought on the Reef and its Awoken inhabitants.
Still have the Ramen ticket, expired hundreds of years ago. In the vault, canât get ride of it That alone defines the hunters known as Cayde-6. Rest well my friends the adventures keep coming.
"Hey... When do you think a person dies? When a bullet from a pistol pierces his heart? No... When he's attacked by an incurable disease? No... When he eats a deadly poisonous mushroom soup? No! A man dies when people forget him!" - Dr. Hiriluk
This brought a tear to my eye. Take solace Cayde that the Ace of Spades is in good hands, killing a lot of bad guys.
He's been dead for so long that he's now been dead longer than he was alive. RIP Cayde
Heâs still out there. Solving space crimes, doing homework and listening to _Wait Wait Donât Tell Me._
Good video! Two minor things: 1) Uldren Sov wasn't a Guardian when he killed Cayde, he was the Awoken Prince. He became a Guardian later and is now known as Crow.
2) Not a correction, more just an added detail- Exos need to be reset because of the disassociation between a human mind and a robot body. The human mind rejects the robot body, and this rejection grows worse over time, eventually causing insanity and suicide. Being 'reset' is the only known way to combat this disassociation, essentially resetting it back to baseline but costing some of the Exos memories as part of the process. How long an individual exo needs to go between resets in order to stave off disassociation varies between individuals.
It's still incredibly unfortunate that Nathan Fillion couldn't be there to voice one of his best characters for his own final moments. Cayde was always one of my favorite characters in Destiny, and honestly just one of my favorite game characters in general.
He has been Roland, Beowulf, Achilles, Gilgamesh. He has been called a hundred names, and will be called a thousand more before the world goes dim and cold.
He is Hero.
He was certainly a man of action when action was required. When Oryx cane to Sol, he spearheaded the plan to take him down. When the Red Legion invaded, he got busy with to get payback. When the Awoken needed help securing a prison holding the nastiest prisoners, he stood against them like the sheriff outlaw we love. He would be proud at how much inspiration we took from him.
I miss Cayde. Fantastic character, and always great for a laugh.
I am glad Destiny is starting to get more attention, very nice! Also, miss you Cayde!
"Traitor Guardian Uldren Sov"
Seems like someone didn't play Forsaken.
I think âtraitor-turned-guardianâ mightâve been the intended line there but yeah a bit of a whoopsie
Glad to see you covering destiny. It's got a lot of good lore and I'm looking forward to it being covered in your style.
Just a small correction, though. Uldren Sov was a Guardian when he killed Cayde-6, at least not yet. Prior to the ending of Forsaken, Uldren was the Prince of the Awoken. It's only after he died that he got resurrected as a Guardian, reborn as Crow
Cayde-6, the most Chaotic Good character I've ever seen
My Ghost found me (as Lavitts-4) around when the Taken were first starting trouble, so I got a lotta memories of Cayde. He wasn't my vanguard, I answer to Ikora, but I think that worked best for both of us. Cayde never saw himself as "in charge" of people, and that lack of authority gave him a fitting Cool Uncle vibe. He didn't need it either. I'd follow him just to see what impossible stunt he had in mind. And stay because he'd pull it off. Now I'm a 6 myself and . . . I wish I could hear what joke he'd crack at how that lines up. It'd be damn clever.
I saw a post yesterday stating that as of now, Cayde-6 has been dead longer than heâs been alive since Destiny came out. I feel as though this is not a coincidence for The Templin Institute.
Cayde-6 is my favorite Destiny character, bar none. Excellent video!
Cayde-6's death genuinely made me cry the first time I read about it. Rest in peace, king.
I heard that in another life Cayde-6 was called Malcolm Reynolds and in another he was called Edward Buck.
Our dearly departed and still missed friend. đ
It's a matter of speculation tho whether the man that was once Cayde truly had a wife and child. He LIKED the idea that he might've had a family because if only it meant he had been once a man and capable of being a decent human, not merely a Darkness-spawned war machine.
BTW, TWO Destiny vids in less than a week? I dunno what's going on but I like it!
I was one of those people early enough on the hype train that I was able to grab myself a seat and enjoy the ride during itâs development. I got off at the same station that Joe Staten did after being as gutted as the gameâs narrative was. That was such a huge disappointment for me, as it made it stand apart from everything else.
Now before the [somewhat inevitable] pile-on, I know that despite that happening amongst a number of other badly handled employee issues etc (also: Paul McCartneyâŠwtf? Really?!?) it would go on to be a huge success and become the new gold standard for online mmoâs. I acknowledge that, and Iâve even had fun in the game myself here and there - but I canât help but feel bitter about what could have been.
Anyway, all of that aside, Cayde-6⊠how could anyone not love this badass? (Again, one wonders what they could have done with Cayde-6 had they stuck to the original roadmap for the game, but stillâŠ) all of this basically to say that despite my personal gripes with *Destiny,* it says a lot about the strength of what remains that Cayde-6 is so beloved by so many.
*L E G E N D A R Y*
We miss you buddy!
Another wonderful Destiny video. Been enjoying them so much lately! Keep it up!!!
*Whisper* "Hey take me with you, I hate this job."
Ah Cayde-6, in my book a honorary Titan on top of being a damn fine hunter.
If only you could be here, with us, and see whats happening with all this darkness. Iâll never forget you Cayde.
4:55
Prince of the Awoken, not a guardian. Yet.
Also, side note, I like how you included the line about Cayde's death being an end of an era, because regardless of the initial intent it in some way was, as that's when the series of expansions we have now started to release and others were vaulted.
There will be A TON OF LOOT!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO
And yes..he was magnificent...and inspiring...thank you tin man...for having a bigger heart than most of us !
Correction: Uldren Sov was a traitor prince of the Awoken, not a Lightbearer, not until sometime after his death at the hand of the Young Wolf.
Uldren Sov was heir apparent of the Awoken at the time of Cayde's death. He wasn't a Guardian until after the death of Riven and the events of Season of the Hunt

Cayde-6. The Patron Saint of Lost Causes
For the loot!
Cayde was way too well written then what game would have ever needed. I'm not complaining, well too much. I still miss him, I don't think it's normal for a game to make me understand what I had when it was gone.
Vanguard dare armor set w/ lucky pants and Ace of Spades. The only way to dress up as a hunter with transmog.
New lights won't even know who he is now that they've removed forsaken.
The guardian with the mouth, he was the Deadpool of the Destiny franchise.
Uldren Sov was not a guardian at the time of the prison break in the prison of elders. He was however the Awoken prince of the Reef.
Omg I thought the space military I used to serve did that. My memories show this is my second life. I am literrally waiting until I am needed again. My other life is haunting me.
In my other life I was married but it was cut short due to an attack. I am trying to cope yet remembering what happened.
As others mentioned: Uldren Sov wasn't a Guardian, he was a mortal Awoken when he killed Cayde-6 and was only later resurrected as a Guardian called Crow.
To the one and only Cayde-6! Sound off Guardians!
R.I.P Cayde-6. You will be forever missed. đ
He was and still is the BEST hunter of all the Guardians
4:50 "a traitor gaurdian uldren sov" EXCUSE ME HE WAS NOT A GAURDIAN AT THAT TIME!
We miss you Cayde...
I never wouldâve taken the gamble if I knew it would come at the cost of Cayde
The best
Yes more destiny lore please! It has the war hammer in depth lore with the game play of halo. Do it!
Everybody else: Friend?.
Me: Sure, whatever.
Cayde 6: Friend?.
My Titan: *Name a target and it will die.*
I'm going to need some tissues again...
Game wasn't the same after we lost him.
4:57 he wasnât a guardian/light bearer at that point. He was the Prince of the Awoken and was badly coping with the loss of his sister, to the point that he got corrupted by a wishing dragon.
I donât know why he made the scornâŠexperiment? Footsoldiers for the reef? Idk.
Anyways either the player character or Sideshave McOneeye took him out (in my head cannon it was my guy who did it) he was then resurrected by a ghost, making a new person, Crow who was a light bearer/guardian.
If it didnât mess with the Human, Awoken and Exo structure of the vanguard, Iâd bet he was going to be the new hunter Vanguard, but if they do stick with that structure, I imagine theyâll bring back Shiro-4 from the Rise of iron stuff.
