- Never seen footage I shot in 2003 while at SXSW with my band Halfway To Gone. 3 and a half songs of Mastodon's crushing set at the Relapse Records showcase now with mono audio in both left and right channels to replace the previous version with left channel audio only. Apologies for the false starts!! And thanks to Frank Bellina for help with the audio problem.

I still rember hearing oblivion for the first time on the roadrunner tv music channel.
I had heard blood & thunder years prior and was to young to be interested, decade later I now have a mastodon tattoo 😂

When I shot the video I had never seen or heard them, but what really blew my mind was that Brann apparently remembered me and my brother from some earlier band he was in that played a show with our old band in Long Branch, NJ. I was completely unaware we had ever been in the same place before, but he knew the exact show and remembered name of our band at the time too. WTAF? indeed!
Saw Mastodon on their first 4 album tours..

I ran into them at a handful of these festival gigs until they did the Clutch tour in 2004 which was the last time I touched base with them just before they went in to record Leviathan. Didn't see them again for quite a few tours.

Yup. The mastodon guitarists today look like the dads of the guitarists in this vid. The mastodon drummer today looks like the dude playing drums in this vid. Lol
Seriously. I was friends with Steve Austin of today is the day when brann and Bill were in the band and he looked the same back then. Thats was in 1999. Although Bill pretty much looked the same as well. If you havent heard the album they play on In the eyes of God then do yourself a favor and listen to it. Bill plays bass.

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough battery life in that old viewcam to get BBTS. I had already shot some of ATP and Bongzilla before Mastodon and other random stuff.
By my estimation they’re a bit older now
I "estimate" they'd be exactly 20 years older since this was shot at SXSW in March 2003 which was almost exactly 20 years ago.
